Big Table Farm Sunnyside Pinot Noir 2015

Lucy and Tom have been tending the same vines for over thirty years with care and diligence. The evidence of their work and care is clear – not only in the appearance of the vineyard but the quality of fruit they produce and subsequently the wines.

tasting notes— This wine offers a full rich nose, cinnamon, cedar and musk. Great density on the palate, rich but with a focused palate as the acid holds it all in the middle so perfectly.  Flavors are explosive, fresh, and everything perfectly in place.  The structure here is based more on its acidity than tannins, though the tannins are there they and just melt on your tongue.  This wine has great length to accompany its generosity.

95 points — purely domestic wine report

Vivid red. A highly perfumed, complex bouquet evokes ripe red berries, blood orange, star anise and vanilla, and smoky mineral and candied rose nuances build as the wine opens up. Silky, focused and gently sweet, offering concentrated raspberry, cola, floral pastille and spicecake flavors, underscored by a vein of juicy acidity that gives the wine a surprisingly delicate touch. Shows excellent clarity and youthful tension on the strikingly long finish, which is shaped by fine-grained, even tannins.
94 points — Josh Raynolds — Vinous

Refined and fresh, with pretty cherry and violet aromas and sleekly complex raspberry, stony mineral and tea flavors that glide toward polished tannins. Drink now through 2023. 369 cases made.

Big Table Farm Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2016

The use of whole cluster fermentation is the back bone of this wine. Lots of leather and oak spice on the nose. Black cherry, dried cranberry, and pomegranate, as well as cardamom and anise. Palm sugar, hay, clove and sandalwood on the palate. Very fresh and bright, approachable wine.

#74 Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2018

A luminous wine in a generous vintage, this draws from all eight vineyards Brian Marcy uses in his production. It shows a woodsy, tea-like spice, but in the end, it’s the fruit that may seduce you—it’s like biting into a fresh wild strawberry, experiencing the burst of fruit, that lift and tingle of acid, the clarity and balance between the two. This is a wine of energy, finesse and delicious length. -  Wine & Spirits 94 Points

Effortlessly elegant and complex, with vibrant rose petal, savory smoke and raspberry accents that glide along a silky texture toward the long finish. Drink now through 2024. Wine Spectator 93 Points

Some strongly sappy aromas with wild herbs and red fruit, intermingled in upbeat, youthful and floral style. The same feel on the palate, which offers fresh, red-cherry flavors and a wealth of complexity and a juicy, fresh resolve. Try from 2020. James Suckling 93 Points

Though this multi-vineyard is blend priced below the winery's vineyard designates, it was given the same exacting care. A substantial wine, it's lush with blackberry, black cherry, lemon peel and orange blossom scents and flavors. Barrel aging has added clove and other spice notes. A stylish effort that outperforms its price. -Wine Enthusiast 92 Points

The Black Oak Pinot Noir is a glowing example of what they do best in Puglia, make great wine. Deep ruby in color with a lovely bouquet of sweet spices, even a dusting of cinnamon and nutmeg. The flavors are flowing with ripe black cherry. This medium-bodied wine with its fresh acidity will complement many meal selections.

Boich Beckstoffer Georges III Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

This historic heritage site never disappoints. Signature black cherry components are all over the nose and palate with even more dark fruit components and blackberry preserve notes than previous vintages. Fruit-driven with a touch of Rutherford dust on the palate, a curious note of sabarilla and sweet spice make the full-bodied George III Cabernet memorable and intriguing. Soft, round tannins give a hedonistic edge to this wine. With a great length of finish this wine is showing its best in the 2016 vintage.

Vintage Notes – Rain came early in the 2016 growing season providing relief to drought-stricken vines. Flowering returned a small crop, but nearly perfect summer weather helped foster the growing berries. Ideal conditions continued through harvest where fruit was picked at optimal ripeness. The 2016 vintage wines are powerful yet balanced and representative of the unique Napa terroir from which they are sourced.

Beckstoffer Vineyard Georges III – Located on the legendary Rutherford bench, this 300-acre site was once home to BV’s George de Latour Private Reserve made by renowned winemaker Andre Tchelistcheff. Planted with 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, wines from this historic vineyard have long received wide acclaim. Boich Family Cellar is proud to continue the legacy of crafting world-class wines from this esteemed site.

Rutherford AVA – One of Napa Valley’s warmer AVAs, Rutherford is home to some of the most prominent wineries and vineyards. Lying low on the valley floor, this region is composed of well-drained gravel, loam and sand, all of which contribute to the area’s distinguished “Rutherford dust” terroir. Rutherford Cabernets display great elegance, full-bodied flavor and dusty tannins.

Boich Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

Boich Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is made from 100 percent Napa Cabernet Sauvignon.

22 months in French Oak- Taransaud and Darnajou

Thick, dense and expansive, the Missouri Hopper shows dark fig and cassis preserves, dried cherry and strawberry. Clone 337 from this historic site in southeast Oakville, a touch of molasses and stick spices linger throughout. Despite its saturation and size on the palate, the flavors roll perfectly together through a long and inky finish. This wine has the ability to taste great upon release and cellar well beyond while building complexity and nuance.

