Nebbiolo is a dark skinned grape that is used to produce red wine It is most famours for making the rose and tar aroma of Barolo wines produced in the Piedmont region of northwestern Italy. The name of the grape is evocative of its home in the foothills of the western Alps. Nebbia is Italian for fog, which arrives in the early mornings in October. The Nebbiolo grape is harvested during this time. Producing light colored red wines, Nebbiolo grapes are known for making wines that can be quite tannic when young. As these same wines age, the characteristics tend to take on a brick-orange hue at the rim of the glass. When fully matured, the wines finally reveal other flavors and aromas such as wild herbs, violets, tar, raspberries, cherries, tobacco, prunes, and truffles. Nebbiolo wines often require years of aging in order to balance the tannins with the other characteristics. Wines from Nebbiolo grapes have large amounts of tannin and acid. The majority of wines are built for aging, in fact, some of the highest quality vintages need to age at least a decade. Some vintages can age upwards of 30 years when the bouquet becomes appealing and much more complex. Other Nebbiolo aromas include leather, dried fruit, damsons, mulberries, fresh and dried herbs, and mulberries.

Luigi Baudana Barolo Cerretta is made from 100 percent Nebbiolo.
Austere and very mineral expression of Barolo. Aromas of dark cherries and raspberries jump out vividly from the glass. Hints of iron, menthol, new leather add to the depth and intrigue of this wine. Refined and polished, Cerretta has an extra layer of tannins, important structure and a lively acidity which are nearly buried by its exquisitely lush fruit.
Review:
The 2018 Barolo Cerretta from Luigi Baudana dispays bright, deep, youthful tones. It has a fragrant nose of rose petals, delicate exotic spice, cinnamon, and sweet raspberry. On the palate, bright red fruit with warm undertones and slight celery notes and flavors add to the mix and complexity and reflect the vintage. There is a gentle, refined textured to the tannins as the wine eases across the palate with a lingering finish. Wait 2-3 years then drink to 15-20 years.

Vineyards
The very first Single Vineyard Barolo produced by the Pio Family, for the first time in 1985. Great structure, power, concentration, with a very long life. Produced in small quantities.
Vinification
In stainless steel tanks at high temperatures. Maceration for 30 days. Ageing In large oak “botti” for about 30 months; a small amount in French oak barriques for the first 12 months.
Review:
Complex on the nose, offering a blend of ripe red berries, nutty minerals, orange-peel and spice. Some savory, almost meaty notes, too. Full, compact and intense, yet there’s a graceful feel to the palate, thanks to the really fine web of tannin. Super polish and promise here. Classy. Needs some time.

J. Lohr Signature Cabernet Sauvignon was first produced to honor the 80th birthday of founder Jerry Lohr. This limited release was specially selected and blended from the exceptional 2016 vintage in Paso Robles. It is both a tribute to Jerry's pioneering efforts in the region and our red wine portfolio's ultimate expression of Cabernet Sauvignon. VINEYARDS & CELLAR Beck Vineyard, in the Creston District of Paso Robles, is a unique, high elevation site that sits at 1,700 feet above the early morning fog line. Its calcareous soils and cooling afternoon winds are perfect for growing Cabernet Sauvignon. The Cabernet from this vineyard ripens early with excellent color, purity of fruit, and phenolic maturity. Incorporation of Cabernet Franc brings freshness to the blend, while the rare Bordeaux variety, Saint Macaire, brings density and a savory character. Petit Verdot and Malbec add structure, color, and a component of bright fruit. The hand-harvested grapes were held separate at harvest and berry-sorted into six-ton open top tanks for fermentation. Maceration took place on the skins for five days, before early pressing to achieve ideal tannin extraction. Aged 19 months in 100% new French oak from coopers Nadalie and Sylvain.
Review:
The nose on this luxury-level bottling is pure and refreshing, offering aromas of black cherry, loamy soil, dried mint and caramel-laced coffee. The palate is framed by upright tannins, yet is soft enough to enjoy now, showing deep flavors of black currant, dried herb, milk chocolate and toffee. Drink 2020–2040.

This ARCADIA VINEYARD Chardonnay offers inviting aromas of honeydew melon, peach pie, baked squash, brioche, lemongrass and honeycomb. These aromas are very fragrant and layered with just a touch of oak. The wine has a bright and flavorful entrance with flavors of Kiwi fruit, brioche, and a pleasing mineral note on the finish. Enjoy this wine with grilled fish or shrimp with capers and lemons, seared scallops drizzled with lemon-infused olive oil, or roast chicken with fennel and sage.
