Vermentino- Also planted as “Pigato” in Liguria and known as “Rolle” in Southern France. It is a white grape grown in Southern France, Northern Italy, and the islands of Corisca and Sardina. Vermentino is known for appealing aromas and produces invigorating acidity with green and citrus notes on the palate. In Tuscany, however, the wine presents depth and complexity in floral and slightly soapy qualities. Vermentino grapes are often compared to Viognier when grown in Northern Italy. All Vermentino is meant to be consumed while young and fresh. The grapes are amber-yellow and hang in pyramidal bunches. Vermentino is also used as a blender in varietal wines such as Colli di Luni and Cinque Terre. The first DOCG of Sardinia was Vermentino di Gallura. Sardinia is careful to pick the Vermentino grapes early in order to ensure the favorable crisp and fresh characteristics. Some DOCs in Liguria use the Vermentino grapes to produce a dry passito, even though this type of grape is not associated with sweet wines, and having virtually no residual sugar. The Southern France region of Provence has allowed the Vermentino grape to be used in some AOC production. The United States and Australia have also been growing Vermentino varietals and are having much success in producing wines with crisp, floral, and tart characteristics.

There are afternoons with indigo skies when we approach one of the oldest plots of the estate. Our stroll from the winery follows a line of cypress trees to the corner of a path. This angle gives its name to our most exceptional vineyard.
El Picón is the great symbol and the most profound reality. The sum of enigmas in a beautiful, pure fruit. The wine of silence and intimate joy, an eternal taste in which generations, labours and nature’s favors culminate.
Grapes from the plot of El Picón, one of the oldest at the Pago de los Capellanes estate in Pedrosa de Duero.
22 months in 225-litre, extra-fine grain French oak barrels dried over 60 months.
Pago de los Capellanes Finca El Picón is a mature red wine with intense aromas of red and black fruit from the forest accompanied by deep balsamic notes and spicy touches provided by aging. In the mouth it is meaty, deep and very balanced. A medium to full-bodied wine with vibrant acidity and fine, velvety tannins. The finish is long and very persistent.
1.6 hectares of clay loam soil with surface gravel. Very poor fertility and very low vineyard yields.
Opus One Overture 2022 is in stock and ready to ship.
Beginning in 1993 and following in the tradition of great Bordeaux estates, Opus One created a fine second wine called Overture. Every acre of the estate vineyard is meticulously farmed with the attention to detail and singular focus required to produce Opus One. This scrutiny carries through the blending process and certain lots will not be included in the final Opus One blend. Yet, when these lots are afforded additional time in barrel along with the added flexibility of blending across multiple vintages, the final wine achieves a remarkable elegance and complexity.
Overture 2022 captivates you from the start. Its aromatic profile weaves a complex tapestry of bright cherry, fresh forest berries, and cut rose stems interwoven with delicate scents of violets, toasted almond, and anise. Blackberry, blueberry, and wild cherry take the lead on the palate with a lively acidity that adds a vibrant edge. The finish is long and rounded, with a touch of mocha and black tea that showcase the wine’s depth. This expression of selected parcels from our estate vineyards will age gracefully for years to come.
