Product Description

Mt Monster Chardonnay is made from 100 percent Chardonnay.

Gentle pressing and free run juices create the base of this wine.

Traditionally Mt Monster Chardonnay is 100% fermented and matured in stainless steel, this receives some lees contact to add texture and complexity to the palate, but essentially this wine is pure Chardonnay fruit.

Review & Tasting notes:

Bright straw color, with hints of lime green. Fresh figs and melon, with vibrant lemon citrus fruit. The nose also shows some yeast complexity from extended lees contact. Fresh tangy melon fruit flavors, & a clean acid finish. Although it may benefit from up to 2 years maturation in bottle, this wine is best consumed when young and fresh.

Winery: Mt. Monster

The Mt Monster Estate / Vineyard
Mount Monster, a striking pink-red granite outcrop formed millions of years ago, is a rare and inspired location.

Since 1851, five generations of the Bryson family have been involved in agriculture and the unique and fertile land of South Australia.

At Mt. Monster, their sole objective is to produce the best wines possible from their unique vineyard site. Located in the Padthaway valley which is comprised of rich Terra Rosa soils their estate vineyard benefits from excellent sun exposure producing grapes of optimum flavor, color and tannin development. The warm summer days are moderated each evening by coastal winds that cool the vines and result in a longer ripening period. This extended period allows for the grape tannins and seed to fully ripen prior to being harvested, thus creating wines that are rich and supple on the palate.

The grapes cultivated are: Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The wines from Mt. Monster express full varietal flavors, take advantage of the Padthaway’s maritime climate with its long slow ripening season and unique soils.
They use traditional winemaking methods, complemented by modern winemaking technology with minimal processing to ensure the purity, integrity, texture and flavor from the vineyard.
They strive for low crop yields and small grape bunches of intense flavor, and whilst they employ the latest technology in the vineyard to achieve vine balance and reduced vigor, they harvest when the fruit reaches full flavor development.

The Mt Monster Estate Wines

Mt. Monster wine is synonymous with premium wines from South Australia’s Padthaway wine region being awarded over 80 medals in International and Australian Wine shows in recent years. The vineyards at Padthaway are planted on there own rootstock in some of the world’s oldest mineral rich soils and in the most temperate of maritime climates. The Mt. Monster vineyard consistently produces excellent fruit quality from low yielding vines.

Only the best parcels of fruit are carefully selected throughout the vineyard and utilized in the Mt. Monster label. Great attention to detail with the integration of fruit flavors and fine oak barrels helps produce classic handcrafted wine styles.

Bellevue Cotes de Bordeaux-Castillon Ce Ma Cuvee 2015

Bellevue Cotes de Bordeaux-Castillon Cé Ma Cuvée is made from 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc

The wine is made with 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. Average age of the vines is 50 years old (everything is between 40 and 60 years old).

Cé Ma Cuvée is a tribute from Michel Lydoire to his 2 daughters:
Cé is for Céline. She is like the Merlot grape varietal. Pleasant and calm.
Ma is for Marina. She is like the Cabernet Franc grape varietal. Tough and with a lot of character.

The color is deep and inky.
The nose is spicy, fruity and oaky with some nice vanilla and coconut aromas.
The mouthfeel is complex, with ripe red and black fruit flavors. Some spiciness and integrated oak flavors.

The wine starts as the Vieilles vignes, but some wine is aged in 500-liter American Oak Barrels for 18 months.
They are using a mix of different toastiness for the barrels. Some high toast and some are medium toast.

This is a fun wine that can be enjoyed with any food, charbroil burgers, grilled vegetables, cheeses ... or even with dark chocolate desserts.

Review:

2015 Castillon Cotes de Bordeaux Cé Ma Cuvée Céline Lydoire focuses this wine on Bellevue's old Merlot plots, blending in Cabernet franc from southern exposures on gravelly soils. It's her top selection, treated to 18 months in new 400-liter oak barrels; she started making it at the behest of her French customers, who wanted a step up from her cool and refreshing Cuvée Tradition. This is just as cool, but more saturated in its distinctly Castillon fruit flavor—think wild strawberries and blueberries with an earthy mineral undercurrent. That silky fruit gains its supple impression from the new oak, which boosts the textural richness. As I thought about how to score this wine, I found myself writing, "If that were from California, I'd be all over it." Absolutely. But it's also got Castillon limestone clarity. And, it's $27. What: a range of top-notch Vinho Verde and Douro wines at prices that encourage overindulgence.
Standout: Made from the Guedes family's best selection of fruit, is filled with peach fruit and saline acidity.

