Lucien et Andre Brunel Chateauneuf-du-Pape Les Cailloux Blanc is made from 70% Roussanne, 20% Grenache Blanc, 10% Clairette.
Les Cailloux Blanc displays a pale gold color in its youth and evolves into deep gold after a few years of aging. It has floral scents of honeysuckle and jasmine with hints of honey. On the palate, white flowers and honey are joined by minerality and viscosity on the finish. The wine’s surprising complexity grows more well-rounded as it evolves in the glass.
This historic estate was established in the 17th century when André Brunel’s family purchased a vineyard plot from the Bishop of Avignon. André took over the reins of this estate in 1971, and later his son Fabrice joined the winemaking team in 2012, keeping the family legacy alive by pursuing quality with the highest regard and respect for the environment.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape is notorious for its large, round pebbles that absorb the sun’s energy, radiating warmth throughout the night, allowing the grapes to achieve ideal ripeness and incredible complexity. “Les Cailloux” gets its name from the pebbles.
Review:
Inviting aromas of grapefruit and lime zest, Meyer lemon and honeydew harmonize with wild white flowers and stone on the nose. The palate is refreshed by brisk acidity, making way for a wave of fresh pears lemon zest, subtly framed by a layer of stone and light oak spice.

The dazzling 2021 ‘The Velvet Glove’ is a monumental effort that has some really great aging potential. Coming from the Gateway Vineyard in McLaren Vale, this was aged in all new American oak before bottling. A total stunner, the seamless texture entices as you are greeted to blueberry compote with creme de violette, asphalt and stony mineral flavors, with serious viscosity and tension. This was just as outstanding tried the day after opening. Very heady and hedonistic, yet showing an astonishingly good acid backbone, this beauty will live on for another fifteen plus years to come.

The nose here is brilliantly red fruited, with layer upon layer of subtle spice, bright floral notes, herbs, and stone. Its not all poetry and pageantry, though, and the first impression of the wine was simply, “oh that’s goooood.” A fair assessment, and sometimes that it all one requires. Further tastes show fine tannin throughout, a juicy, vibrant mouthfeel that is very likeable, and deft, long-developing layers of fruit that reveal themselves severally.

In 2019, Chris Pearmund worked with sixteen Virginia wineries to create a blended wine with grapes from each participating vineyard to commemorate the 400th Anniversary of Winemaking in Virginia. A portion of the wine’s proceeds were donated to museums and events that would contribute to tourism in the Commonwealth and foster a broader understanding of Virginia’s cultures and cuisines. Saint-Aubin is situated in the heart of the Côte des Blancs, between Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet; both white and red wines are produced here but Chardonnay remains predominant. The Saint-Aubin appellation covers a wide area, with an altitude ranging from 300 to 450 meters, and with very varied expositions and soils, which makes each climat unique.
Saint-Aubin En Remilly is located in the south-east of Gamay, a hamlet near the village of Saint Aubin and next to the Puligny-Montrachet et Chassagne-Montrachet appellations. This area benefits from a south-western exposition.
The wine offers a pale yellow color, with gold nuances; a mineral nose, a dense texture on the palate, bringing together substance and tension.
Perfect as an aperitif, pairs very well with firm-textured fish or with shellfish.
