Featuring a variety of elevations, exposures, soils and microclimates, our Estate provides fruit uncommon quality and character for Priest Ranch wines.
Priest Ranch embodies the essence of Napa Valley, from the trailblazing mindset of its first pioneers to today's spirit of agricultural excellence and preservation. Inspired by James Joshua Priest, one of the original settlers in the area, Priest Ranch is dedicated to producing estate farmed wines of uncommon quality and character.
We believe that all great wines are a reflection of the land itself. For Priest Ranch wines, Winemaker & Co-founder Craig Becker draws on the diverse vineyards throughout our property for the distinctive and unique characteristics afforded in its fruit through the variety of elevations, exposures, soils, and microclimates.
The original Priest Ranch estate was established in 1869 by James Joshua Priest, a Gold Rush prospector. In 2004, we purchased this historic, 660 acre property and combined it with a 955 acre estate in Elder Valley – together creating our current Somerston Estate.
Today, our 1,615-acre estate is farmed with 230 acres of producing vineyards, in 15 distinct sites, encompassing over 180 different varietal blocks. Located high on the eastern hill of the Vaca Mountains above St. Helena, the estates’ varied range in elevations, exposures, soils, and microclimates allow us to create wines which showcase distinct expressions of its diverse terroir.
At Somerston Estate we employ intentional and leadership-driven viticulture and viniculture practices, borne of the pioneering spirit of our agrarian heritage. We subscribe to the challenge of cultivated excellence, seeking simplicity and preserved integrity at all times.

Broad strokes of black mulberries, crème de cassis, and juniper accelerate through the mid-palate with captivating width and focus. This thrilling dance culminates in a stunning finish of opulent and elegant dark fruits that persist with each sip, leaving an indelible impression of the near-perfect growing season that shaped the Fortuna Vineyard—full of power and sinue—and Leopoldina Vineyard—full of poise and intention—in the 2021 vintage.
"Stunning stuff, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Black Label offers a full-bodied, deep, majestic style as well as beautiful aromatics of cr me de cassis, violets, flowers, and nicely integrated background oak. It has ultra-fine tannins, flawless balance, and a regal, age-worthy style that has so much to love. It, however, is not going to be for the instant gratification crowd and this actually shut down pretty quickly with air. I would hide bottle for 4-6 years and it s going to cruise over the following two decades in cold cellars."

When we set out to produce Pinot Noir at Donelan Family Wines, we wanted to make a wine that embraces our favorite aspects of great Pinot from Sonoma County. The journey has taken us to the Two Brothers Pinot Noir where we believe terroir and technique have met at a beautiful crossroads. The composition of the Two Brothers wine is rooted heavily in Bennett Valley and Russian River Valley lending spice and earth to the nose, while the Sonoma Coast fruit gives an aromatic lift to the wine and brings length to the palate.
Named after siblings Tripp and Cushing Donelan, the Two Brothers Pinot Noir has become a fan favorite of our customers. It’s an extremely versatile wine. For one, it’s ready to drink upon release, but will also age beautifully for years if you throw a few bottles in your cellar. Our preferred food pairing with the Two Bros is always a game bird. Turkey, wings, quail, dove, or duck recipes are all super complimentary with this Pinot Noir’s dark fruit, spice, and freshness. We tend to recommend this wine for Thanksgiving every year.
Aromas recall a bouquet of rose petals and gingersnaps. A full, fleshy mouth-feel on the mid-palate with a beautiful fruit composition of plum sauce, cranberries, and fresh flowers.
Review:
Always a super-expressive wine, and in 2023 it truly delivers, showing pure, vibrant red fruit laced with brown baking spices and smoky clove. The palate is beautifully deep and penetrating, carrying impressive flavour intensity through to a long, mineral-driven, medium-bodied finish. Apple-skin tannins and savoury brown spice notes linger effortlessly, giving the wine both grip and persistence. Two Brothers is sourced from prime vineyard sites across Sonoma County, including Mardikian, Devoto, Bucher and Klopp in the Russian River Valley, along with Henry David Vineyard in Bennett Valley. The wine undergoes native fermentation, with 39% new French oak, and is aged for 17 months, incorporating approximately 16% whole clusters. - Jonathan CRISTALDI"
