Lodi, American Viticulture Area (AVA) – The Lodi AVA is located in the northern end of the San Joaquin Valley, Central Valley California, east of the San Francisco Bay. Lodi has warm days and cool nights, similar to the Mediterranean climate. The lower temperatures that occur in Lodi result in fruit with good acidity. A wide range of soils are found in the Lodi AVA, but they generally are deep, loamy, sandy, rocky soils similar to that found in southern Rhone valley.
The Lodi appellation totals almost one half million acres, and the approximately eight hundred growers farm roughly 90,000 acres. Lodi produces more Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc, and Zinfandel than any other wine region in California, but it is probably best known for its old vine Zinfandel. The vines are often head trained giving them a classic old world appearance.
Zinfandel – The Zinfandel grape is a hearty variety that produces grapes with high sugar levels, often resulting in wines with a high alcohol content. Thought to be a relative of Primitivo that is found in southeast of Italy (the boot heel), Zinfandel can be made into a wide range of wine styles, including White Zinfandel, light or full bodied red wines, and even late harvest desert style wine. However Zinfandel, especially Old Vine Zinfandel from Lodi, is usually made into a full bodied, spicy red wine with characteristics of red fruit, raspberry, and cherry.

Rubus Zinfandel Lodi presents with ruby red in color, with red fruit, raspberry, and spice on the nose. This wine is medium in body, with notes of ripe cherry, cedar box, cinnamon, anise, black pepper, and hint of smoke on the palate. It has a long, silky finish.

Grace Town Old Vine Zinfandel Lodi is amde from 98% Old VIne Zinfandel + 2% Cabernet Sauvignon.
Ruby red in color, with red fruit, raspberry, and spice on the nose. This wine is medium in body, with notes of ripe cherry, cedar box, cinnamon, anise, black pepper, and hint of smoke on the palate. It has a long, silky finish.
Booker Vineyard Oublie Red is made from 33% Syrah, 30% Grenache, 28% Mourvèdre, 5% Tannat, 4% Petite Sirah
Oublié's blend is always Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre – the California version of a Châteauneuf du Pape. The namesake is a play on the French term for "forgotten." Rhône varietals grow beautifully on the estate and Booker believes that they are far-too-often forgotten when you think of a California wine. Deep ruby/purple in color, this hearty expression of a Paso GSM boasts confident notes of boysenberry, licorice and cedar on the nose. On the palate, the taster is rewarded with lively flavors of raspberry coulis mingled with blonde roast coffee and chocolate ganache. For lovers of Mourvèdre, this vintage of Oublié will show off. It drinks bolder than prior vintages, mostly because the Mourvèdre was so special in '19.
Oublié is traditionally one of Booker's most food-friendly wines and should pair well with most dishes.

The 2019 Oublié is a blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre, Tannat and Petite Sirah with a medium ruby-purple color. The nose offers gregarious mixed berry preserves and accents of potpourri, mint and fragrant earth. The palate offers juicy appeal and powerful fruit with loads of spice and floral perfume, bursts of freshness and firm, pleasantly rustic tannins, finishing very long.

Torello Corpinnat Special Edition Brut Reserve is made from 44% Xarel.lo, 37% Macabeo, 11% Chardonnay, 8% Parellada.
The estate soils have been formed from sediments from the Garraf Massis, deposited thousands of years ago. One of the most characteristic features of the estate’s soils is the presence of accumulations of calcium carbonate. The movement of water through the soil dissolves the carbonates and takes them to a certain depth. The continuous repetition of this process has ended up producing the accumulation of these deposits. When these become massive, after thousands of years, they bind together and form a hard stratum called a petrocalcic horizon. This hard stratum limits the availability of water to the vine and the production, but is a factor that gives the grape quality
The wine offers a straw yellow color, clean, transparent, fine, and persistent bubbles with a rosary formation. In the nose fresh pear aromas stand out along with delicious notes of pastry cream, white flowers, and candied fruits. On the palate, good balance and acidity. Powerful and flavorful with white flowers and notes of brioche, almond and great length.
Special Edition is very versatile and matches with many different kinds of dishes; pasta, pork, chicken, fish, seafood, rice, cold cuts, desserts.

The 2019 Special Edition Brut Reserva is a blend of the three traditional grapes in similar parts and was kept in bottle after re-fermenting for almost four years, which gives it some yeasty and nutty notes and a mellow palate with some four grams of sugar. It has abundant fine bubbles and a chalky finish. 42,000 bottles were produced. All the bottles carry the disgorgement date.

Trione Zinfandel Flatridge Ranch 2019 is made from Zinfandel.
From the secluded Flatridge Ranch, a ten-acre vineyard planted in 2008 in the coastal hills using a Zinfandel clone taken from a century-old Cloverdale block, and aged eighteen months in American oak. Aromatic and generous, it shows ripe blue and black fruit, sweet spice and a supple, elegant palate.

