Wine from Hahn in Montepulciano d'Abruzzo

The Montepulciano d'Abruzzo region of Italy crafts Montepulciano wines, and blankets a portion from Abruzzo to the Adriatic Sea. The lush region boasts of mountain ranges, with almost 70 percent of the region covered in stony mountains and peaks. The grapes planted in the mountainous terrain thrive in soil that contains a high level of clay, and they grow extremely well due to the sun and the wind that comes from the sea. Four areas of the region create the Montepulciano wine, and an area of the region called L’Aquila is known for a nice rose wine. The DOC region boasted over around 20,000 acres of vineyards in the year 2004, and the following year, the region produced over 500,000 hectoliters of their prized wines. The Montepulciano d'Abruzzo was given DOC status in the late 1960’s and it blankets roughly 80 miles through central Italy. Most wines crafted in the region are made in the hills and coastal regions since a good portion of the terrain in the region are filled with mountain ranges. A portion of the land lies in the center of the region, which winemakers have been seeking to improve the quality of their wines. It is noted that the techniques in that region have improved over the years.

Bastgen Berncastel-Cueser Weisenstein Riesling Spatlese Trocken is made from 100 percent Riesling.
Bright, clean, fresh and zesty. Grapefruit like flavors. Fruity aromas and a nice minerality, typical of the Riesling grape grown on blue slate soil. Round, rich and a very long finish. The grapes for this wine are vigorously selected. Botrytis is not tolerated. At harvest the grapes are fully ripened, have a golden color, and a soft tartness. After a long spontaneous fermentation in a traditional 1000L barrel, the wine just reaches the dry stage. This gives the wine a creamy structure that interplays with ripe yellow and exotic fruit aromas.
They meticulously tend 4.5 ha (11.11 acres) of which 80% is Riesling. The soil is made of slate. Their vineyards are located in Kesten and Brauneberg, on a steep terrace, and planted to 50-year old vines. Fortunately for Bastgen, they own part of the famous Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr. The vines produce very small, ripe berries that are very tasty.

Murray Cabernet Sauvignon Red Mountain is made from 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10%, Merlot , 6% Malbec, 6%, Petit Verdot.
A beautiful ruby color, this wine is very fruity with lots of plum and just a hint of characteristic Red Mountain minerality. It is very smooth with a slight texture of tannin on the back. This wine is a real Cab crowd pleaser.
As much as possible, winemakers Tim and Kelly Hightower take a non-interventionist approach to winemaking. They place great emphasis on vineyard selection, picking, pressing, and blending so that Hightower wines are naturally beautiful and free from pretense. They let the powerful and concentrated fruit from Red Mountain speak for itself. The result is a collection of well-balanced, nuanced wines that reveal something new and interesting each time you open a bottle.
They age in the oak barrels until they are ready to bottle.Neutral Oak 52%, New Oak 48% (American 57%, Hungarian 15%, French 14%, European 14%).
After primary fermentation, all wines are pressed directly into 59 gallon oak barrels. Aging for 19 months.
