Languedoc is a wine region in France that has some of the oldest vineyards in the world. With over 700,000 acres, Languedoc is one of the largest producing regions on the planet. The Mediterranean climate makes it easy to grow grapes as does the soil which can vary from gravel and chalk-based to alluvial and limestone. In 2001, Languedoc produced more reds and whites than all of the regions in the Unites States put together. Languedoc produces the majority of grapes from what is called the, “Wine Lake.” The wines that are produced on the coast wear the label, Languedoc. The vineyards that are located on the top of the older riverbed stones are rated higher than other wines grown in the Languedoc region. The majority of Languedoc wines are made by more than 500 wine cooperatives with the best known appellations in the Saint Chinaian AOC, The Gaugeres, the Cobieres AOC and the Saint-Chinaian AOC. Because Languedoc is going through changes, there are new appellations that have been created with some of the older ones being changed. Although mainly known for wine, Languedoc also harbors a huge textile industry that is known all over the world.

Climatic conditions
The farming year began with a mild autumn and little precipitation. A very dry winter started with -9ºC reaching at the end higher temperatures than normal for that time of the year. Spring and summer characterized by little rain, only some rain showers in July and late August avoided the hydric stress of the vines. The vegetative cycle of the vine developed with big variations of temperatures, alternating warm and atypical low temperatures of 4ºC for mid-June. The ripening of the grapes happened under very good conditions and the harvest started on 24th September 2019.
Grape origin
100% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) primarily from very old vines – 60 to 90 years old – from selected plots in La Horra and La Aguilera. The harvest was done by hand, in small boxes of 15 kilos that are thoroughly inspected, bunch by bunch, on the selection table.
Tasting notes
Purple red color. On the nose we perceive good dark fruit intensity and elegant spicy hints. On the palate it is fresh and dense with enveloping tannins. AALTO PS 2019 is a long, intense and full of nuances wine that will benefit from a time in the bottle.
Average oak ageing
Aged for 21 months in new French oak barrels.

This wine is fragrant with mixed berry compote, crushed ivy, iron, and vanilla bean. Full in body and generously concentrated with notes of ripe black fruits, spice, dark chocolate, and espresso framed with silky tannins, food-friendly acidity, and a lingering finish.
