Located in Ciudad Real, which is a province in Castile-La Mancha, Valdepenas is a wine region that is surrounded by La Mancha, which is an independent region with a very long history as far as wine making is concerned. Known for mixing red and white grapes, the most well-loved vineyards are located in Los Llanos in the western part of the region, and Las Aberturas which is located in the north or Valdepenas. There are 29,600 hectares of vines in the region.
The continental climate in the region is quite extreme with cold winters and very hot summers. Classified as semi-arid the temperatures can reach up to 104° in the summer and are considered semi-arid. During the winter it is not unusual for the mercury to drop to 14°. Drought is not unusual during the warmer months, while frosts can occur during the late spring and early fall.
The region is located on top of a plateau, and surrounded by lush hills. The soil in Valdepenas has a high lime content, and is on top of a subsoil of calcium carbonate meaning good moisture retaining properties. The soil is poor in organic matter, and very pebbly. It is shallow and dark red in color with a high lime content, which often forms hard crusty layers that have to be broken up to help the roots penetrate.

The Grade Cabernet Sauvignon Serpent's Back Napa Valley is made from 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon.
Review:
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Serpent's Back shows a more aromatic, high-toned side of this site. Bright red/purplish berry fruit, pomegranate, cinnamon and sweet floral accents are all laced together. The Serpent's Back is the most refined of these three Cabernets, but it has plenty of Calistoga punch.

Silver Oak Cellars Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is made from 76.61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18.13% Merlot, 2.56% Cabernet Franc, 2.32% Petit Verdot, 0.38% Malbec.
Expressive and lively on the nose, the 2019 Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has a black cherry and huckleberry aroma laced with dry floral notes. Integrated oak adds a light note of sweet nutmeg to this wine. Ruby in color, it has a fruit-forward entry with silky tannins that builds across the mid-palate and through a long and balanced finish. Structured while still approachable, this wine remains true to the signature Silver Oak winemaking style and will continue to improve through 2047 given proper cellaring conditions.
Review:
A beautifully compact wine that delivers complex and nuanced aromas of Bing cherry and black raspberry with tobacco, currant leaf, and cedarwood laced with dried sage. Cool raspberry, cherry, and blackberry fruit are perfectly represented, and the lengthy finish is crisp, lively, and energetic.
