The Grade Napa Cabernet Sauvignon Winfield Vineyard 2016

The Grade Napa Cabernet Sauvignon Winfield Vineyard is made from Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.

“2016 produced wines that are very giving, round, coating and streamlined. Year after this year, this bottling aims to highlight the best attributes of the Winfield Vineyard, and also creates a wine that possesses qualities that allow it to age well in the cellar and evolve over many years.

“This wine expresses a focused balancing act of dark, rich black fruit, and a fine tannin structure, illuminated through the core with a laser-like acidity. The wine displays a deep purple-red hue with a cranberry halo. Aromas of cassis, cinnamon, citrus oil, roasted meat, and lilac swell from the glass.

“The palate is marked by a wave of jet-black brambly fruit up front, followed by an exotic spice mid-palate and a long, complex finish that lasts and lasts expressing notes of flowering jasmine, and oolong tea. The silky tannins hold everything together and will certainly allow this wine to evolve in the cellar for at least 7-10 years.”  - Thomas River Brown

Review:

Coming from the Winfield Vineyard in Calistoga, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is another brilliant wine from the hands of winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown. This deep purple-colored effort boasts tons of blueberry and jammy blackberry fruits as well a medium to full-bodied, concentrated, yet elegant style on the palate. It has the purity of fruit that’s the hallmark of the vintage, ripe, sweet tannins, and no hard edges, and is already hard to resist.

The Prisoner Wine Company Eternally Silenced Pinot Noir 2018

The Prisoner Wine Company Eternally Silenced Pinot Noir is made from 100 percent Pinot Noir.

Eternally Silenced Pinot Noir Red Wine, created by the impassioned winemakers of The Prisoner Wine Company, is a rich and elegant red blend. Opening with aromas of cranberry, dark cherry, cedar, pine needles, clove, and brown spice, this extraordinarily artful California red wine is soft and well-balanced. Crafted from Pinot Noir and Syrah/Viognier grapes sourced from vineyards in Santa Barbara, Sonoma Coast, Napa Valley, Edna Valley, and Monterey, before being aged in French oak barrels, this dark red wine bestows flavors of fresh red berry, with an ample structure and seamless tannins. For best taste, store at room temperature, but chill for 60 minutes prior to serving. Be rendered speechless with each sip of Eternally Silenced. Please enjoy our wines responsibly. © 2020 The Prisoner Wine Company, Oakville, CA

The Royal Shiraz-Cabernet 2016

The Royal Shiraz Cabernet is made from 60% Shiraz, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon
Juicy and fruity, Australian in style with blackberry, blackcurrant and spice flavors, subtle vanilla and black pepper. Smooth and well balanced, a lingering finish of berries, spice and beautifully integrated oak. Pairs well with red meat, especially classic recipes like roasted leg of lamb, grilled lamb chops and beef kebabs.

Loring Rosellas Vineyard Pinot Noir 2011

Offering up a touch more freshness and detail, the 2011 Pinot Noir Rosella’s Vineyard is also upfront and textured, with ripe black cherry, rose garden and spring flower-like nuances all flowing to a medium-bodied, elegant and textured palate. There’s not a huge amount of back-end depth but it’s gorgeous nonetheless and I love the overall focus. It should shine for 4-5 years. Drink now-2018. This was an impressive (and large) lineup of wines. Made by the brother/sister pair, Brian and Kimberly Loring, with Rachel Silkowski functioning as assistant winemaker, these efforts never lack for fruit or texture and, for the most part, reward immediate gratification. Having said that, I think these 2011s will offer a relatively broad drink window. The 2012s are more rich and voluptuous, with the purity of fruit and seamlessness of the vintage.   (8/ 2013) Wine Advocate 92 Points

Patton Valley Lorna Marie Pinot Noir 2011

SALE!

Patton Valley Lorna Marie Pinot Noir is 100 percent Pinot Noir.

Each year since 2002 we have crafted a reserve wine intended to exemplify the best the vintage has to offer.  Selected from a handful of barrels that are deemed to be the very finest in the cellar, we designate the wine “Lorna-Marie” in honor of the mothers of Monte and Sherie Pitt –two of the owners of Patton Valley Vineyard.