Review:
This is quite an interesting late-released zinfandel, with aromas of cured meat, spices, poached plums and coffee beans. The palate is full-bodied, structured and persistent, with a rustic edge. Not for the faint-hearted. Drink or hold.

The Rubus Concept
Rubus wines are a private label created and used by Kysela Pere et Fils, LTD in order to buy, bottle and market wine found at incredible quality/price ratio. All Rubus wines are selected by Fran Kysela MS.
It was first used for a superb batch of 1,200 cases of Amador county Zinfandel back in 1997. The wine sold in a few days and the Rubus brand was not used since then.
During a trip in California in 2009, when Fran Kysela tasted some incredible wines (available in bottle but without label), he decided to help resurrect the brand creating an outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon from Stag's Leaps district in Napa Valley (California) , followed by an excellent Chardonnay from Russian River Valley (California)
We then developed the Rubus Zinfandel from Lodi (California).
In 2011, we added a Shiraz/Viognier blend from the Barossa in Australia.
For 2012, the newest addition to the Rubus line is a Chardonnay from Colchagua Valley in Chile.
Rubus is now its own brand representing quality for the consumer and an incredible price along the way.
Rubus Meaning
The name RUBUS means "raspberry" in Latin and it is the name given to the genus of flowering plants in the rose family. For instance, here are some famous fruit from the Rubus family with their latin names:

An intense red garnet color. On the nose, aromas of red and black ripe fruit (kirsch and wild blackberry). The mouth is full, with aromas of blackcurrant liqueur and spice. Soil type LIRAC vineyard is facing Chateauneuf du Pape, opposite side of the Rhône river. As showed by the picture and following geologist George Truc, soils are almost similar in both side. They are marked by the violence wrought by the Rhone river. It consists of a layer of marine molasses of the Miocene period covered by alpine alluvium. The presence of a great number of rounded stones known as "galets" in the earth is evidence of the time when the Rhone, then a torrent, tore fragments of rock from the Alps and deposited them on the plain. LIRAC is one of the up-coming best area from the southern Rhône valley, as it delivers outstanding wines. Winemaking & ageing Traditional wine-making in stainless still vats. Hand sorted bunches, crushed and destemmed grapes. Fermentation temperature : 30°C. 18 days of vatting with pigeages.

Rubus Brut Rose is made from 60% Tempranillo, 40% Bobal.

Stunning salmon-pink hues. The nose is intense and fine, dominated by notes of red berries. On the palate, the combination of fine bubbles and delicate aromas produces a delightfully light and silky rosé.
Machine harvest. The base wine is fermented at a low temperature. The second fermentation takes place at 14°C for 2 weeks, followed by dosing.

Jean-Michel Sorbe Quincy Blanc is made from 100 percent Sauvingon Blanc.
The first nose is expressive and opens up to notes of acacia, citrus (lemon, grapefruit). Full on the palate with lovely freshness. This wine boasts nice balance and good length.
The vines are 15 to 20 years old and are located on the left bank of the Cher River, southwest of Quincy. This vineyard enjoys good exposure to the sun and overlies hillocks composed of sandy alluvial deposits and gravel dating back to the Quaternary Period. Each terroir is managed with minimal intervention in an environmentally friendly approach. Vinification: Slow pressing. Fermentation took place under controlled temperatures (18°C).The wine was aged on fine lees for a minimum of 4 months. It was filtered only once before being bottled.
Pair with crustaceans, asparagus, or goat's cheeses.
After pouring, allow the wine to breathe for a few moments in the glass before enjoying so that it may fully release all of its aromas.
Toil Oregon Pinot Noir is made from 100 percent Pinot Noir.
Dark garnet color. Seductive aromas of black tea, tobacco, and crushed tart cherry and blackberry. Faint notes of vanilla and toast accentuate dark plumb and cherry character. The palate is seamless with silky texture and long sweetness. Classic Oregon Pinot Noir from an outstanding vintage. So incredibly pleased to present the first Toil Oregon Pinot Noir that includes fruit from Toil Estate Vineyard! It is an understatement to say our estate fruit is an amazingly positive contributor to the final blend.
Toil Oregon is the Willamette Valley Pinot Noir project of the Figgins family, long known for Leonetti Cellar and FIGGINS in Walla Walla. Drawing largely on Chehalem Mountains fruit, the 2022 — the first Toil to include estate-grown fruit — reflects a classic, cool Oregon season: red-fruited, savory and energetic, with the bright acidity that marks the valley.
Review:
Violet and lavender florals come together with crushed blackberries and hints of sage as the 2022 Pinot Noir blossoms in the glass. This sweeps across the palate with ripe wild berry fruits and sweet spices, taking on a crunch of tart cranberry toward the close. Blue and purple florals resonate as the 2022 finishes with a coating of edgy tannins and a raspberry concentration, all lifted by a bump of zesty acidity.
