Hahn Family Wines Lucienne Chardonnay Lone Oak Vineyard 2018

Hahn Estate Lucienne Chardonnay Lone Oak Vineyard is made from 100 percent Chardonnay.

Reviews:

Lemon blossom, grapefruit rind, pastry flake and a hint of ash show on the nose of this single-vineyard expression from the Hahn family. It's suave and broad on the palate at first, then it chisels down to pinpoint acidity, delivering flavors of apricot, lime zest and chalk before the slightly nutty finish. Matt Kettmann

I. Brand & Family Graff Family Vineyard Melon de Bourgogne 2022

I Brand Melon de Bourgogne Chalone  is made from Melon de Bourgogne.

The Graff Family began working in Chalone in the early 60s, with Dick Graff as the driving force behind the Chalone Vineyard, building, with the support of his brothers and a gaggle of stockholders, the original 1919 planting to international fame. After selling the Chalone group and Dick’s untimely death in a plane crash, the family’s land holdings have shrunk progressively to just this 160 acre parcel, owned by Dave Graff and his children. On those 160 acres is a small 3 acre vineyard planted in 1989 to Syrah, Mourvédre and Melon de Bourgogne. The site has depleted, granitic soils. The Melon de Bourgogne in Chalone was originally thought to be Pinot Blanc. Dick Graff distributed cuttings of these vines as far as Oregon. In the 1970s, a visiting ampelographer correctly identified the vines as Melon de Bourgogne. These vines were selected from the older ‘Pinot Blanc’ planting and can legally be labeled as either (but we like accuracy).

The wine comes from a tiny parcel of 30+ year old Melon planted on depleted granitic soils. The warm days and cold nights of the Chalone AVA produce a perfect balance of concentration and acidity, which Ian Brand amplifies with a few days of skin contact. The pure aromas of light peach, pear and gardenia are slightly toasty on the nose. The palate is defined by lemon-skin and grapefruit-pith grip, with a touch of baked apple in the midpalate.

Review:

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Limited Release Cold Springs is the most distinctive of the wines in this range of limited-release Cabernets from Charles Krug. Gravel, licorice, menthol and spice all develop in a Howell Mountain Cabernet endowed with tremendous class and nuance.

Manoir du Carra Beaujolais Cru Julienas 2023
Manoir du Carra Beaujolais Cru Julienas is made from Gamay.

The 2005 vintage was the Sambardier family's first release of the Juliénas, the oldest Cru of Beaujolais, that was named for the famous Roman Emperor Julius Caesar.
The vineyards are located in the lieu-dit "En bottiere" on granite and schist soil types.

Young and dynamic winemaker Frederic Sambardier only produces 4,800 bottles or 400 cases (12/750ml) from 0.8 hectare (1.97 acre). The vines average over 50 years old.  Skin maceration during fermentation for 10-12 days. Finally, the wine has had 4 months of aging in foudre (large barrel). Egg white fined, the wine is bottled unfiltered.
Imported - 150 cases 6/750 ml

Beautiful ruby red color. Pleasing and graceful, this full-bodied Julienas displays spices and ripe red and black fruit aromas (red currant, blackberry). This well balanced wine shows soft tannins and a long lasting finish. Excellent now, it will show even better after a few years of cellaring.

This is a perfect match with game, poultries, white meats and cheeses or even by itself as an aperitif.

Product Description

Betz Family Besoleil 2011 is made from 51% Grenache, 18% Cinsault, 12% Mourvedre, 12% Counoise and 7% Syrah.

Betz Family Besoleil 2011 presents with vibrant ruby with hints of blue color, opens to an intense southern Rhone character. Black raspberry, smoke, roasted dried herbs, black pepper, and floral notes of lavender and rose petal all play their aromatic role. The Counoise adds a note of garrigue, that exotic aroma of the dried, shrubby plants of coastal Mediterranean vineyards. A silky entry leads to a supple mid palate and a structured finish, reflecting the overall cooler vintage. Flavors are ripe cherry, creamy red licorice and cola, with a spice cabinet backup. There’s vitality and weight, with a structure that dances and will certainly reward cellaring.
