St Nikolaus-Hospital Cusanusstift is the oldest estate in the Middle Mosel region, founded in 1458 by philosopher Nikolaus von Kues, the best known ancestor of the town of Bernkastel-Kues. He became Bishop and Cardinal then founded the St Nikolaus Hospital, a social service institution that has been functioning since 1465. Over the years, this award-winning producer has received numerous medals for his wines, and is a member of the "Bernkasteler Ring". The equipment at the winery is state of the art and the winemakers are among the finest ones in Germany. The estate also operates the Vinothek, one of Europe's most beautiful tasting facilities which gathers 140 of Germany's top producers and represents a major tourist destination.
The vineyard is located along the Mosel River and measures 15 hectares (37.05 acres) total, including the following sites: Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Graacher Himmelreich, Graacher Domprobst, Bernkastler Badstube, Bernkastler Graben, Brauneberger Juffer and Braunberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr. The 40 year-old vines are planted on steep, slate soil.

Review:
"Sun-kissed yellow cherry and mango notes are juxtaposed by struck flint, salt and slate in this spry yet powerfully fruity Riesling. The midpalate is sweet and spicy yet intensely mineral, reverberating through a long, stony finish. Drinks well already but likely to improve from 2021."

All vineyards are located in the middle Mosel town of Zelting. Weingut Gessinger joined the Bernkastel Ring in 1899 and for years their wines only appeared at their September auction. Gessinger is quite small, less than 2,000 cases and all his whites are 100% Riesling planted on Devon Slate (best soil type of the area).
Philippe Milan Pommard AOC is 100% Pinot Noir
This wine has been aged in Oak (25% new Oak)
This is a little more structured and the style goes more toward the
"vin de garde", or wines meant to age. This wine needs some food, or sometime
in the decanter right now. It is well structured and reminds me of a Volnay. As
a matter of fact, the parcel is located right next to Volnay. The finish is
long and still quite juicy with chewy tannins lingering.
Charles Thomas Cotes Du Rhone Rouge is made from 50% Syrah, 40% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre
Ruby wine with overtones of red berry fruits. Round and supple with smooth aftertaste.
56 Ha grown organically since March 2009 (in conversion). Part of the vineyard is plowed with horses. Mechanical harvest. Yields: 48 hectoliters per Hectares. Average age of the vines : 30 years old.
A good all round red wine for meat courses, poultry and light cheeses. Best drunk now while fresh with good keeping up to 4 years.
