Klinker Brick 1850 Red Blend 2013
1850° is a unique Lodi red wine blend designed by our winemaker and is comprised of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Petite Sirah and 10%
Old Vine Zinfandel. With aromatics of black currant, raspberry, red licorice, eucalyptus with just a hint of black pepper, the wine has an
enticing aroma. On the palate, dense layers of raspberries and stone fruit are coupled with cinnamon and spice. 1850°, is the temperature at
which a Klinker Brick is fired.

Protest Red Blend 2014

Protest Red Blend  2014 is made from 89% Syrah, 7% Malbec, 4% Zinfandel.

This is a Sonoma Valley Red blend wine aged in craft Rye Whisky barrels. The Protest is a dedication and an attitude.

The Rye whiskey aromas are uniquely subtle, and meld well with the silky, dense-fruit Syrah with hints of cigar box and fresh leaf tobacco. The intense, dusty-black fruit flavors have a warm intermingling of the Rye whiskey flavors. It taste like a sumptuous wine, but then it has transformed into a different animal, with the Rye whiskey aromas and tastes. More delicious chewy, bacon-fat tones, with deep blackberry and black raspberry jam highlights. It invokes a pleasantly, pipe smoke filled room, with old classic novels lying about.

Pairs well with steak, heavier marinades. More of a sipping wine, really.

Avennia Gravura Red Blend 2013

Avennia Gravura Red Blend is made from 48% Cabernet Sauvignon 41% Merlot 11% Cabernet Franc

Gravura is our ode to the Graves AOC of Bordeaux, emphasizing a harmony of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The name is a play on an artisan printing technique, and on the Bordeaux region of Graves, which features similar blends. Featuring more Merlot and with the addition of Red Mountain fruit, this wine is designed to be more generous and voluptuous in style, while still remaining complex and balanced.

Gravura Tasting Notes: Beautiful nose of red and black fruits, some savory leaf notes, mocha, pencil shavings. The palate is elegant and balanced, almost pretty: raspberry, black and red currants, milk chocolate and caressing tannins. Finish medium-long and ethereal.

Review:

"The 2013 'Gravura' follows up the highly impressive 2012 bottling of this red wine. This. Is a blend of 47% Cabernet, 44% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Franc. The blend was aged in 50% new French oak for 20 months prior to bottling. This wine begins with aromas of red cherry, red raspberry, mocha and sandalwood. There are flavors of coffee grounds, black olive, black cherry and boysenberry preserves. Lovely texture and mouthfeel, with light tannins and a long finish. This will cellar beautifully. (Best 2016-2028) - OB"

Review:

he 2014 Gravura should be a killer value and it offers Graves-like notes of dark fruits, coffee, damp earth and mineral in a fresh, elegant, silky style. You can feel the tannin here, but they're approachable and ripe, and I suspect this should show nicely right out of the gate. - Wine Advocate 91-93 Points

Avennia Justine Red Blend 2014

Avennia Justine Red Blend 49% Mourvedre, 28% Grenache, 23% Syrah

Justine reflects our belief that Washington is capable of producing world class blends of grape varieties traditional to the Southern Rhone region of France. The name is inspired by one of the great heroines of recent literature, who also sprung from the imagination of the Mediterranean. Dark, seductive, complex, with a chasm of depth: The Justine is a great reflection of Avennia's mission of expression, and Washington's generous terroir.

Tasting Note: Big black cherry, blackberry, hints of orange peel, fresh herbs and loam on the nose. Plush and round on the palate. Dark earthy fruits from the Mourvedre, along with citrus high notes, mountain flowers, jasmine, and savory herbs. Balanced and complex without forgetting its hedonistic roots in the Southern Rhone.

Avennia Sestina Red Blend 2013

Avennia Sestina Red Blend is made from 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc

The Sestina is a poetic form from Medieval France. Just as a contemporary poet can use an old form like the Sestina to express modern ideas, we use the traditional Bordeaux blend to make modern wines that express Washington fruit. Sestina is our vision for an old vine blend where the focus is on structure, balance, and complexity. This wine is designed for the cellar, but is enjoyable now.

Sestina: This wine is a blockbuster, with black currant, black raspberry, saddle leather, freshly tilled earth, vanilla, and violet on the nose. Exceedingly rich and balanced on the palate, with great poise and structure for long aging. The finish echoes with fresh black fruits, minerally touches, and floral notes.