"It's rare to find a vinho verde – the famously light and refreshing "green" white wine of Portugal – that isn't delightful, but this is one of the best of the breed. And there's no better time to quaff these wines than in the spring and summer. This version is lightly effervescent, with a lively acidity that wakes up the palate. It combines lime and peach flavors with a whiff of sea breeze. Somehow it manages to be both ethereal and penetrating. The ultimate picnic wine? Perhaps. It begs to be drunk outdoors."

Ferren Chardonnay Lancel Creek 2016

Lancel Creek Vineyard is perched above the tiny hamlet of Occidental on the remote Sonoma Coast. This secluded, two-acre site was prepared, planted, and is still tended by Ulises Valdez. The pale, off-white Goldridge soil provides just enough nutrients and moisture for these densely planted vines to ripen a small amount of intensely aromatic and flavorful Chardonnay. The vineyard faces the Pacific Ocean, a mere five miles to the west. The combined influence of the cold Pacific and the warming afternoon sun produces a wine of incredible richness and sublime balance.

Soil types: Goldridge, fine sandy loam.
Age of the vines: 15 years

Review:

Flirting with perfection, the 2016 Chardonnay Lancel Creek Vineyard offers a touch more zip in its crushed lemon, white flowers, mint, and honeysuckle, aromas and flavors. Rich, full-bodied, and concentrated, yet just incredibly pure, this is a heavenly Chardonnay that's getting up there with the crème de la crème in the vintage. Tasting like a Grand Cru Chablis on Steroids, it's going to continue drinking beautifully for over a decade. It's a wow wine and should be sought out by readers. "The Silver Eagle Vineyard is owned and farmed by Ulises Valdez. The 2016 Chardonnay Silver Eagle Vineyard has a gorgeous nose of honeycomb and beeswax, crushed stone, toasted hazelnut and lime peel with a core of Golden Delicious, quince, apricot and peach. Medium to full-bodied and intensely flavorful in the mouth, it's balanced by very juicy acidity and a touch of texture, finishing very long, honeyed and layered. Lismore Chardonnay 2016

Lismore Chardonnay made from 100 percent Chardonnay.

Intense citrus and soft fruit layered with honey and vanilla carried by a distinct minerality and crisp acidity with a lingering citrus finish.

Fermented and aged in 225-300 liter older French barrels with regular batonnage. 10 % Malolactic Fermentation. Residual Sugar: 2.41

Delightful with warm curries which lift the aromatics or a traditional pairing of smoked salmon highlighting the fresh acidity.

   Review:

"The 2016 Chardonnay contains 10% fruit from the Elinskloof vineyard (hence the different WO than the 2015). The tightly wound bouquet of citrus fruit, honeysuckle and light chalky scents gathers momentum in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a slightly petrolly opening and a little more viscous than the 2015, featuring a touch of spice and perhaps not quite the length of the 2016. Excellent, but it needs a couple of years in bottle. - Neal Martin"

"From the moment your nose goes into the glass, the 2016 Chardonnay commands your attention. Instantaneously, the soft, elegant oak tones are matched with classic apple and pear tones, lemon curd and hints of soft white peach. On the palate, the wine is expressive, with a focused core of opulent tree fruit, a structured beam of acidity through the mid-palate, and lift from well-managed, integrated oak flavors. The long finish has me thinking of something between the Russian River Valley and Montrachet. This is how you make Chardonnay. Bottles of this are going into my cellar and I recommend you do the same. - Anthony Mueller"

Trione Chardonnay River Road Ranch 2016

Rich aromas of baked apple, almonds and brown sugar foretell the mouth-filling flavors. A full, silky texture on the palate leads to a lingering, clean finish. This Chardonnay will age beautifully for another three to five years.

Review:

The 2016 Chardonnay River Road Ranch is redolent of honeydew melon, fuzzy peaches and spiced apples with touches of almond pastry and beeswax. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers a lot of ripe, rich fruit, with just enough freshness and a nice, long, savory finish. 997 cases produced. - Wine Advocate 90 Points
