Vinterra Pinot Noir 2014 is made from 100 percent Pinot Noir
The Vinterra Pinot Noir was produced from selected parcels of grapes grown on our Waipara and Marlborough vineyards. The fruit was harvested from March into April in excellent condition. Upon arrival at the winery the fruit was destemmed and gently tipped into open top fermenters. After a five day cool soak period yeast was added to the tanks to initiate ferment. The cap was hand plunged three times a day and the juice remained “on skins” for an average of 15 days.Malolactic fermentation and four months oak maturation were completed prior to blending and bottling.
The Vinterra Pinot Noir displays ripe, earthy and berry fruit aromas as well as some sweet plum notes on the nose, following through to a full and rounded palate, displaying strawberry, cherry and dark berry fruit flavors. An excellent match for most meat dishes.
The Vinterra Estate
The family owned and operated winery was founded in the late 1980's. It is located in the picturesque Waipara Valley, a 45-minute drive north of the city of Christchurch.
The Vinterra Vineyards
They own four separate vineyards in the Waipara Valley, and four others in the famed Marlborough Region, at the top of the South Island.
Barrel fermented in mixed age French oak producing a medium clear lemon color. This wine has a luminescent, straw color with a subtle sheen. Meyer lemon, white nectarine, baking spice, and salt water taffy on the nose. The palette offers up warm oak spice, sandalwood, and stone fruit.
With a lemon-butter-cream texture, this wine is lush yet still very bright and fresh. Lively acidity, with a custard type of roundness/richness, and the warm oak spice follows through on the pallet. Delicious balance between richness and freshness.
As with all our whites, this wine will reward you for cellaring.

Nose: Steady rose, brilliant and cristal clear.
Aromas : very complex : from flowers, white fruits and red fruits (strawberries, pomegranate, rapsberry). Slightly mentho-lated
Palate : fresh, classy, elegant, very long.
Aging capacity : 8 to 10 years.
This wine comes from a parcel planted on a pebbled soil covered with stones, whose geology is typical of the grands crus from the Rhone Valley (a base made of marine molasse from the Miocene period covered with an alpine diluvium from the Villafranchian period). 100 % destemming, cold maceration during 48 h., pneumatic pressing, fermentation at 18° C.
To pair with: roasted and or spicy chicken, duck, goose, fish soup, white meat, seafood and a lot of fishes (tuna, John Dorry, red mulet, etc...).Quite all Asian cuisine. Dishes with garlic, dishes with tomatoes.
Review:
"Limpid orange. Vibrant and expressive on the nose, displaying cherry, blood orange and floral scents and a building mineral note. Sappy red currant and bitter cherry flavors flesh out slowly with air, picking up a hint of fennel on the back half. The finish hangs on with impressive tenacity, leaving behind bitter orange pith and cherry pit notes.- Josh Raynolds"
