Wow, a super well-structured, vital wine with oodles of generous black fruit flavors on a firm frame that will help it age well and improve with time. Black cherries, blackberries, blueberries, forest floor nuances and a slight smoky, stemmy character from using mostly Calera-clone grapes, with 15% whole clusters and 30% new French oak. Great interplay between layered fruit and a fresh, crunchy texture. Drinkable now, but best from 2030.

Thorn Clarke Shotfire Reserve Shiraz is made from 100 percent Shiraz.
Inky purple-red in color with intense depth to the rim. Aromas of sweet rich fruit and lifted cedar oak fill the glass. Abundant blackberry, violets and cigar box roll through the profile adding complexity and interest. The palate is round and silky with dark plum, liquorice, briar and blackberry primary fruits. The rich, toasty oak, and fleshy rounded tannins complete the palate of this dense, flowing wine. This poised and powerful wine is drinking amazingly well but with it's density and presence will cellar impeccably well.
Selected parcels of estate fruit were de-stemmed into our open fermenters and seeded with yeast. The ferments were pumped over twice daily to maximise color, tannin and flavor extraction. The temperature controlled fermenters allowed the ferments remain in the 22-25 °C range giving amazing fruit expression in the wine. Each parcel was pressed after a minimum of seven days fermenting on skins. The wine completed both primary and ML fermentation in tank before being filled to American oak hogsheads (300Ltrs) to mature. This comes off four blocks in the Barossa, and is made in years that are considered worthy. In this case, it's very worthy. Deep purply-red colors. The aroma is immediately captivating with its dark chocolatey fruits, a little mocha, and a touch of cedar. Engaging stuff. And then the palate starts to deliver with its dark plummy richness, a little bit of that licorice nuance and some bright fruity blackberry characters. The oak and tannins have been expertly managed ensuring the wine is perfectly balanced to suit drinking now if you wish, but with the obvious characters to support extended cellaring. - Ray JORDAN"
