Review:

(14.7% alcohol; mostly from Bacchus and Dionysos vineyards): Healthy dark red. Nicely ripe, nuanced aromas of black- and redcurrant, blueberry, licorice, fresh herbs and tobacco leaf. Deep, spicy, chewy Cabernet with lovely acidity giving shape and clarity to its flavors of blueberry, blackberry, cassis and bitter chocolate. Very nicely balanced, long wine with firm tannins that avoid dryness.

Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 2013

I think the wine of the vintage, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon from the Columbia Valley is flat out sensational, and flirts with perfection. Its inky ruby/purple color is followed by incredible notes of cassis, black currants, smoked herbs, licorice and graphite. These give way to a full-bodied, utterly seamless Cabernet that has full-bodied richness, ultra-fine tannin and a killer finish. While it possesses the elegance and purity of the vintage, it has a stacked mid-palate, and deserves 4-5 years of cellaring. It will have two decades or more of overall longevity. - Wine Advocate 99 Points

Product Description

Aromas of cedary oak, currants, black cherries and ripe plums are rich and concentrated on the palate. The firm tannins underlying the wine's core provide balance, leading to a long, lingering finish. The 2011 vintage is reflected in this wine, favoring balance to overt ripeness.

"Subtle aromas of blueberry, blackberry and bramble berry follow through to full body, fine tannins and a fresh finish. Chewy and lively on the finish. Shows the tension of the great 2013 vintage in Napa Valley. Why wait? - James Suckling"

Winery: Waterstone

The Waterstone Wines Estate
In this time of multimillion-dollar vineyard estates and celebrity winemaking consultants, when it seems that financial backing has replaced skill as the key to success in enology, it is rare that a simple idea can give birth to wines that stand out for flavor and balance, rather than pedigree alone. A collaboration between veteran winemaker Philip Zorn and longtime wine executive Brent Shortridge, Waterstone Winery was formed in 2000 when the two men were introduced and discovered a shared interest in creating luxury wines at affordable prices. Bringing together their previously established relationships with Napa Valley growers and vintners, the pair set out to develop balanced wines of varietal character through intelligent sourcing. Preferring to focus on the wine itself rather than the accumulation of land and facilities, Zorn and Shortridge own no vineyards themselves, nor do they own the facility where their wines are made. Dedicated winemaking, strong relationships with top growers and long-term grape contracts are the keys to Waterstone’s quality and success.

Review:

(from a south-facing vineyard planted on bluish-green compact clay): Precise but subdued aromas of pineapple, lemon peel, orange zest and flowers, plus a suggestion of white truffle. Very suave and fine-grained, showing superb inner-mouth energy and floral lift to the delicate lemon and orange flavors. Still youthfully imploded but already conveys terrific fruit intensity. Not an exuberant style but silky, saline and deep. The alcohol here is a natural 13.5%. - Stephen Tanzer 90-92

SonVida Malbec 2013

Vintage Closeout  Sale

SonVida Malbec 2013 is made from 95% Malbec and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon

The most challenging of years yielded a great harvest, and a magnificent wine.  Frost in September, just as our Malbec was in budbreak.  Then a fierce Zonda wind in early November, just as the vineyard was flowering.  The result?  Yields low, BUT quality high.

SonVida Malbec 2013 celebrates intense fruit, plum, blackberry, even dark chocolate notes, with the optimal acidity and smooth tannins that are so typical of the award-winning Altamira district in the Uco Valley of Mendoza.  Above all, this latest Malbec from the Alegira vineyard boasts rare balance - a hint of the Old World in the best of the New World.

Review:

"Sonia and David Smith, a British couple that settled in Mendoza, began producing wine in 2007 in Altamira, in the Uco Valley. Their 2013 shows the most refreshing and fruity side of malbec, the crisp red fruit flavor and violet notes lifted by its effusive energy. Firm acidity and prickly tannins suggest a match with venison."

Reviews:

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2011 Old Vine Shiraz Reserve Release is intensely scented of spiced blackberries, black cherry tart and mulberries with underlying Chinese five spice, incense, Szechuan pepper and star anise hints. Full-bodied and loaded with muscular, blackberry and exotic spice flavors, it displays a good backbone of medium to firm, rounded tannins and lively acid before finishing long and layered. Approachable now, it should drink to 2024+. -Robert Parker 93+ Points

Our Touraine Sauvignon blanc is crisp and refreshing, with rich, ripe lime and grapefruit aromas. Great elegance with mineral style and despite everything some kind of roundness.

Wine was slightly filtered before bottling to ensure wine will remain stable.

Ideal for the Aperitif , any cooked fish such as smoked and grilled salmon but also obviously with a Goat Cheese.
