
The Vincent Sauvestre Estate
Vincent Sauvestre acquired Chateau La Galiniere in 2006. It is located in the town of Chateauneuf-le-Rouge. Managers Fabrice Arcari and his wife Aurelie are continuing a long and successful quality control, in the vineyards, thank to green harvest and in the cellar, using a sorting table in order to keep only the best grapes for the macerations. The winemaker is Daniel Peraldi.

In 2007, production was just less than 5000 kg per hectare. This wine is prepared with Tempranillo 100% grapes from our vineyards.
The grapes are initially subjected to a six-day pre-fermentation cold maceration below 14ºC. They then undergo 30 days of alcoholic fermentation at a controlled temperature of 28ºC, after which the wine is removed from the tanks without pressing the grape skins. The malolactic fermentation is slow and relaxed at a temperature of 20 ºC for 28 days without the addition of bacteria.
The wine is aged for18 months in new French oak barrels and is decanted into new barrels every six months. At the end of this period, the wine is blended and bottled without undergoing any type of filtration, clarification or cold treatment.
Prepared with Tempranillo grapes (100%), this wine has a ruby red colour with very pure, intense garnet tones.
Its bouquet has fine complexity with tones of ripened fruit, especially cherries, blue berries and black currants, which are in harmony with tones of good wood, spices (vanilla and coconut) and a liquorice undertone.
In the mouth, this wine displays great balance, proving pleasing to the taste, sweet due to the maturity of its tannins and exuberant on account of its pleasant level of acidity.

The 2019 Ribera del Duero Reserva is also terrific, with gorgeous aromatics of black and blue fruits supported by Asian spices, lead pencils, cedarwood, and violets. It's beautifully textured, medium to full-bodied, has a concentrated, powerful mouthfeel, and ripe, integrated tannins.

‘Le Caprice‘, as in “Capricious,” is an ode to the fickle nature of the Pinot Noir grape. Situated above sea level on steep mountain slopes, some exceeding 50 percent in grade, the vineyard faces east and northeast. It benefits from both the cooling influence of the Pacific Ocean to the west and the mild, sunny mountain climate. The soil of the vineyard is a composite of clay, silt, and volcanic gravels, which help the wine display polished tannins, body, and a hint of mineral graphite. ‘Le Caprice’ delivers the most pronounced profile of red fruit of our three estate Pinot Noir wines.
The Seaview Estate experienced an exceptionally wet winter with well above average rainfall and cooler-than-average temperatures into March which delayed budbreak by nearly a month. The weather during flowering was uneven and cool, giving rise to less fruit setting—slightly better than in 2022 but still only about 60% of a normal crop. Overall, the growing season was cooler than usual which continued through harvest. Harvest began a full month later than 2022 with the final blocks coming in on October 26th. The wines maintained a vibrant acidity with several blocks producing lower than average alcohol levels.

A brilliant mélange of red rose petals, black and red cherry, dried orange peel, candied plum, and blackberry soar from the glass of the 2023 'Le Caprice', embodying the terroir from the steepest vineyard blocks of our Seaview Estate. The lifted nose is framed by hints of baking spices and wild strawberries. The round, supple entry leads to a focused, juicy mid-palate with a long, smooth finish. The 2023 vintage is a seamless, classy, and harmonious expression of 'Le Caprice'.
Review:
A fresh, linear, eye-opening young wine that's delicious and appetizing, and will develop more complexity and nuance with time in the bottle. Stunning aromas of black cherries, vibrant raspberries and cedary spices lead to mouthwatering red cherry, cranberry, star anise and mineral flavors that expand on the palate.
