Product Description

Mt Monster Chardonnay is made from 100 percent Chardonnay.

Gentle pressing and free run juices create the base of this wine.

Traditionally Mt Monster Chardonnay is 100% fermented and matured in stainless steel, this receives some lees contact to add texture and complexity to the palate, but essentially this wine is pure Chardonnay fruit.

Review & Tasting notes:

Bright straw color, with hints of lime green. Fresh figs and melon, with vibrant lemon citrus fruit. The nose also shows some yeast complexity from extended lees contact. Fresh tangy melon fruit flavors, & a clean acid finish. Although it may benefit from up to 2 years maturation in bottle, this wine is best consumed when young and fresh.

Winery: Mt. Monster

The Mt Monster Estate / Vineyard
Mount Monster, a striking pink-red granite outcrop formed millions of years ago, is a rare and inspired location.

Since 1851, five generations of the Bryson family have been involved in agriculture and the unique and fertile land of South Australia.

At Mt. Monster, their sole objective is to produce the best wines possible from their unique vineyard site. Located in the Padthaway valley which is comprised of rich Terra Rosa soils their estate vineyard benefits from excellent sun exposure producing grapes of optimum flavor, color and tannin development. The warm summer days are moderated each evening by coastal winds that cool the vines and result in a longer ripening period. This extended period allows for the grape tannins and seed to fully ripen prior to being harvested, thus creating wines that are rich and supple on the palate.

The grapes cultivated are: Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The wines from Mt. Monster express full varietal flavors, take advantage of the Padthaway’s maritime climate with its long slow ripening season and unique soils.
They use traditional winemaking methods, complemented by modern winemaking technology with minimal processing to ensure the purity, integrity, texture and flavor from the vineyard.
They strive for low crop yields and small grape bunches of intense flavor, and whilst they employ the latest technology in the vineyard to achieve vine balance and reduced vigor, they harvest when the fruit reaches full flavor development.

The Mt Monster Estate Wines

Mt. Monster wine is synonymous with premium wines from South Australia’s Padthaway wine region being awarded over 80 medals in International and Australian Wine shows in recent years. The vineyards at Padthaway are planted on there own rootstock in some of the world’s oldest mineral rich soils and in the most temperate of maritime climates. The Mt. Monster vineyard consistently produces excellent fruit quality from low yielding vines.

Only the best parcels of fruit are carefully selected throughout the vineyard and utilized in the Mt. Monster label. Great attention to detail with the integration of fruit flavors and fine oak barrels helps produce classic handcrafted wine styles.

Review:

The single-vineyard 2017 Ayni Malbec comes from paraje Altamira, and the wine was bottled with 13% alcohol and moderate acidity that made it feel soft but not bland, with enough freshness going through its core. Many wines are now matured in large oak containers, and that certainly helps with the integration of the oak with the fruit, as is the case here. The tannins are fine-grained, and the finish is dry and long. 10,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2018. - Luis Gutiérrez"

Siegel Special Reserve Carmenere 2018

Siegel Special Reserve Carmenere is made from 100 percent Carmenere.

Viña Siegel is a family operated winery with a well-established tradition and long history. For generations we have been dedicated to the art of crafting wines with strong identities. Our Special Reserve wines represent the union of tradition and innovation in two generations. The grapes are sourced through careful selection of our best vineyards. Their ripe and round tannins clearly express the terroir of Colchagua. Siegel Special Reserve Carmenere has been aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. It has an intense violet-red color, with aromas of black fruits, spices, dark chocolate and dried figs. The palate is balanced and juicy with velvety tannins and a long finish.

Pre-fermentative cold maceration for 5 days, with alcoholic fermentation occurring at 27-29°C for a deeper colour and better structure. Smooth pump overs happen once a day at the winemaker’s discretion. Post-fermentative maceration for 2 weeks. Then the wine is separated from its lees and malolactic fermentation ensues. Once the wine has fermented it is smoothly clarified and cold stabilisation occurs when necessary.

It pairs well with spicy foods, pasta with mushrooms and roasts

Siegel Special Reserve Viognier 2019

The Siegel Special Reserve Viognier has a pale yellow color with green tones. The nose is quite intense with superb notes of white peach, grapefruit and floral expression. On the palate, the wine is balanced, persistent and it has an excellent acidity.

It was bottled right after a slight filtration.

The Siegel Special Reserve Viognier goes well with thai food or fish cooked in sauce.

Review:

"A rather shy nose reveals nothing but slight notes of citrus. The palate then fills out with subtle but convincing notes of fresh sage, lemon pith, celery salt and yeast. Lemon highlights keep this on the ultrafresh side, but the savory yeastiness provides a lovely balance. - ANNE KREBIEHL MW"

Ferren Chardonnay Lancel Creek 2016

Lancel Creek Vineyard is perched above the tiny hamlet of Occidental on the remote Sonoma Coast. This secluded, two-acre site was prepared, planted, and is still tended by Ulises Valdez. The pale, off-white Goldridge soil provides just enough nutrients and moisture for these densely planted vines to ripen a small amount of intensely aromatic and flavorful Chardonnay. The combined influence of the cold Pacific and the warming afternoon sun produces a wine of incredible richness and sublime balance.

Age of the vines: 15 years

Review:

Flirting with perfection, the 2016 Chardonnay Lancel Creek Vineyard offers a touch more zip in its crushed lemon, white flowers, mint, and honeysuckle, aromas and flavors. Rich, full-bodied, and concentrated, yet just incredibly pure, this is a heavenly Chardonnay that's getting up there with the crème de la crème in the vintage. Tasting like a Grand Cru Chablis on Steroids, it's going to continue drinking beautifully for over a decade. It's a wow wine and should be sought out by readers. Abeja Chardonnay Washington State 2016

This Chardonnay has the essence of a freshly baked lemon meringue pie, green apple, and Bartlett pear. It is both dense and bright, with a hint of vanilla and cinnamon coming from its time in barrel. Aromas are so much related to experiences. It is a wine that is in the traditional Abeja style, with superb polish, complexity, and balance, yet with a light touch at 13.5 percent alcohol.