Our 2011 Lorna-Marie Pinot Noir appears to laugh at the cool, wet growing season that gave this wine its start.  Unlike many of its 2011 counterparts, this barrel selection has the structure and fruit of a much warmer vintage.  Leading with boysenberry, cigar-box, smoke, rose petals, and plum, the nose is as rich and concentrated as you would expect from this classic blend.  The dark aromatics in the nose are overtaken by mouthwatering, bright flavors of Bing cherry and zesty lemon.  The back of the palate is textured by bright acidity and soft tannins that push out the long and lingering finish.  Drink now or cellar for 10-12 years.

Romariz Vintage Port 2011

The winter preceding the 2011 harvest was wetter and colder than the 30-year average. Budburst occurred as usual around 19th March and warm weather and rainfall in April produced vigorous growth. At the beginning of May dry conditions set in and there was little rainfall in eastern areas of the Douro Valley until late August. However the vines were able to draw from the plentiful ground water reserves built up early in the year and bunches developed and ripened in ideal conditions. Véraison (coloring of the grapes) occurred a little earlier than usual on 15th June.
Mild weather in June and July was broken only by a heat wave in the second half of June. August was hot and dry, with perfectly timed rainfall on 21st August and 1st September rounding off an excellent ripening season and producing a well-balanced crop. Picking started in mid September in the Cima Corgo area of the Douro Valley. Fermentations were long, allowing balanced and complete extraction, and musts displayed intense color and powerful fruit character from the outset.

Deep inky purple color. Intricate nose with aromas of blackberries and logan berries, subtle hints of amber and spring blossom and delicate spice. A tight, well-formed palate with an abundance of dark berry fruit, rich chocolate and liquorice, culminating in a long finish. Firm, closely woven tannins that give the wine great structure and body. An elegant finely constituted Vintage Port which will drink beautifully now or age quietly in the cellar.

Winery: Buty Winery

The Buty Winery Estate
Pronounced "Beauty", Buty winery was founded in 2000 by owners Caleb Foster and Nina Buty, inspired by a decade of vintages from Washington and overseas. An artisan producer, Buty creates vineyard designated chardonnay, a crisp white blend and nuanced red blends—including Rediviva, Washington’s pioneering blend of syrah and cabernet sauvignon. The Rediviva of the Stones will be grown from the 2008 plantings at Rockgarden, their organic Estate vineyard in the cobblestones of Walla Walla.
Since the spring of 2001 they have worked with Californian consultant Zelma Long. Zelma’s multiple decades of worldwide winegrowing and winemaking offer a great breadth of wine and vine knowledge and a “whole business” perspective to Buty.
The philosophy of winegrowing and winemaking at Buty is one of balance, artisanship and enjoyment, as we aim to capture the essence of the grape in bottle.

The Buty Winery Vineyard
Caleb and Nina purchased 10 acres of apple orchard in Milton-Freewater in late 2006. In 2008, they organically prepared and planted Buty’s Estate, Rockgarden. The famous cobblestones section of the Walla Walla Valley appellation is located in the southeast part of the valley. In the 5% highest elevation of the cobblestones, this Grand Cru section has been the most prized farming section since the Walla Walla Valley was settled over one hundred years ago. Grand Cru is defined and set apart from its neighbors by location, history and consistently superior wines. We waited years to buy only here. Anywhere else further out in the cobblestones would have been a compromise. Developing the Estate with one wine in mind—the Rediviva of the Stones—we have densely planted clones of syrah, cabernet sauvignon, grenache, mourvèdre, marsanne and roussanne.

The Columbia Valley Appellation wines are sourced from six great estate grown vineyards. Caleb’s experience making wine from Champoux and Conner Lee Vineyards spans 16 vintages since 1992. All winegrowing stages are all maintained to Buty’s specific goals from pruning to shoot positioning, prevéraison cluster thinning, water and pest management, and the day and the time of harvest. They exclusively harvest by hand and hand berry sort on a shaker table before fermentation.
