Figaro Tinto Calatayud 2018

Figaro Tinto Calatayud is 100% Garnacha, made from a selection of the best grapes grown in the oldest vineyards. While not truly an "oaked wine", a short stay in oak barrels provides a nice spicy flavor boost.

Tasting notes: Bright violet. Dark berry and cherry aromas show a jammy aspect. Supple and gently sweet, with good lift to its black raspberry and boysenberry flavors. Smooth and broad on the finish, leaving behind a hint of spiciness. Extremely easy to drink and an excellent value.

Trespass Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Very vibrant and incredibly deep and colorful. The nose begins with black cherry, crème de cassis, black and blue fruit and even hints of floral. The French Oak moves in with a colorful spice box nuance with a longer take in the glass. On the palate this wine crescendos with velvet all around. There is an enveloped warmth and richness right away at the focal point in the mouth. Flavors swirl and build and on into the back for a huge finish of ripe blackberry jam.

Burgo Viejo Rioja Tinto 2018

Burgo Viejo Rioja Tinto  is made from 85% Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha & 5% Mazuelo

Burgo Viejo Tinto comes from a careful selection of the grapes during the harvest followed by meticulous vinification to extract the highest potential of the grapes in an effort to achieve a fresh, powerful, fruit-driven young wine that will satisfy a wide range of palates.

The wine shows fresh aromas of red fruit –strawberry candy- on a very subtle background of sweet vanilla and cocoa. In mouth it is also fresh with balanced acidity, good length and absolutely velvety tannins.

Alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel vats at controlled temperature and malolactic fermentation in concrete vats.

Enjoy it with pasta dishes, cheese and red meat.

Showing similar aromatics, with copious toast, licorice, wood spice, black raspberry and crushed flowers, the Grand Veneur 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes possesses awesome depth and richness, full-bodied power and a blockbuster finish. A blend of 40% Grenache, 40% Mourvedre and 20% Syrah (from 5-to-100+-year-old vines) that spent 16 month in 60% small barrels, it is a brilliant 2011 that will have 15+ years of longevity. Hats off to the Jaume brothers for this superb effort. Wine Advocate #209 95 Points

Loring Rosellas Vineyard Pinot Noir 2011

Offering up a touch more freshness and detail, the 2011 Pinot Noir Rosella’s Vineyard is also upfront and textured, with ripe black cherry, rose garden and spring flower-like nuances all flowing to a medium-bodied, elegant and textured palate. There’s not a huge amount of back-end depth but it’s gorgeous nonetheless and I love the overall focus. It should shine for 4-5 years. Drink now-2018. This was an impressive (and large) lineup of wines. Made by the brother/sister pair, Brian and Kimberly Loring, with Rachel Silkowski functioning as assistant winemaker, these efforts never lack for fruit or texture and, for the most part, reward immediate gratification. Having said that, I think these 2011s will offer a relatively broad drink window. The 2012s are more rich and voluptuous, with the purity of fruit and seamlessness of the vintage.   (8/ 2013) Wine Advocate 92 Points

Pago de Carraovejas Cuesta Liebres 2011 (magnum)

Pago de Carraovejas Cuesta Liebres is made from 90% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Following the hottest and then moved to fermenting containers where gravity aids the fermentation process. Aged 24 months in new French oak barrels. Clarified with natural egg white. Intense red cherry color with purple hues. Ripe fruit aromas, vanilla notes. Suave and unctuous in the mouth. A strong and noble character.

The vineyard is located on a hillside at 900 metres above sea level with 30%-40% slopes. Vertical Axis growing system. High minerality limestone soils, with white calcareous salts. The vineyard was planted in 1994.

Grapes are handpicked and taken to the winery in small crates . After spending a few hours in a refrigerating chamber the grapes are placed into the vats by gravity.

Both alcoholic and malolactic fermentations are carried out in small French oak Haute Futaie vats with yeasts and bacteria found at the estate ,allowing the wines to fully express the terroir and respecting each vintage ́s unique characteristics.

The wine gently flows into the extra fine-grain French oak barrels by gravity flow where it will spend 24 months.

Fined with natural egg white and bottled by gravity with selected natural cork stoppers in April 2014.

Review:

Vivid ruby. Intensely perfumed dark berry and floral pastille scents show excellent purity and lift, with a hint of white pepper and building spiciness. Supple and open-knit, offering intense raspberry, vanilla and lavender pastille flavors that put on weight with air. Clean, bright and seamless on the impressively persistent finish, with the red fruit and floral notes echoing strongly. - Vinous 93 Points

(100% garnacha; aged briefly in oak):  Bright ruby.  Spicy cherry and dark berries on the nose.  Juicy blackberry and blueberry flavors are firmed by fine-grained tannins and enlivened by tangy acidity.  A spicy note builds on the gently sweet, persistent finish, with the blueberry note repeating.-Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar 88 Points

"This is dark as night, with boysenberry, blackberry, animal fur and smooth oak aromas. For $10, it’s bringing all sorts of power and quality, like oak-influenced flavors of vanilla, chocolate, blackberry and cassis. On the finish, this is full and smacks down with tannic grab.- MS"-  Wine Enthusiast (July 2013), 88 pts + BEST BUY

"This 2012 Tinto (100% Grenache) offers uplifted, fragrant notes of licorice, lavender and black cherry jam. Intense and spicy with medium to full body, and not a hard edge to be found, this is a classic, seductive, consumer-friendly Grenache to drink over the next 1-2 years. "

Winery: Figaro - Bodega Nino Jesus

The Figaro Estate
Bodega Nino Jesus, founded in 1978 within the DO Calatayud denomination. This is an agricultural co-op specialized in grape and cherry production. There are 150 grape growers in the co-op, tending 330 hectares (815 arces) of vines with an average age of more than 30 years. The principal grape variety is Garnacha (also called Garnacha Tinta del Monte or "Red Garnacha from the hills"). Other varieties planted include Tempranillo, Syrah (recent) and the white Macabeo (a.k.a. Viura).

The Figaro Vineyards
The vines grow at altitudes between 650 and 880 meters above sea level on rocky/gravel soils with a minimal organic content. This, along with the vine's age and scant rainfall means very low yields in the range of 1.5 to 2 kilos per plant. Extreme temperature shifts, both seasonal and daytime to nighttime, make for fully ripened grapes which maintain their natural acidity.

Gaudrelle Cremant de Loire Sparkling Brut NV

Made from 50% chenin blanc and 50% chardonnay

It is an interesting experience as a sparkling wine for people who want to have a fine and elegant wine comparable to Champagne for a very good price.

This methode traditionnelle sparkling wine is aged for minimum 18-24 months in cave before disgorging. The dosage is 12 g/l residual sugar and the wine is aged for minimum 3 months after disgorging .

Review:

"The two sparkling wines should not be missed. They're both terrific examples of how good sparkling Vouvray can be. Both are 100% Chenin Blanc cuvees. Even better is the slightly richer, more honey and lemon-scented and flavored non-vintage Cremant de Loire. A blend of equal parts Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay aged for a minimum of 18 to 24 months in their cellars before disgorgement, this is a real beauty and a superb wine. Unfortunately, just under 100 cases are imported to the United States." -Wine Advocate 92 pts
