Rich, medium to full-bodied, and beautifully textured on the palate, this is another terrific vintage for this cuvée, which remains an incredible value in the market today. It will drink nicely for 10-12 years if stored correctly."

The Mordoree Estate
This is arguably the top estate in our Portfolio. Domaine de la Mordoree (woodcock), located in the town of Tavel, in the Southern Rhone Valley, is the most consistent producer of top quality wine in my entire selection. In 1986, the brothers Christophe and Fabrice Delorme decided to dedicate themselves to their passion for wine. They started their own estate with the objective to produce the best wines in each appellation while preserving the environment
The Mordoree Vineyard
The vineyard consists of 55 hectares (135 acres), on 38 different parcels, which provide with a rich, wide range of soils and climates. The soil is a mix of clay, chalk and sand with pebble stones. The improvements at the Domaine have been incredible: new pneumatic presses, new stainless steel vats, new destemmer, new vinification and aging plant, and aging in oak barrels for the top wines. All the grapes are raised by culture raisonnée which is very close to organic viticulture (intervention in the vineyard only when necessary). The yield is reduced in the vineyard by ébourgeonnage (de budding in spring) and vendanges vertes in summer (green harvesting). Oak aging for the top wines in special barrels like “jupille” for 10 months. No expense is spared at this Domaine to achieve quality.

Coming from this brilliant estate located in Tavel, the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape La Dame Voyageuse is based on 90% Grenache with 4% each Syrah and Mourvèdre and the balance Vaccarèse and Counoise, aged 10 months in 15% new French oak and 85% used barrels. Deeper ruby-hued, with a pure, elegant perfume of ripe red and black cherries, sappy garrigue, Provençal spice, and pepper, it's medium-bodied and has a pure, layered, elegant mouthfeel, ultra-fine tannins, and a great finish. It's already impossible to resist and I see no reason to delay gratification. Drink 2025-2035.

Sourced from vines rooted in the sector of Cabrières, in the northern part of the appellation, the 2023 Chateauneuf du Pape La Dame Voyageuse is excellent, offering up aromas of rose, lavender, dark cherries, iris and lilac intertwined with fresh mint notes. Medium- to full-bodied, satiny and layered, it's fresh and racy, with good energy for a cuvée that can sometimes be very rich, concluding with a long, gently tannic finish. Vinified in equal parts concrete tanks and stainless steel, this blend of 90% Grenache Noir, 4% Syrah, 4% Mourvèdre, 1% Vaccarese and 1% Counoise was matured for 12 months in used barrels.

Lastly, and a tiny production cuvée based on 100% Grenache brought up in new barrels, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape La Plume Du Peintre reveals a saturated, almost inky purple color as well as a mammoth-sized bouquet of blackcurrants, bloody meats, lead pencil, tobacco, chocolate, and crushed stone. A monster of a wine in every way, it nevertheless has notable purity, a full-bodied, layered, seamless texture, no hard edges, and a thrilling finish that offers more and more minerality with time in the glass. You don't see wines like this often today, but this is a singular, heavenly Grenache that's going to need 4-5 years of bottle age and live for 30-40 years if stored correctly given its concentration, structure, and purity. Hats off to the team at Domaine de la Mordorée for continuing to push the envelope and making incredibly singular wines!

Lovely nose of very ripe damson fruit and coffee bean oak. Surprisingly only medium-bodied for Châteauneuf, but so intense and concentrated, really vibrant and energetic. Tannins are fine, quite discreet but integral. Acidity is low but the freshness makes it feel balanced, and there's a lovely sense of finesse and a gathered, silk-rope finish. The oak is very well judged, it adds complexity, structure and length. Absolutely lovely wine; such class and will age brilliantly, and you don't sense the alcohol. You can drink young, and it will impress, but I would start from 2027. 2,300 bottles made. Old vines from La Crau, destemmed grapes.

After the inaugural 2003 and 2005, the 2019 is the third showing of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Plume du Peintre. A single-varietal Grenache from the La Crau lieu-dit, it saw no new oak during élevage. Dark and brooding, it unwinds with explosive black fruits, crushed rocks, melted licorice and dried violets. Flamboyant to the core, the 2019 is clearly aimed at drinkers looking for power and concentration rather than elegance and delicacy. Grippy tannins provide notable structure. I recommend not touching this elixir prior to 2030. After that, it will deliver for at least a decade. Production totaled only 2,000 bottles.

