The wine shows a brilliant straw color with golden reflections. Fresh and floral bouquet with a hint of pears, apricots and bananas blended with intense aromas of acacia flowers. Fresh and inviting on the palate with bright fruit and an easy drinking style with a pleasing hint of almonds in the aftertaste.
The average age of the vines is 25 years old. The vineyards' soils are made of stoney calcareous, rich in minerals and fossils that gives this wine bright aromatics and a refreshing lift on the palate. After a 12-hour skin maceration to obtain enhanced aromas, the wine is fermented in stainless steel. The finished wine is placed in stainless steel holding tanks until bottled. Aged 3-4 months in stainless steel.

Holocene Apocrypha Pinot Noir is made from 100 percent Pinot Noir.
Apocrypha Pinot Noir tends to showcase the blue and black end of the fruit spectrum, along with a brambly, floral, dried sage and thyme profile, higher acid than the Memorialis and more power.
We tend to enjoy this wine with lamb merguez sausage and saffron rice.
Review:
The outstanding 2023 ‘Apocrypha’ was aged for 9 months in 25% new French oak and saw100% whole cluster fermentation. This is lush, round and rich on the mouth with serious texture, tannin and mouthfeel. Dense red and dark fruits collide with salty minerals and volcanic stony accents on the palate. A stunning wine that is already drinking well, enjoy over the next fifteen plus years to come.

Holocene Sidereal Pinot Noir is made from 100 percent Pinot Noir.
The word sidereal means relating to the stars, particularly when measuring time or astronomical events. Which is weird for an earthly delight of a wine that makes time stand still while you attempt to decipher a vast array of aromas ranging from blackcap raspberries and cherry blossoms to wet slate and moon dust. Blackberries rule on the palate, with Assam tea, bay leaf and black pepper flavors easing along a lithe and nimble mouthfeel. Sidereal is also balance personified
This Pinot Grigio is grown at the foot of the remains of what was once the stunning villa of the della Scala family, one of the most influencial families in Verona from the early 1200's to the late 1300's. The much admired ruler of Verona, Cangrande I della Scala, summered at this villa. Cangrande I was a great warrior, diplomatic prince and an important patron of the arts. He championed the works of Dante, Patrarch and Giotto. He created beautiful architecture throughout the city in the ornate, gothic style of his time. This label is a reproduction of the design taken from a fragment of the ornate and intricate art that once covered the ceilings of the villa. In Italian, Ornato means ornate or adorned. This label celebrates the beautiful, complex taste of the Della Scala family and the Gothic art of that period.

