"This is what Padthaway Shiraz is all about with powerful, sweet flavours nicely tempered by some more savoury nuances – Shiraz with a kicker. Quite deeply coloured, it opens up with an array of red and black fruit pastille aromas topped by bay leaf and black pepper backed up by a decent dose of oak – French and American, adding vanilla bean and toasted coconut. It’s then quite chunky on the palate, delivering plenty in both the flavour and complexity department. The fruit is fleshy and generous while reasonable tannins are well integrated and provide a solid backbone to fruit and oak. It’s a bit old fashioned in the oak department you might say but fans of oaky reds will lap it up in the blink of an eye."

The 2021 Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon is a wine for the ages. Potent aromas jump out of the glass, showing framboise candy, black tea, and a strong classic note of sandalwood. Savory cumin, sage, and garrigue round out this powerful nose. The palate is sweet and velvety, leading to an amazing crescendo of power and refinement.

With 90% of the grapes from Champoux Vineyard and 10% from Mach One Vineyard, this blend could have been labeled Horse Heaven Hills and is certainly no less a standout than the vineyard-designate bottlings. Mint, black fruit, cinnamon, sandalwood, blueberry and floral notes form a seamless whole, wrapped in beautifully integrated, fine tannins.

Our Cold Creek Chardonnay is grown in the slightly cooler microclimate of the Sonoma side of the Los Carneros district to the west, where thick fog and cool marine winds protect its tender skins. Indigenous to the Burgundy region of France, Clones 15 and 95 at a 50:50 ratio exhibit an approachable style and luminous, golden color.

Tasting Notes: The appearance of golden straw leads you through an aromatic journey with notes of tropical fruits, sweet nectarine, melon, and vanilla. The wine has flavors of jasmine, citrus, and ripe Fuji apple that are complemented by a creamy mouthfeel and hints of lemon curd. The finish lingers on the palate, making you yearn for the next sip.

rowing in the gravelly soil of an ancient riverbed in the beautiful Alexander Valley, the old vines benefit from hot afternoons and cool, foggy mornings, favorable for the development of Botrytis (Noble Rot). Extremely small yields in the Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscat vineyards lead to the immensely concentrated fruit. Just as one receives a note from one’s sweetheart, we present this wine as a precious ‘Love Note’ or ‘Billet Doux.’

Deep crystal clear gold. Intense and complex bouquet of dry apricot, pêche de vigne and Reine Claude yellow plum intermixed with notes of quince, honey, Muscat and a hint of sweet vanilla. Full bodied, the palate is reminiscent of the nose, with a creamy sweet texture and a great intensity. The large amount of sugar and glycerin creates a highlighted viscosity. Along with the wine’s great concentration, richness and opulence, the classical aromatic complexity reveals a flamboyant yet harmonious ensemble, leading to a very long, complex and smooth finish.

Produced from 65% Sémillon, 31% Sauvignon Blanc and 4% Muscat, the 2012 Billet Doux has a medium golden color and profoundly scented nose of beeswax, honeyed nuts, orange marmalade, Manuka honey and preserved lemons. Full-bodied, full-on sweet, rich, concentrated and oh-so-unctuous, it delivers powerful flavor layers and epic length. 175 cases were made.

Ron Thorn Barossa Single Vineyard Shiraz 2017

Deep red with a slight purple hue on release. The wine has a rich mix of dark chocolate infused with coffee bean and black liquorice, then scents of tar, aniseed, raw (pure) soy and black olive on the nose. The palate is expansive, and yet balanced and finessed. An amalgam of dark berried flavors and textural sensations. The 100% new oak is completely absorbed, meshed with ripe tannins, completing a palate of impressive length and youthfulness.


     Slowly the tide turned, Australians began drinking more wine and Dad with his uncanny ability to select and plant Clifton Park with the grape varieties of the future, saw fortunes change for Clifton Park and the Thorn family. I loved my Dad's wry sense of humor and his work ethic was an inspiration to us all.


   "My father, Ron, was born in 1923 at the Angaston Hospital not far from where the Thorn-Clarke Winery is currently located. He was the fourth born of the nine children my grandparents raised at Clifton Park in the Eden Valley Ranges. Dad's great-grandparents took up farming land in the Barossa in the 1840's and purchased Clifton Park, where Dad grew up, in the 1870's. To this day, Clifton Park remains in the Thorn family and the 1870's vineyard still produces quality fruit.



      As the family grew, Dad showed tenacity and judgment by pulling out orchards and extending the family vineyards. During the 1950's, 60's, and 70's, times were testing for a family business based on dry land horticulture and mixed farming. Dad's strong work ethic proved an invaluable asset during the tough years on the farm and he traveled widely as a shearer, drove bulldozers and worked at the local cement works to support his family.



     Ron Thorn Shiraz is made from the best fruit that we grow and is produced only in exceptional years. This wine is given the benefit of 20 months barrel maturation and 12 months in bottle prior to release. Product Description

Bouquet: Fresh aromas of plums, black cherry and roasted nut intertwined with cinnamon, vanilla and dark chocolate
Palate: Rich fruit driven front palate is jam packed with plums and black cherries. The mid palate is all strawberries and cream with lashings of vanilla custard. This fruit richness and luscious mid palate is the hallmark of this wine style, with sympathetic and balanced oak completing the traditional Shiraz flavor and structural profile. The youthful grape tannins provide a gritty texture and firm length that will soften and integrate with age.