Black cherries, chocolate, flowers, and spice pop in the nose. On the palate, the wine is rich, round, creamy, fat, and supple, with a smoky edge to the dark black cherries and jammy strawberries in the finish. The 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape La Reine Des Bois is a bigger, richer, more structured wine, which is normal. A blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre, and the rest equal parts Syrah and Vaccarese, its deeper ruby/purple hue is followed by a brilliant perfume of blackberries, black raspberries, ground pepper, violets, and new saddle leather. Medium to full-bodied and concentrated, with building tannins and great overall balance, it's another wine that shows the style of the vintage brilliantly. It has plenty of up-front charm, but this beauty will evolve nicely for 15-20 years.

Huge and powerful, but so fresh. This has great driving intensity, with even bigger, more structural tannins than the domaine’s other cuvée. A rampaging Châteauneuf that will take time to settle, and will always be wild. Long, vibrant and chiselled. An absolute beast. Mordorée has been massive but overripe in the past; it's still massive but with this vintage the ripeness is more controlled, and it has transformed into something extraordinary. Montes Alpha M 2019 is made from 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot.
Montes Alpha M is the result of an extremely limited production and a rigorous selection of the grapes, one by one, led by Aurelio Montes. Coming from the Colchagua Valley, it is one of the best and most awarded wines of Chile. The vineyards that give rise to Montes Alpha M are located in the Apalta zone of the Colchagua Valley. The soils are of granitic origin and are shallow in the upper, mountainous sectors. They vary in the clay content, depth, amount of organic matter, and especially the types of rocks and stones they are made up of. The soils origin can also range from fluvial to glacial, which shows the great diversity of soils in our vineyards. Some zones are influenced by the Tinguiririca River and others by mudslides and the detachment of material from high above in the mountain chain that delimits the valley.
Harvest Note
At the beginning of the season, winter in Apalta presented itself with mild temperatures and rainfall close to 13 inches, a considerable drop compared to the previous year's 20 inches. Winemakers started irrigating later in the season because of the rainy and cool spring, which allowed them to reserve water for summer. Summer was dry in the Colchagua Valley. It was warm, but not warm enough to damage the vines or grapes, and they didn't suffer any other climatic events that could have harmed the health of the grapes. Winemakers implemented controlled water-stress conditions between fruit set and veraison, limiting berry size and achieving a great skin-to-pulp ratio, which resulted in superb color and concentration, rich tannins, and remarkable aromas. The weather presented good conditions for harvesting red varieties. There was no rain in March or April, so winemakers waited for full phenolic ripeness, without the threat of disease that could have affected the quality of the wine. In short, this was not a year of detrimental weather events, so the health and quality of the grapes gave clean musts of great potential.
Tasting Note
Aromas of raspberry and strawberry with plum and ripe grapes followed by toasted notes of nutmeg and nuts.
Food Pairing
Pairs well with duck breast, lamb or pork chops, pasta with pesto, lamb masala, and chicken with mushroom sauce.

Deep nose, but really fresh at the same time. Currants, blackberries and chili-pepper chocolate with cedary and meaty undertones. This is really juicy, with a tight, tensely framed palate, underscored by lots of creamy, dusty tannins. A lengthy, refined and elegant expression of cabernet sauvignon, but a strong statement from Colchagua. Drink or hold.

Luis Canas Reserva Seleccion de la Familia is made from 85% Tempranillo and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon.
The family reserve from one of Rioja Alavesa's most enduring family-run wineries, drawn from a selection of old-vine grapes chosen for good orientation, sun exposure and poor soils that keep yields low. It is one of very few Riojas to blend Cabernet Sauvignon with Tempranillo — Bodegas Luis Canas was granted permission by the D.O.Ca. to plant the variety as an experiment in the early 1980s.
Brilliant garnet with cherry hints at the rim. A complex nose of very ripe berry fruit, smoky notes, raisin and liqueur, opening with air to cinnamon, jam and, in time, roasted and spiced aromas. The palate is full, with a good presence of tannins offset by a glycerine-like, fleshy character; long, lingering finish.
Winemaking: 72-hour cold maceration, fermentation at 26°C in sealed cement tanks under thermal control with daily pump-overs; spontaneous malolactic after devatting by gravity. Aged 20 months in 50% medium-toast American and 50% French oak, then clarified with a little natural egg white, decanted, and bottled unfiltered under the highest-quality corks.
