Wine from Jumilla

Jumilla is a wine region in Spain. The DO, known as Spanish Denominacion de Origen for wines extends over the region just north of Murcia. This also includes the municipality of Jumilla, and the southeast of the Albacete province. To date there are 32,000 hectares of vines under the Jumilla region. 45% of those grapes are Murcia, and 55% are Albacete. Jumilla has 3,000 grape-growers currently registered in the DO.
The climate in Jumilla is continental featuring cold winters and very hot and long summers. So close to the Mediterranean Sea, the wine region of Jumilla is arid and has very little rainfall, which averages about 33 mm per year. The irregular precipitation usually occurs during fall and spring. Severe rain and thunderstorms hit the region during the fall and spring and could cause damage to the vines. The annual average temperature is 16°C although occasionally a maximum of 40°C can be reached during the summer months. During the winter it is not uncommon to see temperatures hit well below 0° C. Frost can occur during March and April. The grape vines get well over 3,000 hours of sunlight every year.
Other crops that are grown in the wine region of Jumilla include olives, and fruit trees. The region’s most popular grape is Monastrell.

Lismore Pinot Noir is made from 100 percent Pinot Noir
Complex bouquet of crushed rose petals, wild jasmine and fresh French herbs followed by a palate full of cranberry, raspberry and a long savory finish.
The grapes were picked at optimal ripeness. 30% whole bunch fermented in large 5000 liter vats with gentle pump-overs twice a day. The process allowed for a long extraction period which lends to the fruit expression and structure of this wine. The free run wine was drained off and the fermented grapes were then pressed in a traditional wooden basket press. The wine was racked into 225, 300 and 500 liter barrels where malolactic fermentation took place and the wine was aged for 10 months. 35% new French oak was used.

"The 2018 Pinot Noir comes from Walker Bay and Kaaimansgat and includes 30% whole-bunch fruit, aged for 11 months in 25% new oak. The bouquet sports vivid red cherry and raspberry fruit that is exceptionally well defined and beautifully integrated with the oak. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, well-judged acidity and a slightly fleshy texture. There is just the right amount of salinity here, and the finish is kept on a tight leash, allowing the detail and precision to be fully expressed. "Walker Bay and Elandskloof are the twin sources of 30% whole bunch-fermented Pinot from Sam O'Keefe. Juicy, floral and charming, it's a graceful, fruit forward style with some clove and tobacco spice and refreshing acidity. Ayni Malbec Paraje Altamira is made from 100 percent Malbec.
Ayni is the Quechua term for the principle of reciprocity, practiced for centuries by the Andean people - "in order to receive, you first have to give." Chakana's renowned Paraje Altamira vineyard, which sits 3,300 feet above sea level, bears the name Ayni & is the source of the Ayni wines.
Deep ruby-red in color with violet hints. Complex and intense bouquet, featuring blackberries, cherries and plums, with delicate floral notes and spices. Balanced and fresh; full-bodied with good length of spices.
Pairs well with grilled meats and stews.
