Yield: 10000 kg of grapes per hectar – after which the grapes are dried “appassimento”

Prestigious wine obtained by an ancient technique known in Veneto Region as “Ripasso” This technique consists of giving more body and character to Valpolicella Superiore wine by running it over the residue of the dried out grapes used in the production of Amarone and Recioto.

Winery: Accordini

The Accordini Winery

The Accordini Winery is settled in the heart of the classic Valpolicella, Pedemonte. The estate is approximately 25 hectares in Negrar. The Accordini Winery focuses on three varietals: Corvina,  Rossignola, Rondinella, Corvinoni, Garganega. The focus is the Ripassa style and Corvina grape, where Accordini dominates.

Guido Accordini, the family’s third generation winemaker, wanted to make the winery a leader in high quality wines production. Guido’s father  built a new cellar for this high quality production. Here the most famous “Amarone” was made.

"A tiny Amarone producer of impeccable quality; the Le Bessole bottling has traditional spice, earth notes, and deep fruit; the Riserva is tannic; most of the wines offer elegance and food-friendly acidity."

- Anthony Dias Blue's pocket guide to wine 2006

Review:

"Charred, earthy black-fruit aromas are smoky and power-packed. This feels full yet balanced, with freshness and strong tannins. Ripe berry, prune and oak-spice flavors finish with a note of vanilla and length. For a Crianza from a tough vintage, this is commendable."

The Bryson Barrel Select Red 2010

Philosophy

Our limited release wine is created from the fusion of two exceptional parcels of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. This classic blend is matured in the finest oak crafting an intriguing unison that captures the essence of our vineyard and highlights its unique varietal expression.

Our Vineyards

“Our family vineyard is located in the picturesque and historic Padthaway valley, 300 km south of Adelaide. Our rich, fertile terra rosa soils, environmentally friendly viticulture, low yield and exceptional fruit is how we consistently produce outstanding wines. Small parcels of the highest quality fruit are selected from our family vineyard and handcrafted to create wines with amazing depth of flavour, style and balance…” David Bryson

Winemaking Notes

Made with the greatest dedication and care, select parcels were matured in new and seasoned French and American oak for up to 20 months prior to being selected for this blend. Individual barrels from our family estate that best demonstrate the intensity of our fruit, balanced by integrated oak were selected for the final blend, which was then bottled with minimal filtration.

Vintage Overview

It started out full bore with the usual warm February weather. All our grape varieties started to ripen at the same time making it one of our most compact vintages to date. Vine-balance was carefully monitored, resulting in fruit that demonstrate the vibrancy and fruit-derived characters that we strive for in our wines.

Tasting Notes

Deep inky purple in colour. Aromas of blackberry, mocha, mint and spices. Lush, ripe palate dominated by black fruits, cherry and chocolate. An expansive palate with black fruits and nicely balanced by oak.

Xavier Vignon Vacqueyras 2012

Tasting Notes:   Purple and ruby notes. Fine and silky nose with subtle notes of raspberry, liquorice and vanilla. Great structure, flexible and round tannins, pleasant smooth, long finish.

Review:

Possessing slightly more texture and depth than the Gigondas, the 2012 Vacqueyras is another wine from this team that shows it terroir beautifully. Ripe, upfront, medium to full-bodied and voluptuous, it gives up beautiful dark berry fruit, violets, licorice and herbs on the nose. It too should drink beautifully over the coming 7-8 years.

This is another impressive lineup from oenolgist Xavier Vignon, who works with the likes of Raymond Usseglio, Le Nerthe, Marcoux and Grand Veneur, to name a few. These are all negociant wines, but they obviously have access to some serious vineyard, and the winemaking is impeccable. Looking at these latest releases, his 2013s buck the vintage stereotype with their ripe, textured profiles, and his 2012s are certainly up with some of the top wines of the vintage as well. In addition, prices remain more than reasonable here. If you haven’t yet discovered these wines, now is a great time. As a side note, I’m halfway through a case of his 2007 Châteauneuf du Pape, with every wine showing brilliantly. These can drink nicely in their youth, yet age beautifully as well. - Wine Advocate 91 Points
