Hyde de Villaine Napa Valley Hyde Vineyard Belle Cousine is made from 85% Cabernet Sauvignon & 15% Merlot.
The name Belle Cousine is a reference to Pamela Fairbanks de Villaine, Larry Hyde’s lovely cousin, who is the wife of Aubert de Villaine of Burgundy. It is Pamela who brings these visionary viticultural families from Burgundy and the Carneros region of Napa Valley together to make wines that express the character of place, with that rare minerality so dear to the Burgundian palate. Belle Cousine is a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon that varies each vintage; Merlot from Niebaum selections and Cabernet from Bordeaux-origin selections.
The vineyard is certified Napa Green Land and Fish Friendly Farming and Larry Hyde uses a variety of biodynamic and organic practices in the vineyard; the wines are unfined and unfiltered.
Review:
"The balance of fruit purity and savory nuances is divine. Aromas of black currants, licorice, dried herbs and leather. The palate is mid-weighted with a pure, refined mouthfeel and firmly framed yet fine tannins. A well-crafted blend of 85% cabernet sauvignon and 15% merlot that shows great harmony."

Hyde de Villaine (HdV) was co-founded by the Hyde family of Napa Valley and the de Villaine family of Burgundy. Aubert de Villaine, former Co-Director of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, married Larry Hyde’s cousin, Pamela, bringing the two families together. Hyde de Villaine wines represent the shared histories and winemaking philosophies of these families and one iconic single vineyard.
Hyde de Villaine (HdV) is a unique collaboration between two storied winemaking families: the Hyde family of Napa Valley and the de Villaine family of Burgundy. This partnership unites a rich heritage of French and Californian winemaking to produce exceptional single-vineyard wines from the prestigious Hyde Vineyards. The Hyde family, led by Larry Hyde, has been a cornerstone of Napa Valley's viticulture since 1977, transforming Carneros soils into the renowned Hyde Vineyards. Larry's deep-rooted love for agriculture, coupled with his pioneering spirit, established a legacy of cultivating some of Napa Valley's most coveted grapes.
Aubert de Villaine, married to Larry Hyde’s cousin Pamela, brings a wealth of expertise from Burgundy. As co-director of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and proprietor Domaine de Villaine, Aubert's mastery in traditional winemaking techniques complements the innovative approach of HdV. His commitment to preserving terroir and exploring new possibilities enhances the partnership's philosophy. Guillaume Boudet, who joined HdV in 2013, contributes a passion for terroir-driven winemaking, influenced by his experiences in Bordeaux and Sonoma Coast.
Since its establishment in 2003, the HdV winery has been designed for minimal intervention winemaking. Here, the focus remains on preserving the essence of the vineyard through careful vineyard management and adaptive winemaking practices, ensuring each vintage authentically reflects its origins.
Hyde de Villaine represents the shared history, experience and vision of these two families. Bringing the rich traditions of France’s winemaking techniques, Aubert drives Hyde de Villaine’s viticulture and winemaking philosophy — one that espouses minimal intervention by the winemaker in order to express the varietal, the vineyard and the vintage. Larry brings a legacy of family farming in California and over four decades of experience growing wine grapes in Napa Valley, particularly Carneros. Aubert and Larry are both innovators with a desire for continuous improvement in the vineyard, and they have established a culture around the pursuit of excellence for Hyde de Villaine wines over the past 25 years.
Hyde de Villaine (HdV) wines are produced almost exclusively from Hyde Vineyards in Carneros. Originally purchased by the Hyde family over 40 years ago, Hyde Vineyards is the source of some of the best single-vineyard wines in the country (e.g. Patz & Hall, Paul Hobbs, Ramey, Staglin, Kistler, DuMol, Schramsberg, Tor, Mark Aubert). Larry Hyde has gained national recognition for his viticultural talents as Hyde de Villaine was poured multiple times at various White House dinners.
Spread over sedimentary terraces, Hyde Vineyards is blessed with shallow loamy soil and ancient streambeds that work in conjunction with the cool Carneros climate and gentle winds to create moderate hydric stress within the vines. It is this condition of moderate stress that encourages the vines to maximize their potential.
The temperature-moderating winds and fog of the Carneros region result in a prolonged growing season. This extended growing season is vital to the completion of phenolic maturation that brings both intensity and balance to the wines.
Hyde de Villaine Chardonnay Napa Valley Carneros Hyde Vineyard is made from 100 percent Chardonnay.
Star-bright vibrancy. Chiseled acidity and minerality focus the palate with flavors spanning lemon ice to dried mango and hazelnut. The purity of this wine showcases the coolness of the 2023 vintage. A captivating texture of precision and charm highlights this complexity offering.
Review:
This wine is truly excellent, showing a mineral-edged nose with pure energy and tension. Aromas of struck match, citrus blossoms, crushed stones and salted nuts. The palate is taut, with no hard edges and driving acidity that keeps you salivating for minutes. Closing in on perfection. Drink or hold.

