In 2019, Chris Pearmund worked with sixteen Virginia wineries to create a blended wine with grapes from each participating vineyard to commemorate the 400th Anniversary of Winemaking in Virginia. A portion of the wine’s proceeds were donated to museums and events that would contribute to tourism in the Commonwealth and foster a broader understanding of Virginia’s cultures and cuisines. This idea sparked another movement to celebrate through wine, and Cameo seemed a perfect way to commemorate the milestone moment in history.
Cameo Wine Collection was created to highlight women in Virginia, and the memorable events that have unfolded in the Commonwealth that lead to the movement to secure women’s right to vote. Raise a glass and toast the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment. Cameo Rosé honors 12 of Virginia’s most influential women. Each bottle has a label depicting one of the chosen women, who’s contributions range from historic, business, entertainment, politics, and wine. The story of the suffrage movement in Virginia is an important part of the collective history. A variety of cultures and eras have been curated to share recollections of the fearless, passionate ways each woman lived so that a case of wine will contain twelve different individuals to celebrate. Women like Martha Washington, Pearl Bailey, and Ella Fitzgerald.
Cameo Rosé offers aromas of raspberry, strawberry, and peach. Dry on the palate, silky tannins and minerality are balanced by strawberry and orange zest flavors.

Made from 100% Viognier, left in the sun for 2 1/2 years like the Old World Sherry's. This non-fortified aperitif.
offers roasted almonds and pecan aromas with dried apricot and butterscotch flavors. Great for sipping after a meal, or pour over ice cream in a pastry shell.
"Made in the traditional Spanish style of being "baked" in small glass jars left in the sun. It's the Vidal varietal, and tastes a lot like sherry, but isn't fortified. Brian told us that traditionally (in Spain), each year after the wine is aged, the wine-makers hold a bit back from being bottled, and it gets added to the next year's batch, and so on every year. This way, the wine gets more and more complex as long as they keep making it. Pearmund employs this technique in making the Vin de Sol. The wine works as a nice digestif or even (as Brian put it) as an "adult iced tea." I'd never tasted Vin de Sol before, so I don't have much to compare it to. But I know I'm not all about most sherries. This was less heady than your typical sherry, with a smooth aroma and taste of dried fruit, nuts and a touch of caramel. I imagine retiring to the porch after a nice dinner with friends, bringing out a tray with glasses of chilled Vin de Sol, watching the late summer sun set while telling lively stories of the rebelliousness of our youths. Never mind that I live in a tiny apartment on 15th Street and I'm not even thirty. Not a porch in sight."

The Pearmund Cellars Estate
Pearmund Cellars was founded in 1976 and purchased by Chris in 1993 (with his first vintage in 2002), the estate has had active agriculture since the mid-1700s.. It is located in the foothills of eastern Fauquier County, VA. The winery spreads over 7500-square-foot and they farm 25 acres of vines: Chardonnay, Viognier, Riesling, Late Harvest Vidal, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Ameritage.
At the estate the oldest Chardonnay vines in Virginia are planted, while the rest of the grapes are sourced from various parts of the Commonwealth. The vineyard is managed with as little intrusion as possible, and the estate operates in a largely holistic, earth-conscious manner. They produce about 7,000 cases annually with an almost equal split between red and white.

Pearmund Cellars was voted Virginia's Favorite Winery in 2007.
In 1992 the Hill-Smith family counted themselves amongst those fortunate enough to own a vineyard upon the famous Coonawarra terra rossa soil over limestone. Experimentation, innovation, minimalist intervention and small batch winemaking has resulted in The Menzies’ reputation as a wine of longevity, elegance and structure.
Situated in the heart of Coonawarra’s terra rossa strip, The Menzies Estate vineyard lies on a flat plain, approximately 70km from the coast. Given the terrain and influence of the cooling Bonney upwelling, Coonawarra is an ideal location to grow premium Cabernet Sauvignon. Our soil is red sandy loam over limestone, which is classic Cabernet Sauvignon country. The grapes for The Menzies 2017 are from vines planted in 1994 and 1996. Bunches are usually small with small berries, giving concentration via an ideal skin to juice ratio favouring the making of fullbodied reds.

Aromas of fresh rosemary, mulberry, violets and exotic spices. Take a sip and you will feel the poise and tension for which great Cabernet is renowned. A wine of great complexity with flavors of blackcurrant, bitter chocolate, and mulberries, wrapped in divine tannins and a lovely sweet, dark fruit finish. With decanting in its youth, it is enjoyable as an elegant full-bodied red wine.
Review:
The 2017 The Menzies Cabernet Sauvignon is looking good next to the 2016 tasted beside it. It is fresh and vibrant, with layers of complexing dark earth characters, with cigar box, black olive brine, cassis, bramble, milk chocolate and cracked black pepper. This is very good, and it has what I am coming to recognize as a "Yalumba red character": dried herbs, particularly oregano. The juicy splay of fruit through the finish is a highlight.

Belle Glos Eulenoch Pinot Noir is made from 100 percent Pinot Noir.
Ruby red with aromas of ripe cherry and juicy blackberry with hints of cocoa. Rich and opulent offering flavors of bakers chocolate, blackberry, and sweet pipe tobacco. Well rounded with supple, refined tannins and a mouthwatering, long finish.
Review:
Brimming with boysenberry, lavender, and black tea, this expressive, well-structured Pinot Noir made with freerun juice aged in (60% new French oak for nine months is equal parts juicy, dense, energetic, and glossy. Sweet tobacco, vanilla wafer, and pomegranate align with supple tannins. Delicious.
