Product Description

Altesino Brunello di Montalcino is made from 100 percent Sangiovese.

Brilliant ruby-red color, this classic Rosso offers sumptuous aromas of ripened blackberries and dark cherries. On the palate, the wine is generously well-rounded and rich with fruit-forward notes complimented by hints of leather and mesquite.

Review:

A concentrated bead of blackberries and minerals pervades the nose and palate. Medium-to full-bodied with well-integrated tannins and a balanced finish. Tight and very focused. Classic Brunello for the vintage. Best from 2023.

Winery: Altesino

In the heart of southern Tuscany, forty kilometers south of the City of Siena, far from heavy traffic routes and the main industrial areas, the landscape of Montalcino has remained unchanged and mostly wild. The area where the wines of Montalcino are produced coincides with the historical borders of the Municipality of Montalcino.

Here man has successfully created a respectful relationship with nature, protecting it over the years from illegal construction and property speculation, leaving the charm and magical appeal of an uncontaminated area unchanged over time. In 2004, UNESCO declared this unique cultural environment a World Heritage Site.

Montalcino and its wines are an inseparable combination, based on old traditions and culture, which has shaped the landscape and strongly influenced its socio-economic development. “Azienda Agricola Altesino” (winery and farm) is situated in this unique context.

Poggio Nardone Brunello di Montalcino 2017

Poggio Nardone Brunello di Montalcino is made from 100 percent Sangiovese Grosso.

The rich nose displays scents of spices combined with aromas of small red ripe fruits, blackberry and blueberry.
Well structured, determined and elegant, with round and silky tannins. Very nice finish.

Alcoholic fermentation was done in tank, maloactic fermentation in oak barrels. Wine was then aged for 3 years in French oak barrels.

Review:

A lot of pressed red flowers open the sensory scene and blend with notes of chamomile, helichrysum, wet earth and cut cedar. A slight reduction in the secondary scene that will protect the matrix from oxygenization. Full bodied, soft tannins of good workmanship and a composed finale, decidedly rich in material. Well made. Better from 2022. About Raffaele Vecchione

Biondi Santi Tenuta Greppo Annata Brunello di Montalcino 2015

Biondi Santi Tenuta Greppo Annata Brunello di Montalcino is made from 100 percent Sangiovese.

The Biondi-Santi flagship wine, the Brunello di Montalcino embodies the spirit of Tenuta Greppo and the signature style of our winemakers, forged over 150 years of history with its balanced combination of fresh elegance, depth and aristocratic personality.

ORIGIN
The Brunello was produced with our proprietary clone of Sangiovese Grosso called BBS11 (Brunello Biondi Santi 11), which was identified and selected by Biondi-Santi at Tenuta Greppo in the Seventies. For this Brunello we exclusively used grapes from the vines with between 10 and 25 years of age.
AGEING
The Brunello was aged in Slavonian oak barrels for 3 years. It benefited from a long refinement in the bottle.

Review:

The Biondi-Santi 2015 Brunello di Montalcino exudes dark, velvety fruit and concentration while maintaining the signature elegance, suppleness and lithe personalty that distinguishes the iconic Il Greppo estate. I found this new release to be quite distinctive and exquisitely beautiful, setting it apart from many of the past vintages we are most familiar with. This 2015 edition is dark, exuberant and bold, but precise, focused and sharp as well. It will live for years in your cellar, but tasted now in its infancy, the wine shows blackberry, dried cherry, plum and dark cassis. Those dark fruit tones segue to a rich presentation of tar, spice, earth, tobacco and sweet balsam herb. The bouquet offers seamless and smooth transitions. This warm and sunny growing season favored richness and phenolic weight. Wines from Biondi-Santi are made for the long haul, and the fresh acidity that characterizes this estate is the principle reason why. However, I'd argue that this wine from 2015 will evolve over the years not only thanks to the freshness but more so thanks to the important structure of this solid and profound wine.

-Wine Advocate 97+ Points

The 2015 Brunello is highly complex, with pine resin, clove, blood orange, and rose-hip. It offers a grounding richness and warmth from the vintage while maintaining transparency and lift. Structured and with a long finish, this bottle showed no sign of demise over several days. Cellar 1-5 years and enjoy over the next 20 years.

Tenute Silvio Nardi Brunello di Montalcino Poggio Doria 2015

Tenute Silvio Nardi Poggio Doria is made from 100 percent Sangiovese.

