Burgundy is a region in France that is located 100 kilometers from Paris, stretching another 360 kilometers to Lyon. The tiny vineyards are dotted along the narrow valley and divided into the Chablis, Cote d'Or (divided in Côte de Nuits and Cote de Beaune), and Cote Chalonnaise, Maconnais, and Beaujolais districts. The region has many different soil types and microclimates and has been identified into 400 separate classifications. The soils are predominately clay-limestone, limestone, and marl. The vineyards cover 25,000 hectares and are divided into 99 wine appellations that are made up of 5,200 wine growers. 85% of the vineyards are no larger than 10 hectares. 180 million bottles of wine are produced annually. The Pinot Noir grape produces 90% of the wine that is grown in the region. The most common white grape grown in the region is Chardonnay. The Cote d’Or is where Burgundy's most famous and most expensive wines are found, and is split into two parts: the Cote de Nuits, which starts just south of Dijon and extends to a few kilometers south of the town of Nuits-Saint-Georges, and the Cote de Beaune, which starts at Ladoix and ends at Dezize-les-Maranges. The region is 40 kilometers long, and in some places, less than 2 kilometers wide.

A beautiful Pouilly-Fuisse from "La Marechaude" parcel that Saumaize-Michelin acquired in 2013. Planted on clay and limestone slopes and hand harvested, this Chardonnay offers fresh and elegant notes of white flowers, crisp, citrus and exotic fruits. Powerful and mineral on the palate with a fantastic balance, finesse and freshness. The exceptional terroir brings minerality and juicy flavors of stone fruits, peach and melon supported by subtle toasty notes.
It is now a Premier Cru.

Saumaize Michelin Pouilly-Fuisse Pentacrine made from 100 percent Chardonnay.
The name Pentacrine is derived from a small marine star-shaped fossil found in some soils on the Vergisson rock - the emblem of the estate. The cuvee is a blend of grapes from five different parcels of the Vergisson rock planted on scratched limestone. It is vinified in large barrels (demi-muids) in order to enhance the freshness of the wine.
Tropical and citrus fruit aromas and mineral character are followed by complex citrus and apple flavors balanced by a refreshing acidity. A deliciously pure and fresh white wine.
Saumaize Michelin Pouilly-Fuisse Ronchevats is made from 100 percent Chardonnay.
Powerful and warm wine offering quince and sweet fruit aromas. Thick and toasty. Rich and well textured.

"The 2020 Pouilly-Fuissé Les Ronchevats, which comes from Triassic clay soils, has a slightly more honeyed bouquet and as such, maybe does not quite transfer the terroir as much as the Domaine's other cuvées. The palate is actually better than the nose, quite saline and energetic, very focused with a lovely bitter edge emerging towards the finish. Maybe the aromatics will up their game in bottle? Give it a couple of years.

Trouillet Lebeau Macon Solutre Pouilly is made from 100 percent Chardonnay.
The Macon-Solutre-Pouilly is produced from the 2 hectare-parcel called "Au Rompay", which is the highest of the estate, located at the southern tip of the Mâconnais in the Mont Pouilly, across the famous Solutré Rock. The grapes are usually harvested in the very last days, bringing freshness and minerality to the wine.
The nose opens generously with sweet notes of candied and citrus fruits. The maturity and ripeness of the fruit combine with an aromatic freshness and a real delicacy in the mouth. The wine is structured, but still lively on the finish.

Verite La Joie Red is made from 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc,5% Petit Verdot, 3% Malbec.
The 2018 La Joie displays a brilliant violet core with a thin rim of bright ruby. Generous fruit-for- ward aromas of ripe black currant and black cherry are followed by earthy notes of fresh conifer, dried mushroom, black olive, dusty clay, anise and clove. The palate is rich and structured; possessing similar flavors of the nose, refined tannins, well-balanced acidity and a complex, luscious finish.
Review:
Blackberries, black mushrooms, violets, flowers, and dark tobacco. Black truffle, too. Full-bodied, yet in check and pretty. The fine tannins frame the wine perfectly. Really long and focused. Seamless. Elegance with power. This will age incredibly well, but already so gorgeous to try. 76% cabernet sauvignon, 9% merlot, 7% cabernet franc, 5% petit verdot and 3% malbec. Try after 2026, but attractive now.
