Product Description

Gimenez Mendez Alta Reserva Tannat is made from 100 percent Tannat.

The wine is 100% Tannat, intense, smooth yet powerful and elegant with ripe red fruits on the nose, perfect acidity and balanced tannins in the mouth. An easy drinking and food-friendly wine. Tannat is considered as one of the “healthiest” red wine grapes, thanks to much higher levels of antioxidants. Enjoy this wine - a unique style from the South Atlantic.

Hand harvest and hand selection, destemming and crushing . Pre fermentation maceration at low temperature during 6 days. Delicate and slow fermentation with selected yeast between 18 to 25 C during 12 to 15 days. Post maceration during 8 days. American and French oak aging during 9 months. Finally a blend is produced with wines of the same variety obtained from different plots to achieve the GIMENEZ MENDEZ Alta Reserva profile.

Pairs well with roasted red meats (parrilla-asado), pastas and well-seasoned cheeses. Ideal with lamb. Also very enjoyable with desserts and chocolate.

Review:

"Aged in American oak because it gives Tannat "better polymerisation", according to winemaker Gastón Vitale, this is certainly sweeter and more coconutty than most of the bodega's other reds. Smooth and supple, it has plenty of bramble and black cherry fruit and a backbone of tannin. 2021-25"

Ideal to serve with very spicy seafood, sushi or salads, as well as white meats with sweet-sour sauces, paté. Serve chilled.

Review:

An un-oaked white that shines with green herbs, grapefruit zest, pea tendrils and superb acidity. It shows exotic floral notes with a steely middle. A pop of nectarine on the finish adds to its crystal clean clarity.

Arzuaga Ribera del Duero Reserva 2017

Arzuaga Ribera del Duero Reserva is made from 95% Tempranillo, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Merlot.

Clean and bright ruby red with purple reflections. Great aromatic intensity, complex and elegant, where the compote of red fruits dominates. The palate is structured with silky, sweet tannins and a lingering finish.

The harvest was done manually at the optimum point of maturity, and carried out separately for each of the more than 20 different plots used to make this wine. After the selection tables, a pre-fermentation maceration at low temperature and subsequent alcoholic fermentation at 28º is carried out, giving way to malolactic fermentation and aging in new French oak barrels for 26 months.

Ideal with red meats (big game), roasted white meat, and blue cheese.

Quinta de Fafide Reserva Branco 2017

Quinta de Fafide Reserva Branco is made from 50% Codega do Larinho, 30% Rabigato, 20% Viosinho

In this wine we look for an aromatic concentration and high acidity of the grapes from the very old traditional vineyards of high altitude in Douro Superior, about 550 meters above sea level, showing the full character of the varieties of indigenous Douro old vines, giving very mineral and creamy wines. Mineral aroma, citrus and tropical fruit, fresh and full-bodied on the palate, buttery texture and complexity provided by fermentation and ageing in barrels.

Xavier Vignon Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge 2017

Xavier Vignon Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge is made from 65% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre and 15% Syrah.

A clear and very expressive nose with notes of black fruits, spices and licorice. The mouth reveals tanins that are already supple with a great balance.
The finish is long, on black fruits, licorice and a slight salinity.

Xavier Vignon Chateauneuf du Pape Rouge is made from grilled rib of beef, roasted duck with figs, boar stew.

Review:

Vignon's 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape looks to be the best example he's put together to date of this cuvée. Full-bodied and supple, it comes at you with layers of fruit, ranging from stone fruit and raspberries through to blueberries and cola.

Ayni Vino de Parcella Gravas 2017

Ayni Vino de Parcella Gravas is 100% Malbec

Ayni Gravas was created show the diversity of wine profiles that can be derived from Paraje Altamira’s terroir. The goal with this particular wine is to show a markedly calcareous profile that derives in a more intense black fruit flavor profile and a chalky tannin structure with great age potential, as opposed to the more feminine and elegant style which is typical from Paraje Altamira wines.

Chakana plans to further develop this wine, increasing its accents through vineyard selection and oak aging. Over time, production can potentially increase to 10,000 bottles (maximum).

Ayni Gravas is produced from smaller plots of a 20 hectare vineyard in Paraje Altamira, Valle de Uco, Mendoza. Paraje Altamira is a Geographical Indication (IG) located on the alluvial cone of the Tunuyan River. The Ayni vineyard has been planted on virgin soils on the upper (south western) side of the cone. The vineyard is crossed by numerous smaller river beds that once formed the river delta, and these create a pattern of different soil depths and gravel formations, imparting very different characteristics on the wine. Ayni Gravas is produced only with the sections of the vineyard where the calcium carbonated gravels come to the surface and the vines grow amongst them with no soil. Only a smaller percentage of the vineyard (approximately 20%) features these conditions.

Pairs well with grilled meats and stews.

Review:

"Dark medium ruby. Enticing violet lift to the aromas of boysenberry, blackberry and licorice; wild but not excessively so. Juicy and fine-grained, with penetrating chalky minerality enlivening the flavors of crushed blackberry, flowers and spices. In a very savory, almost salty style, finishing dry and firm, with fresh, fine-grained tannins and lovely energy and length. (just 12.5% alcohol; from the same vineyard as the Ayni Vineyard Paraje Altamira but from a selection of soils) - Stephen Tanzer"

"There is a new 2017 Ayni Parcela Gravas, a selection of Malbec from their Ayni vineyard in Paraje Altamira from very shallow plots with a high content of limestone. The nature of the soils might have resulted in some stress in a warm and dry year like 2017, and the wine felt a bit ripe and with harsher tannins than the regular Ayni. For the rest, the production and élevage remained more or less the same. I look forward to seeing the results in a cooler year. For now, the tannins need a little bit of time in bottle. 3,000 bottles were filled in March 2019. - Luis Gutiérrez"

Jada Hells Kitchen 2017

Jada Hells Kitchen is made from Paso Robles 60% Syrah, 20% Grenache, 16% Graciano, 3% Viognier, 1% Tannat.

Even at 60% Syrah, this wine still places Grenache in the limelight. A decadent nose of cherries and candied flowers opens to darker, earthier notes of garrigue, cola, and graphite. The wine aged for 16 months in mostly 350L and 500L barrels, with only 15% new, French oak. The finish is long, with subtle traces of sweet tobacco and cedar, and layered, fine tannins.

The wine takes its name from an area on the West-side of Manhattan that still exists today. The TV show did not come up with that name, although the producers have purchased several cases of this wine. It was an area initially populated by slaves and then immigrants from all over the world upon their arrival in New York. It is also the neighborhood in which Jack's parents met and fell in love and it has become one of Jada's most well-known and popular labels to-date.

The Hell’s Kitchen was blended from five separate fermentations ranging from 8 to 14 days for the Syrah, 17 days for the Grenache, and 39 days for Graciano. Syrah lends density and dark fruit to the blend, with Grenache adding additional structure and bright, red fruit aromatics. Aging for 16 months in a mixture of 500L, 350L, and 228L formats and a small amount of medium plus and heavy toast barrels. (15% new french oak, 85% neutral oak)

Review:

"A blend of 60% Syrah, 20% Grenache, 16% Graciano, 3% Viognier, and 1% Tannat, the 2017 Hell's Kitchen spent 16 months in 15% new French oak. It has a beautiful bouquet of black fruits, crushed violets, ground pepper, and licorice. These carry to a medium to full-bodied, opulent Syrah that's packed with sweet fruit and offers terrific purity, sweet tannins, and a great finish. Drink this hedonistic fruit bomb over the coming 7-8 years."
