North Mountain Vineyard and Winery was established in 1982. All grapes are estate grown and the wines are estate produced. Our winemaker strives to present a unique array of elegant wines exclusive to our vineyard’s terroir.
We are open year-round, Wednesday – Sunday from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm, for wine tastings/flights and purchases. We welcome groups and buses. Please contact us for pricing for groups of 10 or more.
The charming European architecture of the winery building is the perfect setting for continental special events, cuisine, and celebrations. Our elegant and cozy Tasting Room with fire place offers tastings of our unique wines. The Great Room allows North Mountain’s guests to enjoy an atmosphere of European comfort while sipping wine by the fireplace while the gift shop offers unique gifts and local artistry. We are dog friendly! Pets are welcome on leash inside the winery, on our decks, and on our lawns. Please bring a water bowl. The expansive lawns and lovely picnic areas welcome families to sit, relax, and enjoy the day. We have prepackaged light fare for sale in the Tasting Room to be enjoyed on the decks, in the Great Room, or on the grounds. Please feel welcome to bring a picnic from home. For special event days with food trucks, we ask that you patronize the food truck vendor rather than bringing outside food to help support the local economy. The lovely flower gardens invite visitors to stroll and take pictures. Bring your camera!
Please check our Events page for upcoming special events such as celebrations, wine and food pairings, festivals, and live music performed by talented local musicians.
We look forward to meeting each of you!

Babylons Peak Pinotage is made from 100 percent Pinotage.
Babylon's Peak winery, situated on the highest weathered granite slopes of the Paardeberg Mountain, is privately owned by the Basson family who has passed down the tradition, passion and art of winemaking over four generations. Predominantly low-yield dryland bushvines are selected to produce these excellent wines with distinctive character.
Dark red color, with ripe plums and mocha on the nose. Dark fruit followed by spice on the palate. A well balanced wine with smooth integrated tannins.
The Pinotage is dryland bushvines, planted on the highest south-east facing granite slopes on the farm. Due to its unique terroir, this vineyard ripens slowly over a very long period. This results in very dark color, soft tannins and good flavor compounds. The baboons normally harvest their quantity first and we pick the rest.
The grapes were harvested by hand at 25,6°B.and destalked only. No crushing was done. Cold maceration was done before fermentation started in open fermenters. The grapes fermented between 24-26°C for 5-7 days, after which the wine was taken to barrels where it went through malolactic fermentation. After malolactic fermentation was completed, the wine spent 12 months in 225 liter French oak barrels until bottling.
Pairs with lamb, bobotie and braaied red meat.