"Bright medium ruby. Aromas of black cherry, mocha and licorice pastille. Attractive, tactile and sweet, with notes of chocolate and mocha but less fruit concentration than the 2012. Finishes with serious ripe tannins and lovely length. - Stephen Tanzer"
- Vinous (November 2015), 92 pts

"The most structured and backward of Chris's 2013s, the Cabernet Sauvignon dominated 2013 Sestina offers lots of minerality and crushed rock nuances to go with notes of wood smoke, lead pencil shavings, spice and crisp black fruits. It has a great mid-palate and good texture, but patience will be required. Give it 5-6 years and it should impress over the following decade or more.."
- Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (Issue #219, June 2015), 92-94+ pts

"More brains than brawn, the focus on this understated Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant blend is on old vines, with fruit coming mostly from early '70s and '80s Dionysus, Bacchus and Red Willow vineyard plantings. The earth, black cherry, peppercorn, currant and dried herb aromas start out tightly coiled. The flavors have laser-focused purity and a compelling sense of balance, with plenty of subtleties. It's all about nuance."

- Wine Enthusiast (July 2016), 93 pts

"Head winemaker, Chris Peterson, has crafted another stunner with this new 'Sestina' bottling. This wine is a blend of 73% Cabernet, 18% Merlot and 9% Cab Franc. The wine opens with gorgeous aromas of black cherry, black olive, blackberry preserves and dark chocolate. There is a real Bordelaise feel to this wine. The wine has flavors of crushed wild flowers, Turkish coffee, black olive, blackberry preserves, graphite, and an exceedingly long finish. There is a wonderful range of flavors and aromatics at play to this exceptional bottling. Try to wait at least another year before consuming. (Best 2017-2030).- OB"

A longer-term prospect, the Cabernet Sauvignon dominated 2014 Sestina sports a deep, opaque ruby/purple color to go with fabulous notes of blackberries, currants, smoked herbs and sweet oak. Full-bodied, concentrated and rich, yet also elegant and with terrific purity, give bottles 3-4 years and enjoy over the following two decades.

Avennia Valery Red Blend 2014

Avennia Valery Red Blend is made from 86% Merlot and 14% Cabernet Franc

Valery is named for the patron saint of wine in the St. Emilion region that inspired it.
We started with old vine Merlot from a stony block in the heart of the Yakima Valley and added complex, aromatic Cabernet Franc from the Horse Heaven Hills. The result is a balanced, complex wine with the elegance and ethereal perfume that this blend of two of Washington’s best varietals are known for.

The nose on this wine is very perfumed, almost exotic with notes of fresh violets, red plum, winter mint, fresh herbs and crushed limestone qualities. The palate is poised and balanced, with red fruits and mocha powder encapsulated in limestone. The finish lingers delicately, with the Cabernet Franc asserting a light tobacco and herb note, giving depth. A compelling wine that will continue to unwind for 7-10 years in the cellar.

Review:

Tasted out of barrel and a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Franc, the 2014 Valery offers lots of leafy herbs, tobacco leaf, black cherries and a touch of dark chocolate in an elegant, focused, fresh style. The estate's Right Bank-styled release, it too should drink nicely in its youth, yet also evolve for 10-15 years. - Wine Advocate 91-93 Points

Buty Wildebeest Red Blend 2011

Buty Wildebeest Red Blend 2011 is made from  77% Syrah,  14% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc

BEAST is the alter ego of Buty. The mercurial nature of our BEAST wines allows us the freedom to explore new varietals, new vineyards and new blends beyond the classic Buty portfolio. Made with a clear vision and voice, these wines have developed their own faithful following. Our Wildebeest is available nationally in fine restaurants and wine shops.

Lair of the BEAST: A denizen of the Columbia Valley, the 2011 Wildebeest roams far and wide. This vintage was predominantly raised in the Horse Heaven Hills on the slopes of Phinny Hill Vineyard and nearby Champoux Vineyard. It was also reared at River Rock Vineyard and our own Rockgarden Estate in the Walla Walla Valley.

Season of the BEAST: Though the 2011 growing season started with a cool, damp spring, this presented no significant issues in the vineyards, other than to delay budbreak and flowering. A cool summer with no heat events afforded abundant hangtime, and allowed the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly, while retaining excellent acidity. In 2010, these factors combined to create BEASTs of noble stature and noteworthy complexity.

