Chronos Cabernet Franc Okanagan Valley 2020

Chakana Cabernet Franc is made from 100 percent Cabernet Franc.

Chakana is the name of the Southern Cross constellation. Its rotation in the sky throughout the year made it an effective agricultural calendar for the ancient Andean people.

Expressive and ripe nose, juicy texture and intense fruit. Excellent balance, well integrated tannins and stunning minerality.

Review:

The 2020 Cabernet Franc Estate Selection comes from the Uco Valley and was aged for six months in French, 500-liter barrels. A rich reddish color. The nose offers ripe raspberry and blackberry with hints of mint and herbs that enhance the other flavors. The aging process makes itself felt in the mouth. The flow has a terse, broad texture initially, but then it grows more compact and linear. The mild acidity enlivens the reactive tannins, which establishes a good structure. A balanced take on the year, it will grow milder with more time in the bottle.

Katherine Corkrum Cabernet Franc Walla Walla is made from 100% Cabernet Franc.

Review:

Made from 100% Cabernet Franc, the 2014 Katherine Corkrum Cabernet Franc offers up a slightly reductive style and has lots of herbal characteristics, dark chocolate, black fruits and hints of meatiness. It's impressive on the palate and has medium to full-bodied richness, no hard edges, integrated acidity and plenty of flavor authority. Give bottles a year or two and enjoy over the following decade.

(14.3% alcohol): Bright, dark red. Alluring aromas of black raspberry, blackberry, mocha, licorice and flowers. Concentrated, savory and thick, conveying a sense of power--and high pH--to its flavors of red berries, cherry, mocha and flowers. Complex saline minerality and a note of tobacco add complexity and cut to the wine's sweetness. This plump, deep Cabernet Franc spreads out impressively to saturate the palate, with the tannins fully supported by mid-palate stuffing. Perhaps a bit less suave and delineated than the 2013 release but there's more wine here.

The 2020 My Favorite Neighbor features a complex nose of red cherry, current and raspberry along with wild herbs, violets, and just a hint of toasted marshmallow. On the palate, generous flavors of black cherry, ripe plum, and fig compote is joined by notes of medium roast coffee and creme brulee. The extremely long and mineral finish is characterized by a hefty structure and luxurious, silky tannins.

Napa Bench Cabernet Sauvigon Napa Valley is made from 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot, 2% Petite Verdot. 
The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 16 months.

The Bench lands of Napa Valley are where we find Cabernet Sauvignon with Power and Strength. Elegant and supple tannins complete the structure. Bench lands are the geological middle ground that connect the Valley Floor with the Mountain rises, perfectly drained soils!

Abeja Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley is made from 96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot.

Aged for 20 months in 100% French, medium toast; 60% new, 40% one & two year old
The nose leads off with plum, bright blackberry, and dark bing cherries. A touch of dried blueberry rounds out the fruit profile. Floral notes and cocoa, with nuances of cedar and spice, are sprinkled throughout. All of these characters follow through on the palate and, with a pleasant minerality and continuity, weave a tapestry of complexity and youthful exuberance. 

"Plenty of blackcurrants and blueberries with a hit of new wood, too. Medium body, slightly firm tannins and a flavorful finish. This still needs some time to come together. Cabernet sauvignon with 1% petit verdot. Better after 2021."

Aromas of barrel spice, coffee, cherry, bittersweet chocolate, graphite and sautéed herb are followed by textured cherry and chocolate flavors. There's a pleasing sense of brightness to the acidity and deftness to the rich, creamy coffee and bright cherry flavors that keep the interest high. Plenty of tannic structure holds it all together. Coffee notes linger on the finish. It's far from a big bruiser and needs some time to all integrate but brings and abundance of rewards. Best after 2026 with a very long life beyond that.