Vintage Notes – The fifth consecutively exceptional year for Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2016 growing season brought early bud break and spring rain. Temperate summer conditions allowed the fruit much needed time to naturally mature on the vine. A near perfect vintage, most vineyards saw slightly lower than average yields, but this coveted crop shows tremendous quality.

Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper – One of Napa Valley’s oldest vineyards, Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper yields ripe fruit full of balance and power. Perfectly trellised vines soak up morning fog from the San Pablo Bay, while the robust foliage of the vines protect growing clusters from summer heat.

Oakville AVA – Lying along the valley floor, Napa Valley’s Oakville AVA brings the best of climate, soil and topography to wine growing. Beyond terroir, Oakville is lined with family-owned vineyards, meticulous farmers and winemakers. Fertile soils promote world-class grape growing conditions, while warm summers and dry, cool autumns are perfect for Cabernet Sauvignon.

Boich Wall Road Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Pure, powerful and polished, the Wall Road shows immense aromas of black currant, blueberry, blackberry preserves and hints of sweet dark herbs. The palate is fully developed and well-structured with firm yet ripe tannins and layers of dried red fruits and currants. There is a forest and sweet herb quality that hints at the signature terroir of this Mountain gem. The finish is long and lingering and lifts the layers of fruit on the palate perfectly.

Vintage Notes – An unseasonably warm start to 2015 brought early bud break and bloom for Napa Valley. Vines began to show fatigue as they entered their fourth year of drought, resulting in lower crop yields than years prior. Unexpected heat meant an early harvest for the valley, one of the earliest on record. Ripened fruit proved to be of tremendous quality, while Cabernets are deep and decadent in color with great balance in tannin.

Wall Road Vineyard – This three-acre gem is located at the northern tip of the Mount Veeder AVA, due west of Oakville and the To Kalon vineyard. True to the Veeder AVA, this site delivers both the power and elegance we strive to achieve in our Mountain Cabernets. The elevation, slope orientation and well-drained soils yield fully ripened small berries with concentrated flavor.

Mount Veeder AVA – Known for its acclaimed Cabernet Sauvignon, this illustrious appellation produces graceful, expressive and world-renowned wine. Limited by nature, Mount Veeder’s rugged mountain terrain, high elevation and cooling influence from the San Pablo Bay allows for a long growing season that returns low, sought after yields. This results in powerful fruit with distinct berry flavors.

Review:

"This is some very serious stuff. Aromas of tar, vanilla and cloves. But the fruit is delicious with notes of boysenberries, blackcurrants, oranges, lavender, herbs and baking spices. The palate's rich and warming but also calm and composed. Layers of blue fruit, ripe yet integrated tannins, a fine line of acidity and a long finish. The broader style remains so elegant. Drink in 2022."

"The pricey 2013 Conjuro is an impressive blend of 50% Malbec, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Merlot that felt lighter and more balanced than in previous years, with sweetness from the tannins and oak-derived flavors and aromas. It has herbal and spice notes from the Cabernet and Merlot and round, juicy tannins after 18 months in new French barriques. I wonder how this blend would be with less new oak... 3,500 bottles were filled in December 2016.- Luis Gutiérrez"

- Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (Issue #237, June 2018), 93 pts

"This year, Conjuro is 50% Malbec, grapes from Agrelo and Vista Flores, Bressias’s preferred and primary sources for this variety. Where Cabernet and Merlot are concerned, they went to the higher parts of Gualtallary to get the grip that’s clearly present here. It’s pretty impressive to see how this wine has evolved: from a heavy, very ripe red to where it is today, a red fruit focused blend, best defined as medium to light bodied, but at the same time with enormous length, which is, at the end of the day, what matters. Wines with length more than breadth. and enough acidity to brighten a meal, that’s what it’s all about."

"(14% alcohol; aged for 18 months in new Taransaud barrels): Healthy red-ruby. Complex, sexy aromas and flavors of black fruits, mocha, brown spices, tobacco leaf, licorice and flowers. Wonderfully broad and savory on entry, then ripe and sweet in the middle palate; not especially fleshy or outsized but intense and aromatic in the mouth. The very long finish features firm but well-integrated tannins and sexy spices. Classic Gualtallary energy here--and the spine to evolve gracefully for another decade. - Stephen Tanzer"

Bressy Rouge Gourt de Mautens IGP Vaucluse 2012

Blend: 50% Grenache Noir, 15% Mourvedre, 10% Carignan, 10% Counoise and 15% various: Cinsault, Vaccarèse, Syrah, Clairette Blanc and Terret Noir.

It is loaded with chocolate, black raspberries, and kirsch, intermixed with dusty, loamy soil notes, pepper, and the telltale chocolate that comes from the old vine Grenache that bakes in the sun in this high elevation appellation. This is a beauty, slightly rustic but enormously endowed.

Review:

A true blockbuster, the Grenache-dominated 2012 IGP Vaucluse comes all from clay and limestone soils around Rasteau, and spent 24-36 months in a combination of foudres and demi-muids. Loaded with notions of black cherries, black currants, crushed rocks, licorice and roasted herbs, this beauty is full-bodied, voluptuous, sexy and gorgeously textured. And while it has tons of richness, it also has notable purity, good freshness and ripe tannin that frame the finish nicely. It’s already hard to resist, but it will continue to knock your socks off for another 10-15 years.
