Leeu Passant Elandskloof Chardonnay 2015

The Leeu Passant Elandskloof Chardonnay has a nose of stone fruit and lemon biscuits. The palate has a creamy, limey, citrus character with exotic spice notes and is full but balanced by a fresh, tight finish.

Review:

The 2015 Leeu Passant Elandskloof Chardonnay is whole bunch pressed and barrel fermented in 30% new wood, inspired by some of the reduced style of Burgundy whites. It spent 12 months in barrel plus three months in tank, its first sulfur just before bottling. It has a well-defined, attractive bouquet with very slight reduction, praline and dried honey emerging with time in the glass. The palate is well balanced with a slightly waxiness, impressive weight in the mouth with a hint of sour lemon counterbalancing the controlled richness and weight on the finish. It probably needs another year in bottle. - Wine Advocate 90 Points

14% alcohol. Very linear and stony with nice acidity under pure, mineral-laced citrus fruit with some peach and mealy richness. There’s nice freshness but also good concentration and richness here. Lovely freshness and weight here with a delicious, focused personality. -Jame Goode 95 Points

Bressia Monteagrelo Chardonnay 2015

In Monteagrelo we bring the soul of each varietal, its intimate relationship with its place of origin and its deeproots in that place. The result is an incredibly intense, yet delicately harmonious wine that excites, seduces and captures.

Monteagrelo Chardonnay  is a wine of greenish-yellow color with good intensity and luminous highlights. It gives aromas typical to the variety, combined with a touch of the oak in which it was aged. On the palate it is fresh and floral, with good body and a long, elegant finish.

Buty Chardonnay Conner Lee Vineyard 2015

While this wine displays the poise, structure and minerality that have become hallmarks of our Conner Lee Vineyard Chardonnay, the warm vintage has also delivered alluring orange spice and tropical flower notes that accentuate the lovely depth and richness.

This vivid chardonnay comes from Conner Lee’s prized 1989 and 2005 ‘clone #95’ blocks—both planted with ungrafted vines in sandy-silt soils. While it displays the poise, structure and minerality that are hallmarks of Conner Lee, the warm vintage has also delivered alluring orange spice and tropical flower notes that accentuate the lovely depth and richness. On the silky palate, layers of zesty citrus mingle with chamomile, hibiscus and honeysuckle, resulting in a wine that effortlessly combines power and grace

Product Description

Rich pear, tropical pineapple and honeysuckle on the nose lead to tart red apple and pear with exceptional acidity and a luscious butterscotch finish.

The best of both worlds, this wine is barrel-fermented and aged in neutral French oak, to highlight the fruit and add complexity.

Siegel Special Reserve Carmenere 2015

Viña Siegel is a family operated winery with a well-established tradition and long history. For generations we have been dedicated to the art of crafting wines with strong identities. Our Special Reserve wines represent the union of tradition and innovation in two generations. The grapes are sourced through careful selection of our best vineyards. Their ripe and round tannins clearly express the terroir of Colchagua. Siegel Special Reserve Carmenere has been aged for 12 months in French oak barrels. It has an intense violet-red color, with aromas of black fruits, spices, dark chocolate and dried figs. The palate is balanced and juicy with velvety tannins and a long finish.

Pre-fermentative cold maceration for 5 days, with alcoholic fermentation occurring at 27-29°C for a deeper colour and better structure. Smooth pump overs happen once a day at the winemaker’s discretion. Post-fermentative maceration for 2 weeks. Then the wine is separated from its lees and malolactic fermentation ensues. Once the wine has fermented it is smoothly clarified and cold stabilisation occurs when necessary.

It pairs well with spicy foods, pasta with mushrooms and roasts

Thorn Clarke Shotfire Shiraz 2015

On release Thorn Clarke Shotfire Shiraz has a deep purple colour with a red hue. The wine has a lifted nose of clean blackberry fruit accompanied by mocha and spice. The palate displays sweet fruit characters dominated by blackberry and plum, complimented by cinnamon, clove and nutmeg characters. The wine is full bodied with natural tannin and oak maturation adding texture and complexity to the wine.

Spring rainfall was well below average with several days reaching 30°C. The growing season had even temperatures and little rainfall. Ripening was slow and steady leading to the development of good tannin structure and fruit characters.

The grapes were de-stemmed into fermenters. Ferments were pumped over twice daily to maximize color, tannin and flavor extraction. Cooling is used to ensure ferments remain in the 22-25°C range which allows maximum fruit expression in the wine. Pressing occurs approximately seven days after fermentation commences and the wine is then filled to American oak to mature (14 months in 40% new American hogsheads with the balance going into 2nd and 3rd fill barrels).

   Review:

"Youthful purple. Smoky blackberry, cherry cola and spicecake aromas show very good vivacity and clarity. Lush and appealingly sweet on the palate, offering juicy black and blue fruit preserve flavors and a hint of candied licorice. Shows impressive energy and supple tannins on the finish, which leaves juicy blueberry and peppery spice notes behind. - Josh Raynolds"
