Mendoza is one of the most important wine regions in Argentina and accounts for almost two-thirds of the entire wine production in the country. Mendoza is located in the eastern foothills of the Andes Mountains and is shadowed by Mount Aconcagua. The vineyards are planted 1,500 feet above sea level, which are some of the highest altitudes in grape growth. Vines arrived at the beginning of the Spanish colonization from Peru. It wasn’t until the late 19th to early 20th century that Mendoza experienced a huge wine-boom turning it into the fifth largest wine growing region in the world. After the railroad was established in 1885, connecting Argentina and Buenos Aires, more vineyards were developed in Mendoza. Mendoza vineyards grew from 1,000 hectares in 1830, to 45,000 in 1910. Mendoza has a continental climate with semi-arid desert conditions. The wine region enjoys four distinct seasons with no temperature extremes. Rainfall averages about 8” per year meaning that irrigation is a necessity. Mendoza primarily consists of alluvial soil that is composed of loose sand over clay. The mountain rivers provide adequate water supply from the melting glaciers in the nearby Andes. Irrigation channels, dating back to the 16th century, help the viticulture in Mendoza.

Deep ruby red color with violet tones. Aromas of red fruit, plum, graphite and floral notes. The palate is round and balanced, with sweet and juicy tannins.
Review:
Tight, intense and layered, this full-bodied wine can be appreciated now for its cocoa, blueberry and blackcurrant flavors, but will surely improve and gain complexity with time. Aged in 20% new oak, mostly barriques. Very fine-grained tannins wrap around deep blue and black fruit, with spearmint and dark chocolate buoyed by good acidity and showing great minerality in the finish. Best from 2028.

Deep color of violet and black tones. On the nose, it shows aromas of black tea, violets, blueberries and dark berries. It presents freshness, fine grain tannins and minerality on the palate.

Deep red in color, the Zuccardi Finca Piedra Infinita Altamira expresses great fruity character with notes of red fruit. Grand structure and acidity on the palate with mineral with notes of wet stone and graphite and a long finish.

Quiet complexity that needs time in the glass. While it is brooding and deep, there is also a perfumed, floral and herbal aspect that makes it so attractive and unforgettable, even at such an embryonic stage. Freshly crushed blueberries, dried licorice, decadent violets, crushed stones and ash on the nose. Satin-textured tannins on the palate, which are tense, chalky and seamless. Powerful and juicy with impeccable balance. A great, cerebral and intrinsic malbec from Argentina. You can drink now, if you want, but it is a wine that you’d want to keep for the next two decades. A real charmer, especially for the wine nerds. Buy this and try!

Review:
Dick Boushey is the high priest of Syrah growers in Washington state for a reason, and it's all on display here at the deft hand of winemaker Chris Peterson. Dried lavender florals and notes of thyme, anise and wild oregano dance around alpine mountain berries and juniper. The palate shows notes of chicory root spice, smoky clove, and salted blood orange vibrance, lifts the mid-palate and finishes with mouthfuls of blueberries, thyme and black tea.
