Viognier

Viognier

Viognier is a French white wine grape that is the only variety allowed for the wine Condrieu, which is produced in the French Rhone Valley. It is unsure where the variety originated, however, the grape is said to be an ancient variety that may have come from Croatia. Legends say that the Romans brought the variety to France, or may have brought the variety on a ship headed for France when it was captured near Condrieu. Researchers are also unsure where the name Viognier came from, but the closest comparison points to the city of Vienne, which was an outpost of the Roman Empire. The grape was widely grown but now it is a seldom planted variety that is grown mostly in northern Rhone. Viognier almost went extinct in 1965 when there were less than 10 acres of the vines planted in France. Today, Rhone has almost 800 acres of the variety available. The grape may be hard to grow because it is susceptible to mildew, can only be harvest when completely ripe, and the vines do not produce a predictable number of grapes. The wine is to be consumed while young because it loses its aromatic flavor as it grows in age. Viognier wines tend to be very flavorful and contain powerful fruit aromas, and pairs well with spicy foods.

Siegel Naranjo Orange Wine Viognier 2023

Siegel Naranjo Orange Wine Viognier is made from 100% Viognier.

This wine has a nice gold color with some pink hues. On the nose, it shows some sweet notes of spices, dry nuts, white flowers, as well as some light notes of huesillo (dry peaches). In the mouth it shows a beautiful acidity, with a nice mouthfeel and structure and a good length to the finish.

Pair with rich fish and meat dishes, cheeses, appetizer and dessert

Sunset Hills Shenandoah Springs Chardonnay 2017

Sunset Hills Shenandoah Springs Chardonnay is made from 100 percent Chardonnay.

This is our first release of a clone-specific wine for Sunset Hills. The goal is to show you a specific terroir, one that year after year delivers excellent fruit quality. I chose clone 96 for its complexity both in ripening and barrel aging. During ripening, the fruit has notes of pineapple and pear with great acidity. I saw this wine as a chance to highlight not only the vineyard, but how detailed we can get in growing and making wine.

100% Chardonnay:

75% Clone 96
20% Clone 76
5% Clone 17

Notes of light honeysuckle, Asian pear, raw almond, and lemon custard. Medium body and medium acid.

Trump Winery Viognier 2021

Trump Winery Viognier is made from 100 percent Viognier.

True to its variety, this wine has delicate floral notes and aromas of peach, honeysuckle, and tropical fruits. Barrel aging creates a palate that is round, elegant, and complex, giving the wine additional hints of vanilla and toast. Enjoy with roasted chicken, Asian dishes, poached seafood, and crabcakes.

Viejo Isaias Don Isaias Sparkling NV

Viejo Isaias Don Isaias Sparkling is made from 50% Chardonnay and 50% Chenin Blanc

Charmat method.

The wine is produced from grapes that grow in the highlands of the Mendoza River. Its second alcoholic fermentation with a prolonged contact with yeast brings complex aromas of stone fruits, such as white peach, and citrus aromas such as pink grapefruit and tropical pineapple. The palate reveals good acidity and freshness.
