Product Description
Pinot Noir is clearly the dedication of the Hartl Winery.
Strong garnet red, tending a little more towards brick-colored at the edge. On the nose, a complex abundance of herbs and dark berries, raspberry jam, thyme blossoms, dill, sage, violets and marzipan. Juicy on the palate, aromas of ripe raspberries, blueberries, rosehip tea and Mediterranean herbs, as well as hints of Assam tea. The elegant acidity gives a firm framework for the powerful body and highlights the fine-grained tannins. In addition to its classic ripe, typical Pinot fruit, the wine shows subtle notes of toast and smoked bacon in the long finish.
Pair with veal roast, leg of lamb with thyme and lemon, grilled Mediterranean vegetables, wild fowl like pheasant wrapped in bacon or duck with orange zest, prunes, roasted pumpkin and root vegetables.

The 2022 Pinot Noir Kräutergarten hails from calcareous alluvial soils. It fermented spontaneously with 40% whole bunches and 40% whole berries in open cuvées, following cold maceration. The wine matured in 20% new small oak, while the rest was in used small barrels. Just a touch of oaky toastiness precedes beautifully pure red cherry notes on its subtle nose. The palate is smooth, fine, pure, elongated and slender, with savory Pinot fruit tones.

The winery carrys the name of the owner's family. It has been in the Hartl family for generations and winemaking has been in the region for centuries, dating back to roman times. As a traditional family business, Heinrich III is the seventh' generation winemaker in charge today. His parents still support him greatly, as well as his wife Marie-Sophie. Their children grow up on the property and learn about organic farming from their young days on.

The 2023 Pinot Noir Ried Graf Weingartl comes from a highly active limestone parcel within the Kräutergarten site. Whole, uncrushed berries were fermented with 40% whole bunches. Extraction and pressing were gentle, followed by 18 months in French

. Ripe red cherry on the nose is resonant, streaked with brighter berries and accompanied by a smooth, mellow creaminess that remains exquisitely aromatic. Brightness, firmness, translucency and graceful structure define the palate. Tannins are fine and like starched silk. Everything shines and remains fresh. A wonderful high-wire act between ethereal aromatics and elegant, taut structure. Lasting length proves the point. (Bone-dry)

Argot Bastard Tongue Pinot Noir is made from 100 percent Sonoma Pinot Noir.
Inheriting an unbroken string of success, the “Bastard Tongue” arrives fully-formed and ready to impress. Always a blend from multiple Pinot Noir vineyards, this iteration of “BT” was selected from three distinct sites, each making their own unique contribution of Sonoma County terroir to the wine’s character.
Exploding forth on a tidal wave of high-toned, intense red and black fruits, this is a Pinot Noir that no stemware can contain. The palate’s profound depth is balanced by an inherent freshness, allowing the wine to crackle with brambly energy, while sustained by bass notes of underbrush, black tea, pie spice and baker’s chocolate. A formidable rendition of “Bastard Tongue”, and a deserving successor to its line.
Night harvested by hand throughout September, cluster and berry sorted by hand, de-stemmed, no crushing. 7-day cold soaks, followed by native fermentation in open-top bins. Average time on the skins, 14 days. Aging 20 months in French oak, 100% new. Never racked prior to bottling. Bottled unfined, unfiltered.
Very versatile for pairing. Goes well with grilled meat, vegetable, fish, poultry and cheese.

A dark red hue, the 2022 Pinot Noir Bastard Tongue is more floral in this vintage, with notes of blackberries, black raspberries, violets, and mossy earth. Generous on the palate, it’s fresh and inviting. It has a lovely lift, and I prefer this vintage. While it has warmth on the finish, it’s well managed. Drink over the next 10-12 years.

Cristom Vineyards was founded in 1992 by the Gerrie family in the Eola-Amity Hills of Oregon's Willamette Valley, farming their east-facing volcanic hillside biodynamically and organically. Their single-vineyard Pinot Noirs, each named for a woman in the family, are Willamette benchmarks.
Louise Vineyard, planted by the Gerrie family in 1993, sits on the slopes immediately around the winery. It gives a woodsy, higher-toned expression of Eola-Amity Hills Pinot Noir — mossy earth, red fruit and Asian spice over a chiseled, age-worthy frame — from the balanced, classically cool 2022 season.

Most diverse soils on the property the Louise is the only site without 100% volcanic soils. The warmest site on the property, protected from the Van Duzer winds from a horseshoe of forest is about radiance of warmth for winemaker Estrin. This site can get big fast, so he picks them a bit earlier than the others and has to pay attention to the extraction, exotic spice aromatics, Chinese five spice and Oolong tea. This is a bit more broad-shouldered and the tannins intimate that this will go the distance. The palate leans into savoury spice, with black tea, wild anise blackberries and mint. Brooding and elegant.

The 2023 Nickel & Nickel Truchard Chardonnay opens with enticing aromatics of tropical fruit, tangerine, and a hint of honeysuckle. On the palate, it presents a bright and vibrant profile, with a natural lift from its fresh fruit flavors and lively acidity. The tropical and citrus notes are complemented by a subtle brioche character, while the oak imparts a pleasant roundness, bringing balance and weight to the wine.

Winemaker Joe Harden ages his Truchard Vineyard Chardonnay for 10 months in 30% new French oak, with minimal stirring and no malolactic fermentation, allowing for a slightly more pronounced oak presence. Truchard, one of Carneros' most esteemed sites, is characterised by rolling hills with ideal sun exposure and cooling breezes. Harden sources fruit from eight distinct blocks across the vineyard’s expansive 109 hectares, with harvests spanning roughly a month. Among the selections is Clone 809, a Muscat clone that adds floral aromatics and a touch of baking spice. The Truchard Chardonnay exhibits a silky texture on the palate, layered with citrus peel and tropical hints of apricot and peach. A rich spine of acidity is further heightened by vivid mineral tension, creating a wine that is both racy and rich. Elegantly balanced, it’s a delightful sipper with impressive depth and vibrancy.

"Nickel & Nickel's Berlenbach Vineyard Chardonnay was aged 10 months in 20% new French oak, with minimal stirring and no malolactic fermentation. The grapes were sourced from the 7ha Berlenbach site, owned by the Far Niente family, located on the east side of Coombsville with a picturesque western exposure. The vineyard's soils consist of volcanic ash, gravel, and well-draining loam, making it the coolest site they harvest from—a characteristic reflected in the wine's vibrant freshness. The finished wine exhibits crisp, crunchy acidity and a cool, wet slate minerality. Elegant baking spice notes intermingle with crunchy yellow apple, firm, ripe pear, and subtle wildflower nuances. A hint of mountain grass and crushed salted Marcona almonds adds depth to the medium-bodied finish, making this Chardonnay both refined and expressive."
