The Walla Walla Valley region is considerably a remote region of Washington State. Nevertheless, it is popular for its large wineries and exceptional grape and wine production.
Situated within the Columbia Valley region, Walla Walla Valley has at least 1,600 acres of vineyards and 120 wineries. The region has rich history with volcanic and earthquake events that play a huge part on the exceptional growth of grapes. The combination of lava flows and floods that plagued Walla Walla Valley over the years lead to creation of soils rich in mineral deposits, water pot holes and sediments that enable various grapes to thrive.
Grapes did not begin in Walla Walla Valley until the 1850s when immigrants first settled in the region. Thereafter, grape growing has become a prominent aspect of the region. Cabernet Sauvignon is widely planted in Walla Walla Valley. Merlot, Syrah and Chardonnay come in secondary to Cabernet Sauvignon. They are followed by more grape varietals, such as Sangiovese, Grenache, Tempranillo, Pinot Gris and Viognier among many more.

It is not a secret the magnitude this wine can reach. In this vintage, femininity reigns supreme. Perfume, flowers, cassis. All anchored to sense of place with stone, ancient soil and chanterelles that make this wine a wine of the earth.
Review:
Kirsch, ripe black cherries, roasted herbs, violets, and orange blossom notes all emerge from the 2018 The Hidden Syrah Northridge Vineyard, which is all Syrah brought up in neutral oak. Rich, full-bodied, and beautifully polished, it packs loads of fruit yet stays light on its feet, with no sensation of heaviness. As with all of these Syrahs from Smith, it's going to benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age.

Philippe Melka, named one of the top nine winemakers in the world by Robert Parker, used small lots from Washington State's finest vineyards to craft this enticing red blend.
Like the last several growing seasons, 2016 was another hot year that required extra care in the vineyards. Building on the success of our canopy managment program over the last few vintages, we worked with growers throughout the season to encourage growth of the canes and outside foliage to protect against the sun while opening up the fruit zone for even maturation. Warm temperatures in the fall hastened ripening, but the Columbia Valley's cool autumn nights protected the grapes' acidity, yielding bright, vibrant wines that will drink well in their youth but also promise to bring enjoyement to those who cellar.
A variety of fermentation methods were used to enhance complexity and richness in this classic Bordeaux blend. Hand-harvested Cabernet was fermented in 400L French oak barrels that were gently rolled throughout fermentation to integrate the oak with refined, dark fruit flavors and give the wine its silky mouthfeel. All other varieties were fermented in traditional stainless steel tanks, with select lots enjoying longer skin contact to enhance the wine's dark color and mid-palate. The finished wine was aged 22 months in French oak barrels (75% new) before bottling unfiltered and unfined.

Typical Riesling, fresh and fruity, easy drinking. Grapes come from Brauneberger Juffer and Juffer-Sonnenuhr - one of the most prestigious vineyards in the Mosel winegrowing region. The vineyard faces south and provides the best conditions for growing Riesling.
Pairs well with barbecue meats, pasta dishes.
