Viura is a white grape variety also known as Macabeo. In Rioja, the name Viura is used. While Spain is the original origin of Viura and is used in Riojas, Malvasia, Garancha Blanca, and Parellada, the grape can also be found throughout Southern France as well, where it is known as Maccabeu. Viura is mostly used in sparkling wines, with dry and sweet characteristics. Viura allows for fragrant floral notes and quite crisp (grapefruit) on the palate when picked early. If harvested later, the Viura juice is fuller bodied with notes of honey and nut. Viura is extremely popular in Catalonia’s Cava sparkling wines and is the main grape type in Rioja’s white wines. In France, Viura is used in white wines and sparklings of the Languedoc-Roussillon region, such as Corbieres, Minervois, Banyuls, and Maury. Viura is used mainly as a blending agent there. Viura is highly impervious to oxidation due to the high content of Resveratrol. This factor, combined with Rioja’s tradition of blending a certain amount of white grapes to their red wines, makes Viura an ideal component.

Review:
"Lots of cooked pear with some apple and lemon curd. It’s medium-bodied with good fruit and a delicious finish. Creamy texture. Drink now."

"Bright straw-yellow. Mineral-accented pear, peach pit and Meyer lemon aromas are complemented by hints of fennel and vanilla. Taut and focused on the palate, offering nervy citrus and orchard fruit flavors that spread out steadily on the back half. Finishes long and tight, with a repeating mineral note and a lingering bitter pear skin note. - Josh Raynolds"

"Parcels with an average age of 58 years supply the grapes for this stylishly wooded blend of Viura with 10% Malvasía. Dense, but not overpowering, with lime and orange peel flavours, subtle oak spices and a waxy mid palate. Drink 2022 to 2025."

Niner Wine Estates Pinot Noir is made from 100 percent Pinot Noir.
Jespersen Ranch’s foggy mornings and coastal breezes create perfect growing conditions for Pinot Noir. After hand-harvesting the grapes, we fermented them in small, stainless steel, open-top tanks. About ¼ of the fermentations included a whole-cluster component, which adds a delicate tannin structure, spice and length to the wine. The 2020 vintage includes only the highest quality, free-run juice aged for 10 months in French Oak barrels. The wine is full of red fruit flavors, with a bright and juicy palate underscored by warming potpourri, spice and clay flavors.
VINEYARD Jespersen Ranch is located four miles from the ocean, tucked into the hillsides in the western corner of the Edna Valley. We farm seven different clones of Pinot Noir at this coastal site and it produces wines full of layered flavors, rich color and ample acidity. The 2020 vintage was unforgettable. In the early days of the pandemic the vineyard was a fantastic respite, with mild weather and lucky March rainfall that produced large vine canopies. Moderate Summer weather was then followed up by heat spikes and the California wildfires in early Fall. Thankfully, the vine’s large canopies helped shield the grapes from the heat, and our vineyard escaped the effects of smoke taint and we hand-harvested all of our Pinot Noir in September.
WINEMAKING We have a second winery situated behind our tasting room that is dedicated to our Pinot Noir program. The 2020 vintage was comprised of the highest quality, free-run juice and we aged the wine for 10 months in French Oak barrels. Boira' Pinot Grigio is made from certified organically farmed vineyards surrounding the city of Verona.
The wine shows a brilliant straw color with golden reflections. Fresh and floral bouquet with a hint of pears, apricots and bananas blended with intense aromas of acacia flowers. Fresh and inviting on the palate with bright fruit and an easy drinking style with a pleasing hint of almonds in the aftertaste.
The average age of the vines is 25 years old. The vineyards' soils are made of stoney calcareous, rich in minerals and fossils that gives this wine bright aromatics and a refreshing lift on the palate. After a 12-hour skin maceration to obtain enhanced aromas, the wine is fermented in stainless steel. The finished wine is placed in stainless steel holding tanks until bottled. Aged 3-4 months in stainless steel.
Pairs well with seafood dishes.
