Sancerre is a region located in the eastern part of France. It is one of Loire valley where grapes grown and wine are produced. The region has cool climate and chalky soils. Until the late 19th century, Pinot Noir grape is the main grape product in Sancerre. Red wine from Pinot Noir grape is commonly produced.
In the late 19th century, killer bugs plagued the vineyards. These bugs were known to inject their poisonous saliva in grapevines that intended to kill the grapes and devastate the vineyards. The vineyard crisis was called phylloxera. After the devastation, locals replanted grapes in the form of Sauvignon Blanc.
Sauvignon Blanc became the ideal choice of grapes as it works well with Sancerre’s cool climate. The grape grew popular and white wine is produced thereafter. Now, Sancerre produces red and rose wine from Pinot Noir and white wine from Sauvignon Blanc.

Rob and Danny harness an organic natural approach to the vineyard that exemplifies the beautifully, unique attributes of this site.
Linear and precise, the 2016 M by Michael Mondavi opens with expressive aromas of quince, plum, juniper, cassis, blackberry & dark roasted coffee beans. With time and swirls of air, notes of dried rose petals, coriander, cinnamon and clove develop. This wine enters the palate with subtle tannins at first, and soon broadens into a silky expanse of vanilla bean, cocoa, roasted dates, black cherry, and orange blossom tea. The evolution of flavors continues with candied figs, bramble-berry, and cocoa covered strawberries. Alain Jaume Chateauneuf Du Pape Rouge Vieux Terron is made from 85% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre
An intense purple color is followed by ripe red fruit aromas, such as sweet black cherry.
The palate reveals clearly the aromatic complexity: spices and black fruit are boasted with soft tannins. The finish is long with aromatic hints of liquorice and pepper. Red raspberries, star anise and hints of cinnamon.
It will accompany game, red meat or meat in sauce and strong cheeses.
Soil types
Châteauneuf du Pape vineyards are mostly located on plateaux. Stony-clay soil covered with large rolled stones. Some plots are more sandy.
Winemaking and aging
Harvest is destemmed and crushed. Fermentation temperature is controlled at 30°C. Vatting period of 18 to 21 days. Matured in vats (80%) and oak casks (20%).
