The Calvados Morin Estate
The history of Calvados Morin began in 1889 in La Haye de Calleville in the Risle Valley, before Pierre Morin succeeded his father and transferred their small family business to Brionne, and from there finally to Ivry la Bataille, a charming small Norman town in the Eure Valley. Calvados Morin was set up in 1945 in the former facilities of the Theleme Distillery, a famous liquor at that time. The main advantage of the establishment is its ageing facilities, which are unique in Normandy, particularly its large underground cellars, where several hundred small oak barrels containing the precious Brandy can be stored. Today, the company is run by Mr. Viry, father and son, who succeeded Pierre Morin, and continue to work in the footsteps of their founder. The company has been exporting its products since 1950s, and now exports almost half of its production to the European Community, Switzerland, Eastern Europe and Asia. In addition, it was one of the first to send Calvados to the United States.
The Calvados Morin Environment
The unique environment of the cellars plays an important role in the development of the Calvados. Dug into the chalky hills of the Eure Valley, the long galleries go deep into the cliff. The extremely humid atmosphere of these places is perfect for the Calvados ageing process, maturing in silence, away from the vibrations of the city. The relative humidity of the air (almost 100%) allows the alcohol content to decrease naturally, resulting in the smoothest, most harmonious brandy. Calvados Morin offers a broad range of quality levels, ranging from 3-year old to over 30-year old brandies.

It is made with 2/3 Unfermented sweet fruit juice (apple and pear) with 1/3 distilled alcohol at 51% ABV (Calvados).
Excellent with desert, such as French crepes (very thin pancakes).

J. Lohr Signature Cabernet Sauvignon was first produced to honor the 80th birthday of founder Jerry Lohr. This limited release was specially selected and blended from the exceptional 2016 vintage in Paso Robles. It is both a tribute to Jerry's pioneering efforts in the region and our red wine portfolio's ultimate expression of Cabernet Sauvignon. VINEYARDS & CELLAR Beck Vineyard, in the Creston District of Paso Robles, is a unique, high elevation site that sits at 1,700 feet above the early morning fog line. Its calcareous soils and cooling afternoon winds are perfect for growing Cabernet Sauvignon. The Cabernet from this vineyard ripens early with excellent color, purity of fruit, and phenolic maturity. Incorporation of Cabernet Franc brings freshness to the blend, while the rare Bordeaux variety, Saint Macaire, brings density and a savory character. Petit Verdot and Malbec add structure, color, and a component of bright fruit. The hand-harvested grapes were held separate at harvest and berry-sorted into six-ton open top tanks for fermentation. Maceration took place on the skins for five days, before early pressing to achieve ideal tannin extraction. Aged 19 months in 100% new French oak from coopers Nadalie and Sylvain.
Review:
The nose on this luxury-level bottling is pure and refreshing, offering aromas of black cherry, loamy soil, dried mint and caramel-laced coffee. The palate is framed by upright tannins, yet is soft enough to enjoy now, showing deep flavors of black currant, dried herb, milk chocolate and toffee. Drink 2020–2040.

Argot Starstruck Cabernet Sauvignon is made from 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot (15-25 years old)
An explosive nose of Cabernet—singular only to the Napa Valley—introduces the 2019 Starstruck with classically elegant red and black Cabernet fruits, enhanced by notes of smoked sage and rosemary. Red-fruits carry the mid-palate, dancing on a pillow of wonderfully sweet tannin and pie spice complexity. As the wine transitions from the mid, acid emerges lifting Starstruck's massive palate into a warming finish that continues to reveal dark fruits and intriguing spice accents. A gorgeous Cabernet that remains approachable, while its structure and earthy complexities keep bombast at bay.
