Located in northeastern Italy, Veneto is a wine region and part of a group of three productive wine regions known as the Venezie, named after the ancient Venetian Republic. Veneto is the largest DOC producer of the group.
Veneto is protected from the harsh European climate by the alps, which form the foothills of the of Veneto’s northern extremes. The cooler temperatures are well suited to white grape varieties such as Garganega, which is the predominant grape for Soave wines. The warm river valleys and Adriatic coastal areas are where Bardolino, Amarone, and Valpolicella DOC reds are produced.
The growers in Veneto are much more modern than other regions in Italy, while the majority of the classic wines are based on grape varieties like Verduzzo and Glera, which is now called Prosecco. Veneto wines are in high demand in the US and European markets with producers experimenting with Pinot, Chardonnay, and Cabernet varieties.
In land mass, Veneto is the eighth largest region in the country and has over 90,000 hectares of vineyards. The region produces 8,500,000 hectoliters with white wine accounting for 55%.
In 1885, the first oenology and vine growing school opened in Veneto strengthening the importance of wine making in the region.

The Opus One 2018 offers profuse aromas of blackberry, cassis, and black cherry. Elegant notes of violets, white pepper and rose petals follow and together they deliver a very seductive bouquet. The seamlessly layered flavors build to a crescendo of fresh and juicy black-fruit, accented with hints of orange zest, licorice and dark chocolate. Beautifully balanced, the smooth round tannins and fresh acidity combine to create a soft, creamy mouthfeel and extend the flavors into a long persistent finish.

Extremely perfumed and floral with lavender, lilacs and violets to the sweet, ripe berries, such as blackberries and blackcurrants. Some slate and graphite, too. It’s full-bodied, yet ever so balanced and refined, with super fine tannins that last for minutes. Fresh herbs, such as bay leaf and lemon grass highlight the dark fruit. The quality of tannin is exquisite with wonderful polish and refinement. Lasts for minutes. So wonderful to taste now, but better after 2026.

Fayolle Crozes-Hermitage Rouge La Rochette is made from 25-year-old vines planted on loess and red granitic soils. 100% Syrah.
Deep ruby red color.
The wine has plenty to offer with red and black fruit aromas, as well as a good minerality.
The finish is long, clean and juicy and offers some white pepper spiciness typical of the best Crozes-Hermitage.
Soil type is red brittle granite and white soil.
Hand harvested in small crates. The grapes are then pumped into tanks (full cluster, not destemmed).
It will stay in this tank for 15 days for the skin contact maceration and the Alcoholic fermentation.
They will also use the "rack and return" technique (delestage).
Then the wine is transfered into neutral French Oak barrels where the wine will complete the Malo-Lactic fermentation.

"The 2022 Crozes-Hermitage La Rochette comes from a single lieu-dit and was aged 15 months entirely in French oak barrels averaging 20 years old. Ripe blackberries, black olive, iron, leather, and pepper all define the aromatics, and it's medium-bodied, with a supple, elegant mouthfeel and a great finish. It's going to have a solid decade of longevity."
