Under the canopy of the massive Pinea tree in the heart of Spain’s legendary Ribera del Duero winemaking region, PINEA founders and longtime friends Vicente Pliego and Hugo T. Del Pozzo had an inspiring conversation that led to an epiphany: that their calling was to use the magnificent characteristics of this land to produce one of the best wines in the world.
We feel deep respect and love for nature and the land where our vines grow. We appreciate nature’s wisdom and value its harmony, its biorhythm.
Accordingly, every step of PINEA’s winemaking process is anchored by utmost attention to detail on the vineyard and a rich knowledge of centuries-old traditions.
At nature’s perfect time, our grapes are delicately selected and hand cut, placed into small baskets to prevent even the slightest disturbance and de-stemmed by hand. Our non-interventionist vinification allows the fruit to be the star and truly speak as a testament to simple truths, elemental pedigree

The founders’ desire to produce one of the best wines in the world results in a clear objective: to awaken your senses and soul. To achieve this, the founders recruited passionate winemaking artisans led by master oenologist Isaac Fernandez, arguably the best winemaker in Spain.
“Isaac is one of Spain’s brightest young winemaking stars.”

Louis Barruol describes the microclimate of the vineyard Malleval as “very cold” which allows the grapes to retain acidity and showcase the floral aromas of the local Sérine variety. Aromas and flavors of blackberries and wild strawberries are accented by notes of peppercorns, tobacco, peonies, and violets.
Syrah, with its deep flavors and firm tannins, is a natural match for grilled or smoked meat and dishes featuring herbs, roasted mushrooms, and onions. Seared venison or beef with black pepper and thyme or a Moroccan tagine of pigeon or chicken are complimented by the spicy characteristic of Syrah.
Review:
This rich and impeccably balanced Gigondas has everything we look for in the wines of this appellation. What a wide spectrum of aromas with everything from raspberry to candied orange, plus a slew of delicate spicy notes and fresh Mediterranean herbs. I love the interplay of richness, fine tannins and lively acidity on the generous, but not expansive palate. Very long, refined finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Powerful, with steeped plum and cherry coulis merging with potpourri and charred garrigue on a ripe, lush palate. Packs a wall of iron that provides a ballast for the ripe fruit, while refined tannins build in intensity. Long and complex, with a gorgeous expression of place. Grenache, Mourve`dre, Syrah and Cinsault.

Just south of the winery, Bacigalupi Vineyard straddles Westside Road in the upper reach of Russian River Valley. The 125 acre vineyard encompasses a range of terroir, from heavier valley floor soil along the Russian River to alluvial clay loam on the rolling hillsides. The fruit is sourced from a superb block of 25 year-old Wente Clone vines located on the western slope of the site. Bacigalupi was the source of the Chateau Montelena Chardonnay that, famously, beat the French wines at the "Judgement of Paris" in 1976.
Bacigalupi Chardonnay has a nose of lemon zest and vanilla bean. The palate opens with red pear and Meyer lemon, and brioche toast and honey comb notes on the finish. Like well-made Chardonnay from great vineyards around the world this wine benefits from getting some air, will age for years, and is best when served chilled around 50 degrees. This wine will evolve in the bottle for many years to come. A terrific wine from one of Sonoma County's top sites for Chardonnay.