Ruby red color with garnet highlights. Ample and highly complex flavors at the nose develop then to mineral notes of graphite, fruity tones of red berries and spicy aromas of clove and vanilla. Long and balanced at the palate, smooth and persistent notes bring to the elegant end characterized by present and velvety tannins

Reviews:

An impeccably balanced wine, and a perfect partner to a big Tuscan steak (air-dried for extra softness), the Tenute Silvio Nardi 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Vigneto Poggio Doria offers rich dark fruit intensity, good concentration and vivid aromas. It shows extra power and depth with plum, blackberry and a woody red fruit tone that recalls pomegranate or cassis. Even the appearance of this wine is a tone or two darker, albeit with that pretty Sangiovese shine and gloss that radiates from inside the glass. This Brunello delivers.

-Robert Parker 96 Points

The purity of blue fruit, flowers and subtle wet earth are very impressive on the nose. Full body, firm and very silky tannins and a long and beautiful finish. Shows strength and longevity. Better after 2021.

Argiano Brunello di Montalcino 2018

Brunello is Argiano’s soul and identity: elegant, fine, and at the same time, body and long aging.

APPELLATION: Brunello di Montalcino DOCG.

GRAPES: 100% Sangiovese.

SOIL: Marl, ancient clay with high-level of limestone.

ALTITUDE: From 280 to 310 meters a.s.l.

VINEYARDS: From 55 to 12 years old.

TRAINING SYSTEM: Spurred Cordon, organic farming, small quantity of grapes per vine.

VINTAGE: The winter temperature was above average and a relatively dry spring led to early bud break. The summer was optimal, with large diurnal swings. The tramontana winds from the north during August led to an increase in concentration as the grapes matured. The end of the season was mild and pleasant.

HARVEST: Between the beginning and end of September.

Review:

A bright and fresh 2018 with cherry and floral aromas and flavors. Medium body, refined tannins and a linear finish with bright acidity. Tangy and energetic. Tight at the end. A year or two will open it, but already a beauty.

-Decanter 94 Points

Pure and noble, the 2018 Brunello Di Montalcino is compelling in its expressive layers yet remains transparent, with aromas of fresh leather, red cherry, cedar, anise, and fresh pine all intertwining. It is medium-bodied but fills out with wonderful purity in its notes of blood orange, raspberry, saline minerals, and mouthwatering acidity. It is a gorgeous wine to hold another couple of years and best after 2025.

Alcoholic fermentation with maceration of the skins (30-35 days) at a controlled temperature and spontaneous malolactic fermentation, both in truncated cone-shaped Slavonian oak vats.

AGEING:

In Slavonian oak casks of 10 to 25 hl for over 40 months; followed by ageing in bottles for at least 15 months.

NOTES:

Colour: deep ruby red, strong, lively.

Bouquet: very intense and complex, fruity and spicy, with red fruit, jam and liquorice shades; great prospects of future development.

Taste: great structure in the acid-tannin components, well supported by the soft ones; extremely persistent.

Food pairings: roast red meats, game and very aged cheeses.

Review:

Powerful, sparkling garnet red. Rich, very appealing nose with notes of ripe raspberries and fresh plums, some liquorice and fine spice notes in the background. Grippy, fine-meshed tannin on the palate, builds up in many layers, salty, good tension, very long finish in the finish.

- Falstaff 98 Points

The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva wafts up with a classic Capanna profile, rich yet elegant, with masses of crushed black cherries, sweet herbs, cloves and hints of cigar box. This is velvety yet not weighty, with a salty core of minerals and brisk acids that enliven its citrus-tinged red berries and exotic inner spice. While persistent and structured, the 2016 keeps you coming back to the glass, savory and saline in character with grippy tannins, but also a tug of residual tension that keeps the expression unexpectedly fresh. This is a tremendous Brunello Riserva in the making, and all it needs is time.

Collemattoni Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2015

Collemattoni Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is made from 100 percent Sangiovese.

Intense ruby red with brilliant burgundy reflects in color. Reminiscent of wild black fruits, vanilla and spices on the nose and dry, warm, slightly austere but velvety in the palate.

This wine comes from the oldest vineyard of Collemattoni: Fontelontano. Less than half hectare. It's one of the few Single Vineyard Brunello di Montalcino riserva.

Coming from a parcel with 15-18 year old vines planted in sandy clay and marl soils.

Harvest is 100% destemmed with a soft pressing, fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature of 28-30°C, pumping over for the first week of maceration following by skin-contact maceration for 20-25 days with rack and return technique (delestage).
Malolactic fermentation completed. The delestage and the pumping over are then spaced out along the process.
Wine is slightly filtered before bottling.

Review:

"Dried berry and cherry with flower and walnut undertones. Some stones and dry earth. Full-bodied with a chewy, intense palate, showing wonderful structure and depth. A serious 2015 Brunello. Drink after 2023."
