Review:

"This is a lovely expression of Sangiovese with a full and generous disposition. The Poggio Nardone 2015 Brunello di Montalcino offers bright cherry, cassis, raspberry and other red berry fruits. Those fruity high notes are followed by savory tones of forest floor, candied orange peel, autumnal leaf and baking spice. The wine offers a smooth and silky mouthfeel with well-integrated tannins and a long, polished finish. This is a clean and compact interpretation of Brunello with the amped up and generous characteristics of this sunny vintage. Here is a generous Brunello worthy of a Fiorentina steak. Some 25,000 bottles comprised this release. - Monica Larner"

- Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (October 2020), 93 points

"A ripe but composed Brunello di Montalcino with tar, leather, dried brambleberries, dried tea leaves and ash. Chewy and foursquare on the full-bodied palate; the rustic tannins give this a silty, grainy quality. Decadent and powerful. Drink from 2025."

Review:

"With only 1,000 bottles produced, the 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a precious wine that might prove difficult to locate. This is a dark and syrupy expression with black fruit aromas of blackberry preserves and prune. You definitely taste the warmth and sunshine in this hot-vintage Sangiovese. The bouquet is intense and rich, but the wine is not as long-lived in terms of mouthfeel. This is a wine of immediate power and volume. - Monica Larner"

- Robert Parker's Wine Advocate (Issue #235, February 2018), 92 points

"Medium dark red. High-pitched red berry and floral aromas, plus a hint of underbrush and smoked beef adding weight. Shows good depth and spicy red fruit character in the mouth, featuring a creamy texture and flourishes of cinnamon and mocha. The finish showcases lingering red fruit and savory elements. Much deeper and more interesting than Poggio Nardone’s disappointing 2013 Brunello. - Ian D'Agata"

- Antonio Galloni's Vinous (April 2018), 91 points

"Deep cherry flavors darken into tones of tobacco and damp leaves as this robust Brunello is exposed to air. Layers of black spice and grilled meat add dimension, the flavors warmed by ample alcohol.”

Review:

"Good full red. Perfumed aromas of red cherry, kirsch, mocha and herbs on the inviting nose. Despite its size, this is graceful and impeccably built, with very precise flavors of red plum, blueberry, milk chocolate and minerals that expand and broaden on the long, seductive finish. Outstanding Brunello that offers both size and refinement. In my opinion, Collemattoni is a very underrated, off the radar Brunello estate but its wines deserve to be better known. - Ian D’Agata."

Review:

"Bright red. Perfumed red berry, strawberry, violet and cinnamon on the enticing nose. Enters juicy and perfumed, then tight and increasingly austere as the high acidity and noteworthy tannic bite keep the fresh red fruit flavors under wraps. Finishes long and clean. This will undoubtedly improve with a little bottle age and will show best with food. It’s a lovely, perfumed Brunello, but I would have liked a touch more ripe fruit; still, this steely wine is very much in the style of the year. - Ian D'Agata"

The Poggio Nardone Estate

The estate Poggio Nardone has been founded in 1996 by Tiziano and Alessandra that, having found  some manuscripts down their grandfather in which it wrote of this old place where the wine-dresser produced wine, they have tried to recreate it with their experience matured in the family estate. The estate Poggio Nardone is partially situated in the both the southwest of Montalcino as well as in the area of Montiano near the coast of the Maremma Toscana.

"A tiny estate making classically styled Brunello with consistent quality; the wines have great balance and complexity." - Anthony Dias Blue's pocket guide to wine 2006

The Poggio Nardone Vineyard

The 5 hectares of specialized vineyards in Montalcino are at an altitude of 350 meters above sea level and are surrounded by  woodlands of ilex, oak and arbutus which are characteristic of Montalcino’s hillside habitat.  The soil is predominantly composed of marl and limestone which renders this terrain particularly rich in mineral salts.

The 3 hectares in the Maremma are situated at an altitude of 220 meters above sea level on a plot of land formed primarily of sandstone and quartz reefs.  These vineyards are west facing, and are therefore well ventilated by Mediterranean sea breezes.

Poggio Nardone’s modest size is such that  the producer, with care and expertise, can thoroughly dedicate attention to every detail of the estate’s production.

Medium yellow green. Fine nuances of ripe apricot, a hint of yellow apple, delicate herbs and spices, mineral Touch, hints of candied orange zest. Juicy, elegant, fine stone fruit, touch of finesse acidity, salty minerality in the finish, remains long, already well to drink.

Review:

"Scents of buddleia, gentian, thyme and lavender immediately hint at the site in which this grew, and there is corresponding inner-mouth perfume to delightfully complement luscious apple and white peach on the satiny, palpably extract-rich palate, as do also a glowing piquancy of pits and pips and Veltliner-like savor of blond tobacco. The buoyant and profoundly protracted finish here leaves behind a soothing and intriguing carpet of flavors while not forgetting its first duty to refresh. - David Schildknecht"

Cazaux Vacqueyras Cuvee des Templiers is a  blend of 50% Syrah, 50% Grenache.
Deep color. Intense and persistent red fruits, spice and violet aromas. Intense black cherry, blackberry, blueberry and cherry flavors. Explosive fruit tannins give the sweet, creamy flavors structure and focus, bright and uplifting on the finish.

Enjoy this wine when young with grilled beef and bearnaise sauce, lamb and thyme. After 7-10 years excellent with game meats.

Review:

"Lastly, the 2015 Vacqueyras Cuvée des Templiers is made from an even split of Grenache and Syrah that was raised in concrete and stainless-steel tanks. Its ruby/plum color is followed by a medium to full-bodied, ripe, rounded effort that gives up outstanding notes of blackcurrants, thyme, leafy herbs and hints of pepper. This beauty is just more evidence for how good 2015 was for Vacqueyras."

"Pale straw color. Bright, attractive aromas and flavors of roasted lemons and kiwis, green nectarine, nougat, and grass with a soft, vibrant, spritzy, dry-yet-fruity medium body and a tingling, complex, medium-length spiced clementine and delicate herbal honey finish with silky, crunchy, fruit tannins and no oak.