Founded in Tortona, in the Province of Alessandria in the far-off 1914, Cantine Volpi today represents a foreground reality in the Italian wine panorama.
With the flowing of the generations, the Company was able to build, step-by-step, a distinctive role in its territory and an image of high quality for its wines, both on the Domestic and International markets. Cortese, Barbera e Dolcetto are then produced with a careful and proper vinification in the winery at Viguzzolo, center of collection and pressing of the grapes for some fifty years.
In Tortona, Volpi produces the "frizzanti" (semi-sparkling) wines and the sweet sparkling wines and also the maturation in French oak barrels or barriques is completed to ensure elegange and roundness to the wines.
Cantine Volpi established its organic portfolio in 1999. The team of agronomists works very close with the growers. They use a form of "clean" agriculture without using any pesticides and chemical substances in accordance with the rules set by the organic bodies. The main objective is to maintain an healthy and biologically active soil. They only use natural fertilizers, such as composted animal manure and encourage natural predators of insect pests. They allow plants to grow in the vineyard in order to promote biodiversity.
The vineyards' soil is not treated with weed killer.
To prevent mildew developing in the crop, they spray with sulphur and copper, two minerals which have good ability to protect the wines against powdery and downy mildew. Vineyard work such as planting, pruning and picking is done by hand.
The team of oenologists is lead by Federico Riolfo following a natural philosophy:
- no use of any sub fining agents except from bentonite that comes from chalk
- no need to add sugar
- only natural yeasts
- minimizing the use of sulfur dioxide as an antioxidant is stringently observed.
The certification of the wines is made by I.C.E.A. (the Italian institute for ethic and environmental certification), which guarantees the observance of European Community standards. I.C.E.A. is also accredited by the USDA in accordance to the National Organic Programme (NOP). Each stage of the production is certified: vineyard, vinification process, storage and bottling.
All the wines are bottled in the state of the art winery in Tortona, Piedmont, for the simple reason that they are committed to guaranteeing the highest quality. The facility in Tortona is logistically the most efficient for stocking and shipping wines that are coming from different areas. The winery benefits from a brand new fully automatic bottling line. All wines are stocked in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks.
Babylons Peak Pinotage is made from 100 percent Pinotage.
Babylon's Peak winery, situated on the highest weathered granite slopes of the Paardeberg Mountain, is privately owned by the Basson family who has passed down the tradition, passion and art of winemaking over four generations. Predominantly low-yield dryland bushvines are selected to produce these excellent wines with distinctive character.
Dark red color, with ripe plums and mocha on the nose. Dark fruit followed by spice on the palate. A well balanced wine with smooth integrated tannins.
The Pinotage is dryland bushvines, planted on the highest south-east facing granite slopes on the farm. Due to its unique terroir, this vineyard ripens slowly over a very long period. This results in very dark color, soft tannins and good flavor compounds. The baboons normally harvest their quantity first and we pick the rest.
The grapes were harvested by hand at 25,6°B.and destalked only. No crushing was done. Cold maceration was done before fermentation started in open fermenters. The grapes fermented between 24-26°C for 5-7 days, after which the wine was taken to barrels where it went through malolactic fermentation. After malolactic fermentation was completed, the wine spent 12 months in 225 liter French oak barrels until bottling.
Pairs with lamb, bobotie and braaied red meat.
Pernot Belicard Aligoté is produced from old vines planted in 1956 and 1971 by Philippe Pernot's grand father.
Wine is very aromatic, with some tropical notes with a hint of white flowers and white peach. The wine is also quite mineral, due to the Aligote grapes grown on limestone soils in the commune of Puligny Montrachet. Finish is long and balanced.
Oysters, St Jacques Cassolette, Roasted Gambas, Comté Cheese.
Bertani Valpolicella Ripasso Classico Superiore Catullo is made from 70% Corvina Veronese, 20% Corvinone, 10% Rondinella. Valpolicella Classica, Tenuta Novare Estate in Arbizzano di Negrar.
Wine of medium structure with elegant spicy notes of vanilla and chocolate accompanied by typical notes of cherry, sour cherry and white pepper. The palate offers the easy drinkability typical of Valpolicella and, at the same time, silky tannic structure and intense, prolonged aromatic persistence. The finish is fresh, soft and savory. A wine in the classic style, elegant, balanced, harmonious.
Review:
If I was forced to choose a number of wines that can steer the anachronistic Ripasso category into a brighter future, this would be among a very few. A mid-weighted, streamlined expression with just enough fruit on the bones. Think strawberries, lilacs, Asian plums, cloves and a hint of licorice. A noble, almost alpine bitterness lifts the finish. Brilliant. Drink or hold.

Ceretto Barbaresco DOCG is made from 100 percent Nebbiolo.
If we could sum this wine up in a single word, we wouldn’t hesitate to define it as “classic”. As tradition suggests, this Barbaresco is the fruit of the assembly of several parcels of land, coming from some of our most beautiful vineyards. The idea is that of naturally obtaining balance by harmonizing different expressions, often contrasting ones. The result is a liquid expression of a terroir, tempting and typical, a synopsis of one Langa, that of Barbaresco, which moves in the glass, alternating between structure and elegance.
Review:
This is a really solid, meaty and mouth-filling Barbaresco that offers vivid red fruit with floral and mineral nuances and hints of licorice and cedar. Medium- to full-bodied with compact, velvety tannins that form the backbone of the wine, showing impressive concentration and length. Drink from 2027.

Bright, brightening ruby garnet. Appealing and finely drawn nose with notes of strawberries, blood orange and sealing wax. Very juicy on the palate, fresh, precisely defined fruit, opens up with fine-meshed tannins, very tense, with a cherry finish.