This wine is selected from intense and powerful Shiraz parcels from our best McLaren Vale vineyard blocks, with the variation in sites contributing different layers of flavor and tannin textures that defines the wine. The fruit was fermented on skins for 7 - 10 days in open fermenters prior to pressing, with 90% of the wine undergoing barrel fermentation.

Maturation was in varying proportions of new and one year old French and American oak barrels for 19 months. The components are selected for this wine based on their fruit intensity, richness, structure and the integration or style of oak.

Fox Creek Wines is a family owned and operated winery located in the McLaren Vale wine region of South Australia's Fleurieu Peninsula. The Watts family purchased 32Ha of land in 1984 and then in 1994 established the Fox Creek brand. Throughout the company's 18 year history, Fox Creek has developed a portfolio of wines which is diverse both in premium varieties used and also wine styles. They have also invested heavily in the development of the brand through the completion of a first class, on-site winery in 2000, which has further ensured that the paramount level of quality control, on which the brand prides itself, is maintained from the vineyard to the glass.
With a Langton's 'Excellent' Classification, consecutive (Red) 5 Star Halliday ratings, three time 'Bushing Trophy' winner for Best Wine at the McLaren Vale Wine Show and a swag of trophies and gold medals from both Australian and International wine shows; Fox Creek has quickly established itself as one of McLaren Vale and indeed the World's, finest and most iconic wine producers.
Senior winemaker Scott Zrna, believes that winemaking is about producing the absolute best. This mentality is evident through all aspects of his craft; from overseeing the operations in the vineyard and caring for the fruit in the winery to ensuring the very best quality product ends up in the glass and on tables around the World. Scott's passion runs deep; he was born with wine in his blood with his family having a long association in viticulture. He spent five vintages with Mildura Blass, a further six with McWilliams Wines and one vintage with Padthaway Estate, before joining the Fox Creek team in 2004.

Doctor Jim Watts; specialist and professor of surgery and his wife, -registered nurse- Helen began the Fox Creek story in 1984. They purchased a 32 hectare farming property in McLaren Vale and went about planting vines on the black clay soils which were previously used for grazing sheep and growing barley.

The vines thrived, bearing exceptionally high quality and sought after fruit. In 1994 the transition from growers to winemakers began, as the fruit that was previously sold to other wineries, was retained by the family and lovingly crafted into supreme quality wine. As the name 'Fox Creek Wines' suggests, there are many foxes which reside in the creek which runs through the middle of the property. In 1996, the Cellar Door was opened in a nineteenth century stone cottage built in the 1880's by the Malpas' family and in early 2000, construction of the on site winery was completed.

Fox Creek actively supports some of Australia's most renowned music and arts festivals, exhibitions and organizations as we believe it is a wonderful way to showcase the wine to a community who are able to appreciate a work of art! Fox Creek believes these mutually beneficial partnerships have promoted the growth and development of the brand through aiding and engaging the wider community whilst also maintaining positive corporate responsibility. Each Fox Creek wine back label also comprises braille, in support of those who are visibly impaired.

Fox Creek Vineyards

The on-site 1,500 tonne state of the art winery with modern equipment allows every winemaking operation to be performed to the highest standard. An array of stainless steel open fermenters support high quality, small batch oriented production, in line with the company's "boutique" winemaking approach. Ranging from 2.5 tonne hand plunged versions to 15 tonne elevated units, the construction and positioning of these fermenters means there is minimal post ferment mechanical handling of the grape skins. This allows Fox Creek to extract only the rich soft tannins from the skins, accentuating the fruit driven and full bodied McLaren Vale wine style.

Completing the vineyard to glass process, is a purpose built barrel hall to maximise the influence of the range of specialist coopered oak selected to match individual vineyard batches. Stocked with over 1000 barrels of French and American oak, the selection is a targeted mix of Hogsheads, Barriques and Puncheons aimed at matching the intricate needs of each vineyard block. Over time we have developed individual oak programs that best suit each wine style and selected specific barrels that emphasize the wines varietal characteristics. Frequent tasting during maturation ensures the focus on wine quality and allows us to track that the desired oak characteristics are being imparted into the wine.

Fox Creek is located 45 kilometers south of Adelaide, between McLaren Vale and Willunga on the
Fleurieu Peninsula. With 21 hectares of estate vineyard offering up six grape varietals, Fox Creek
respects the environment, practicing sustainable viticulture and planting of indigenous native trees.

The fresh Spring climate, following the typically wet winter provides the ideal growing conditions for vine vigor and growth, leading into the fruiting season. Dry summer conditions ensure the ripening
of grapes and the close proximity to the coast provides maritime evening breezes which cool the vines overnight, providing ideal growing conditions for premium quality fruit, leading to wines that exude elegance, structure and balance.

Sustainable vineyard practice and conscientious attention to the native landscape is maintained throughout the region to ensure future generations will continue to reap the rewards of the amazing wine growing region. Further, significant use of reclaimed storm water in the vineyards, minimizes the impact on the environment and the Murray River, particularly during drought years. McLaren Vale grape growers ensure the consistent production of high quality fruit by living and breathing the mantra, "good wine begins in the vineyard". The Fox Creek environmental conscience carries on into the winery, where a series of solar panels located on the roof produces renewable energy, whereby drastically reducing consumption of environmentally damaging coal generated power.