Winemaking: Our 2011 Wildebeest was blended from 77% Syrah, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon and 9% Cabernet Franc, with each lot fermented and aged separately in the finest French oak for 20 months. In order to allow the Wildebeest to display its native fruit and spice character, the barrels were generally older (from two to five years). However, approximately 25% was aged in larger-format puncheons, with one puncheon being new. Overall, the new oak is 7%. The alcohol content is 14%.

Notes Upon Encountering the Wildebeest: Our 2011 Wildebeest displays purity and power, with firm tannins, enticing aromatics and a creamy texture. Even though they are not the majority of the blend, the Bordeaux varieties shine through, with the Cabernet Sauvignon providing beautiful structure, acidity and a dark berry core, and the Cabernet Franc contributing ethereal blue fruit notes and hints of exotic spice and mint. Throughout, the Syrah adds lush layers of black cherry, raspberry and licorice, making this a rich and compelling BEAST.

Cueva de las Manos Red Blend 2013

Cueva de las Manos Red Blend 2013 is made from 70% Malbec, 29% Bonarda, 1% Cabernet Franc

Opaque in color, this saturated Malbec-led blend exhibits coconut and cola aromas along with fully ripe blackberry notes. This is massive in the mouth, with a solid foundation. Maximum berry expression and a jammy, deep-fruited finish give this power and content beyond its price point.

Rubus Proprietary Red Blend Australia 2014

Tasting Notes: Deep, dark ruby color, aromas of blue fruits, confectionery and subtle licorice characters, thick luscious palate with good structure and soft finish.

The Blend is 44% Rubired, 31% Durif and 25% Shiraz.

Rubired is a cross between Tinto Cao and Alicante Ganzin (which is itself a cross between Alicante Bouschet and Aramon Rupestris Ganzin). It is known for being particularly adapted to the hot climate and producing dark wines, as the color is not only coming from the grape's skin, but also from the grape juice itself. It was developed in 1958 by H.P. Olmo of the University of California Davis.

Durif, also known as Petite Sirah, is also a cross of two different grape varietals: Syrah and Peloursin. It was created by French botanist François Durif in 1860 while keeping Syrah and Peloursin plants under the same roof; it happened from a natural process called "cross-pollination." The grape itself is known for its very aromatic, plummy character.

Shiraz, which we all know for being the most recognized grape varietal of Australia, brings some minty, spicy and fruity characteristics to the wines.

Grapes are crushed and destemmed then placed in rotary fermenters where three rotations per day break up the cap and extract color and tannin. Commercial yeast is added for fermentation. The juice is pressed to stainless steel for malolactic fermentation, undergoes oak maturation for 9 months, then is stored in stainless steel.

Pairs well with BBQ lamb with roast vegetables.

Review:

Supple, open-textured and appealing, with rich plum and black cherry fruit riding easily over polished tannins, with hints of coffee and spice on the long and expressive finish. Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Drink now through 2020. 415 cases made. - Wine Spectator 92 Points

Made from 84% Cabernet Sauvignon and 16% Syrah, this up-front wine offers aromas of herbs, dried cherry and woodspice. The dark fruit flavors are rich, layered and focused, with the tannins tightly wound, seeming to need more time in the cellar to come into their own. - Wine Enthusiast 92 Points

Bright dark red. Aromatically pure, nuanced nose combines purple fruits, flowers, cocoa powder and a meaty nuance. Suave, seamless and intense, offering lovely ripeness as well as superb energy to the high-pitched flavors of red fruits, spices and flowers. Finishes tactile and chocolatey, with refined tannins and excellent length. Boasts lovely balance for a graceful evolution in bottle.

Buty Rediviva of the Stones 2011

Buty Rediviva of the Stones 2011 is a blend of syrah and cabernet sauvignon is grown in the ancestral riverbed of the Walla Walla River. Dominated by syrah, the exact blend with cabernet sauvignon reflects the vintage balance. It is aged entirely in French cooperage without new oak. Rediviva of the Stones is delicate, sensuous, and of the earth with lovely floral notes.

Buty Rediviva of the Stones 2012

Both savory and sweet, this blend of syrah, cabernet sauvignon and mourvèdre displays lovely depth and density, with vivid floral, black raspberry, beach smoke and baking spice notes. In both the nose and on the palate, the syrah brings lush red fruit, with deep raspberry and black cherry layers. The cabernet adds high-toned floral elements and substantial mid-palate weight, as well as blackberry, currant and olive flavors, with the mourvèdre contributing to the wine’s tannic structure and spice elements of cinnamon, nutmeg and white pepper.
