The Chateau Plaisance Estate
Chateau Plaisance is located in the Medoc area, at the border of the Margaux appellation, overlooking the Gironde River. The average annual production is 60,000 bottles.
The construction of the Chateau Plaisance itself dates back to the 1780s, but its vineyards are far older, as can be seen on the 1753 map of the estate which can be found in the departmental archives of the Gironde.
This neoclassical "folie bordelaise" with its exterior double-helix staircase is now a listed historical monument. It still bears on its pediment the initials of its first owner, Jean Cavalier, and continues to be admired by lovers of 18th-century art. The architect of this monument was François Lhôte who was very active throughout the Bordelais.
Today, thanks to the painstaking attention of its owners, Chateau Plaisance has been reborn:

That's why the vineyards we tend, the wines we produce in our chais, the thousands of bottles we offer wine lovers, everything we do must show our ongoing concern for irreproachable quality."
The Chateau Plaisance Vineyard
Back in 1991, Jean-Louis and Isabelle Chollet began to buy up land in order to reconstitute the vineyards of the Châaeau Plaisance estate, located at the edge of the Margaux appellation d'origine controlee, on these famous palud alluvial soils, a terroir that has regained its former glory.
Overlooking the Garonne River, ten of the thirteen hectares of the estate, forming a single block, are now planted with 70% merlot, 20% cabernet-sauvignon, and 10% petit-verdot grapes. We have chosen to plant at a density of 5000 vines to the hectare to ensure a better concentration of our wines and to ensure an average yield of about 50 hectolitres per hectare.

The 2021 Domaine Joseph Voillot Volnay Les Champans Premier Cru is from the domain’s largest premier cru holding, 4.2 acres whose vines date from 1934, 1971, and 1985. Champans is down-slope in the premier cru band, and its wine typically has more fruit and power than other Voillot Volnays.
Review:
The 2021 Volnay Les Champans 1er Cru has much more brightness and delineation than the Fremiets this year, with red cherries, wild strawberries and just a touch of iodine and
sous-bois
. This is nicely focused. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, fine structure, pliant tannins and a harmonious finish. Not the most complex Champans encountered from this address, yet it has class.

A softly spicy and noticeably earthier nose blends notes of both red and dark currant with those of plum and violet. The supple, round and velvet-textured medium-bodied flavors seem quite forward though this impression contrasts with the compact and youthfully austere finale. Note that this is sufficiently firm to benefit from at least a few years of keeping.

Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova 2018 is made from 100% Sangiovese.
Founded in 1971 by Giovanni Neri and today led by his son Giacomo, Casanova di Neri is one of Montalcino's most acclaimed estates, farming a mosaic of vineyards across the appellation. Tenuta Nuova is their benchmark cru bottling — richly styled yet precise, and long regarded as one of Brunello's reference wines.
Brunello di Montalcino is made entirely from Sangiovese grown on the hills around the town of Montalcino in southern Tuscany, and aged for years before release. The Tenuta Nuova fruit comes from the warmer south-eastern side of the DOCG; the cooler, classically proportioned 2018 vintage yielded balanced, aromatic wines with fine, chewy tannins.

Elegant and perfumed nose of dried roses, violets, lemon zest, slate, cherries, aniseed and truffles. Very fine, tight and precise tannins. Medium to full body. I like the floral and saline undertones. So precise and fresh with a tight finish. Crushed stones at the end. Try in 2025, but already attractive to taste and drink.

Review:
Intense, bright ruby red, with a garnet sheen. On the nose, wild raspberries and black cherries, lovely savoury notes, violets. Substantial and dense on the palate, with really wonderful, compact tannins, multi-layered, notes of cloves, rich and chewy on the finish.

There is more depth to the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova, with light smoky earth, black cherry, licorice, and black pepper. It is polished with fresh, crunchy fruit yet retains a good amount of concentration, with notes of black raspberry, turned fresh soil, and graphite. Mouthwatering, with salinity, fresh acidity, and great length, it has fine tannins and warming spice on the finish. Drink 2024-2044.

This 2018 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova has a black-toned ruby color. It is very young and closed on the nose; blue-black berry fruit aromas are at the moment dominated by a slightly heavy oak note of cream, spice and leather. On the palate there are firm, chewy tannins and dark flavors. This is a robust style of Brunello, perhaps on its way to becoming more approachable at an early age, but at the moment the style is firmly robust and powerful. The fruit for the Tenuta Nuova comes from the warmer south-eastern part of the DOCG.

Here's a treat from Casanova di Neri. Aged in tonneaux for 30 months, the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is fleshed out and rich, with pretty layers of dark fruit, dried blackberry, spice, and cured tobacco. There’s a hint of sour cherry in this vintage that folds into crushed flower, balsamic herb, licorice, and crushed stone. The bouquet is classic, but the Casanova di Neri magic touch comes through thanks to the wine’s balance and lovely intensity. I can’t, however, overlook a powerful 15% alcohol content that leaves its mark. This is a production of 67,740 bottles.
