Product Description

The Rubus Sauvignon Blanc was produced from grapes grown in selected Waipara Valley vineyards.
The extended growing season of warm, fine days and cool nights ensured the fruit was harvested in wonderful condition mid April.

This wine shows rich gooseberry and tropical fruit aromas with an edge of complexity. The palate is lively and refreshing with a long, lingering finish.

Following harvest the fruit was gently pressed, settled and racked to fermentation. The juice was then cool fermented for 21 days and left on yeast lees contact for a further two months prior to blending, light fining, filtering and bottling. Analysis at Bottling: 3.35 pH 6.5 g/l Total Acid 12 % Alcohol 2.0 g/l Residual Sugar

The Rubus Concept
Rubus wines are a private label created and used by Kysela Pere et Fils, LTD in order to buy, bottle and market wine found at incredible quality/price ratio. All Rubus wines are selected by Fran Kysela MS.

It was first used for a superb batch of 1,200 cases of Amador county Zinfandel back in 1997.  The wine sold in a few days and the Rubus brand was not used since then.

During a trip in California in 2009, when Fran Kysela tasted some incredible wines (available in bottle but without label), he decided to help resurrect the brand creating an outstanding  Cabernet Sauvignon from Stag's Leaps district in Napa Valley (California) , followed by an excellent Chardonnay from Russian River Valley (California)

We then developed the Rubus Zinfandel from Lodi (California).

In 2011, we added a Shiraz/Viognier blend from the Barossa in Australia.

For 2012, the newest addition to the Rubus line is a Chardonnay from Colchagua Valley in Chile.

Rubus is now its own brand representing quality for the consumer and an incredible price along the way.

Rubus Meaning

Rubus strigosus – American Red Raspberry

Es Lo Que Hay Garnacha 2013

ES LO QUE HAY – It´s what there is / It is what it is / That´s how it goes. A common Spanish expression but one I like to reserve for the few old high altitude Garnacha vineyards that survive in Aragon . What you taste in the bottle is a true expression of what there is in the vineyard. It´s as simple as that.

High altitude ancient vineyards at 1000 to 1100 metres above sea level with ´pizarra´ slate and quartzite soils. Completely dry grown and unirrigated this is an inhospitable continental climate with extreme changes of temperature were mountain herbs, almonds, cherry trees and Garnacha form a breathtaking patchwork. Low annual rainfall of 200-300mm and the remarkable soils produce fine and elegant Garnacha which is punctuated by intense black fruit flavors with complex mineral, smoke and ‘garrigue’ notes.

Color: Impenetrable purple
Bouquet: Pronounced aromas of crushed violets and zarzaparrilla (also called Rough Bindweed or Common Smilax). Intense yet refined with lifted, perfumed fruit and wild mountain herbs.
Taste: Full bodied, with rounded tannins, crisp acidity and a long mineral finish.

Review

"The 2013 Es Lo Que Hay wears the subtitle Garnacha Viñas Viejas from old plots on slate soils in the zone of Alarba-Acered in Calatayud, with some Syrah thrown into the fermentation tanks. It fermented in open concrete tanks and aged in underground concrete vats with lees. The nose mixes black fruit with notes of licorice and Mediterranean herbs. This is juicy, with good density, fine tannins and very good freshness provided by the slate soils and the conditions of the year. It has a very tasty finish. This has a lot more freshness than a couple of vintages ago. - Luis Gutiérrez"

Kennedy Point Sauvignon Blanc 2017

Kennedy Point Sauvignon Blanc is made from 100 percent Sauvignon Blanc.

Kennedy Point Vineyard makes a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc that captures the essence of the regional fruit. The grapes, grown in the hot, stony soils of the Wairau, produce a wine redolent of fresh cut wild flowers and a full palate of passion fruit, gooseberry and citrus. The wine has a crisp dry finish and is perfect as an aperitif, with seafood or any light summer meal.

Hook or Crook Cellars Russian River Valley Chardonnay 2014

Our Chardonnay is grown in the prestigious Russian River Valley which is known for producing wines that marry qualities ofold world and new world Chardonnay styles. The 2014 Hook or Crook Russian River Chardonnay is a graceful balance of a buttery Chardonnay that has bright acids that keep the wine focused.

The wine offers lightly toasted oak notes that bring a toasty, buttery mouthfeel while harmoniously finishing with crisp notes of peach, asian pear, and green apple.

This homage to the Russian River Valley is a delightful wine pairing with many dishes, from swordfish or poached salmon to adventurous wine pairings like Thai curry or Pho.
