Corvinoni, or Corvinone, is relatively new to wine lovers as it was formally added in 1993 by the National Catalogue of Varieties of Vine Wine. Corvinoni gives a nose of perfume and is fruity or spicy on the pallet. Corvinoni is full-bodied with a good amount of tannins. Corvinoni is often used to produce Amarone and Recioto Valpolicella wines. Corvinoni is known for the large leaves and grape clusters with compact generous berries. There are two biotypes of this grape, Corbinon and Cruinon. The size of the grape, in addition to the leaves, are different as well as the different aging times. The name Corvinoni is derived from the rich black color that is reminiscent of the inky dark color of a raven’s feathers. It could also be derived from the corba that was transferred to the grape baskets during heavy harvesting. The Corvinoni grape does exceptionally well in stony soils, hilly regions with considerable exposure. Corvinoni is sensitive to botrytis and other diseases like sour rot. It can also be susceptible to mildew and spine desiccation.

Inglenook Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is made from 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3.5% Cabernet Franc, 1% Merlot, 0.5% Petit Verdot.
A wine of considerable charm, energy and finesse, 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is opaque ruby red in color, and opens with aromas of ripe cassis, blackberry, espresso and cedar. Although powerful below the surface, the wine is extremely focused and well-balanced, with silky tannins, ample freshness, and vibrant structure, that lead to a crescendo in the lengthy, polished finish.
Review:
Full-bodied with lots of layered fruit and round, creamy tannins. The palate shows lovely ripe-berry character with chocolate and hazelnut and a long, flavorful finish. Hints of black truffles. Plenty going on here with a firm framework that gives the wine form and interest. Try it after 2022.

This is the first Petit Verdot varietal wine produced by Michael David Winery and one of the few ever produced from Lodi. Each year when compared to other Petit Verdot vineyards, the quality of this lot is at the top of its class. Because of the high level of tannin, color, and concentration, this wine is always put into new barrels early in the harvest season.
