The Château overlooks the Dordogne valley above the village of Castillon-la-Bataille, adjacent to its prestigious neighbour Saint Emilion, only 8 km away. The vineyards are planted on the upper part of predominantly south facing slopes which provide excellent natural drainage and optimum exposure to the sun.
The origins of the estate date back to the early 15th century, not long before the famous battle of Castillon took place in 1453, which ended the Hundred-Years war between the English and the French. With the two other major events that occurred the same year (invention of printing by Gutenberg in Germany, fall of Constantinople in Turkey), most historians consider 1453 to mark the endof the Middle Ages and the beginning of the Renaissance. Highlighting the property’s historical significance, each summer, the estate pays host to the re-enactment of this battle, an epic spectacle with 600 actors and cavaliers.
Château Castegens and its vineyard have been in the same family for 160 years. Curator of the tradition of excellence within the Appellation, the current owner, Baron Jean-Louis de Fontenay, since 1994, has been continuously elected by his peers the Grand Master of the « Confrérie des Chevaliers des Côtes de Castillon ».

Argot Bastard Tongue Pinot Noir is made from 100 percent Sonoma Pinot Noir.
Inheriting an unbroken string of success, the “Bastard Tongue” arrives fully-formed and ready to impress. Always a blend from multiple Pinot Noir vineyards, this iteration of “BT” was selected from three distinct sites, each making their own unique contribution of Sonoma County terroir to the wine’s character.
Exploding forth on a tidal wave of high-toned, intense red and black fruits, this is a Pinot Noir that no stemware can contain. The palate’s profound depth is balanced by an inherent freshness, allowing the wine to crackle with brambly energy, while sustained by bass notes of underbrush, black tea, pie spice and baker’s chocolate. A formidable rendition of “Bastard Tongue”, and a deserving successor to its line.
Night harvested by hand throughout September, cluster and berry sorted by hand, de-stemmed, no crushing. 7-day cold soaks, followed by native fermentation in open-top bins. Average time on the skins, 14 days. Aging 20 months in French oak, 100% new. Never racked prior to bottling. Bottled unfined, unfiltered.
Very versatile for pairing. Goes well with grilled meat, vegetable, fish, poultry and cheese.
Review:
Pale to medium ruby-purple in color, the 2020 Pinot Noir Bastard Tongue comes bounding out with energetic notes of black cherry compote, black raspberries, and pomegranate with a beautiful undercurrent of violets and dark chocolate. The full-bodied palate is vibrant and pure, with fine-grained tannins and a lively backbone, finishing very long and perfumed. This is perhaps the best 2020 Pinot I've tasted!

After working with the fruit for over a decade, Turkey is proud to present the first single-vineyard bottling for Turley from the Del Barba Vineyard. Contra Costa is a delta where the San Joaquin and Sacramento rivers meet, and these head-trained vines are planted in deep dehli blow sand, made up of decomposed granite coming down from the Sierra Mountains. The resulting wine embodies the best the delta has to offer: silken textures, ultra fine tannin, and dark saline fruits.