Clif Lede Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap is made from 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petit Verdot.
Our Stags Leap District and Calistoga estate vineyards build the foundation of this wine with support from valued grower sites located in Oakville, Rutherford, and Howell Mountain. Composed of small batches from a variety of blocks of varying age, this wine represents a diverse range of carefully selected rootstocks and clones. Yields are maintained at sparse levels, with a focus on canopy management and vine balance. The resulting blend boasts a remarkable depth and complexity that is quintessential Napa Valley.
Grapes were picked in the darkness of the early morning hours. The freshly-harvested fruit immediately underwent rigorous selection by our three-tiered sorting process, which included our cutting-edge optical sorter. Whole berries were gently delivered by gravity to tank using our crane system, minimizing disruption of berry integrity. Cold soaks lasted approximately seven days, and fermentations were managed via a combination of délestage, pumpovers, and punchdowns. Extended maceration ranging from four to five weeks fine-tuned our tannin profiles, allowing us to perfect mouth feel and wine complexity. The wine was aged in French oak barrels, 48% of which were new, for twenty-one months.
Elegantly soft and lithe the 2021 coaxes the taster with warm dark chocolate and luscious black cherry aromas. More graphite, chocolate cake, crushed mulberries, and iron notes leap from the glass. The entry is filled with dark fruit flavors of cassis, blackberry, and blue berries and they’re all tinged with floral notes of jasmine and violets. The polished tannins along the finish feel Cashmere-like and beg the taster for another sip. – Christopher Tynan, Director of Winemaking
Review:
So silky and drinkable at the first sip, this well-concentrated wine feels tight and restrained with more tastes, holding its trove of black fruits, cedar, cinnamon and dark chocolate in a rich blanket of extra-fine tannins. Its complexity, layering and lingering finish are something special.

Double Diamond by Schrader Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon is made from 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon.
Barrels: 54% new French oak, 46% second-use Schrader Darnajou French Oak
The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon offers concentration, lively acidity, and refined tannins that have become the hallmark of the 2022 vintage. The nose holds notes of black raspberry, toasted cedar, juicy plum, and pennyroyal mint—a Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon signature. The palate is mouthwatering with intricately woven layers of blackberry compote, dark chocolate shavings, oolong tea, and flint. The dynamic flavors carry across the mid-palate in vivid harmony into a long, floral finish. This wine is ready to drink upon release but will cellar well for years to come.
Double Diamond is sourced exclusively from a complement of prime vineyard estates. Sourced from the same famed vineyards as its beloved inspiration Schrader Cellars in Napa Valley’s world-renowned Oakville AVA, including our To Kalon Vineyard.
The Grade Napa Cabernet Sauvignon Winfield Vineyard is made from Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.
“This wine expresses a focused balancing act of dark, rich black fruit, and a fine tannin structure, illuminated through the core with a laser-like acidity. The wine displays a deep purple-red hue with a cranberry halo. Aromas of cassis, cinnamon, citrus oil, roasted meat, and lilac swell from the glass.
“The palate is marked by a wave of jet-black brambly fruit up front, followed by an exotic spice mid-palate and a long, complex finish that lasts and lasts expressing notes of flowering jasmine, and oolong tea. The silky tannins hold everything together and will certainly allow this wine to evolve in the cellar for at least 7-10 years.” - Thomas River Brown
Review:
The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Winfield Vineyard is an absolutely gorgeous wine that conveys a striking interplay of richness, power and nuance. Silky and restrained for this site, the Winfield offers up a compelling melange of red fruit, iron, cedar, tobacco, rose petal and dried herbs, all in a mid-weight style that is incredibly appealing. The Winfield is a selection taken from Blocks 1, 4 and 5.

Mark your calendars for June! O'Shaughnessy Estate Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is made from 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Malbec, 3% Petit Verdot, 3% St. Macaire, 1% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Carmenère.
Blended from our three Estate vineyards in arguably the three best appellations within the Napa Valley: Howell Mountain, Mt. Veeder and Oakville. Howell Mountain gives us structure and ripe red fruit, while Mt. Veeder adds an extra punch of tannins along with savory mineral driven qualities, Oakville balances out the mountains with its silky texture and pure fruit. This Cabernet is deep ruby red with an opaque center. Bold aromas of aged leather, black currant, and rum raisin, creating a layered and complex bouquet. A luxuriously sweet and rich entry, unfolding with ripe blackberry and velvety cocoa powder. The texture is smooth yet structured, balanced by moderate tannins and a medium level of acidity, leading to a long, elegant finish.
Review:
Based on 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Malbec, 3% Petit Verdot, 3% St. Macaire, 1% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Carmenère and aged two years in French oak (60% new, 40% second year), the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon offers blackcurrants, scorched earth, iron, sappy herbs, and tobacco. It's rich and medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated, and has a layered, textured mouthfeel, ripe underlying tannins, and outstanding length. I slightly prefer the overall structure and balance here to the Mt. Veeder bottling, but both are successful 2022s with 10-12 years of longevity.
