"Aromas of apple blossom, white peach, lemon curd and ripe pineapple. Hints of dried chili, too. It’s medium-to full-bodied with bright acidity and a firm, creamy texture. Flavorful and focused. Drink now." -James Suckling (February 2021), 91 pts
The Trione Winery Estate
For 35 harvests, for 35 Septembers, our family has carefully farmed and managed some of the finest grapes in Sonoma County. With painstaking devotion to the land, three generations – Henry Trione, sons Mark and Vic, and Mark’s daughter Denise – have developed a reputation for producing premium grapes. Our wines are characteristic of the appellations in which they are grown: the cool, slow-ripening flavors of the Russian River Valley and the rich, dark-berry essence of the Alexander Valley.
Over these many harvest seasons, we have owned and managed more than 700 acres of the best grapes and soils in these highly respected Sonoma County appellations. We have learned to balance and blend the gifts of nature with state-of-the-art winemaking. Our grapes have been the foundation of many award-winning wines. Now we bring our grapes to you in wines bottled under our own label, Trione Vineyards & Winery.
We are passionate about family and tradition, especially traditions that include good food and good wine. Our vineyards, our wines – and our winery – have been a labor of love, the culmination of our family’s long tradition of dedication to Sonoma County. Please share a bottle of wine from the Trione Vineyards and Winery with your family and friends, and taste our commitment to excellence. Salute!
The Trione Winery Vineyard
River Road Ranch is our jewel in the Russian River Valley Appellation. It is 115 acres total in the rolling hills of the valley at a location where the river makes a westerly turn towards the Pacific Ocean. The soils are alluvial deposits of the Russian River described as sandy clay loam over sandy loam subsoil’s. They are well-drained soils that are perfect for growing world class Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Syrah.
Our Cloverdale Ranch is situated along the western flank of the Mayacamas Mountains that run to the eastern bank of the Russian River. It is located in the upper end of the Alexander Valley Appellation, and is 180 acres in size. Our grapes for Trione Cabernet Sauvignon come from one block planted in 2001 that we call Block 21. It is a single selection of the Bordeaux clone 339. The soils at this site are described as clay loam over sand clay loam subsoil’s, with a high percentage of rounded gravel from alluvial sediments. The combination of soil and exposure are perfect for growing concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon with intense flavor and color.

Trione Pinot Noir River Road Ranch is made from 100 percent Pinot Noir.
River Road Ranch encompasses 115 acres in the heart of the Russian River Valley appellation. Located on the western bench of the Santa Rosa Plain, the vineyard thrives in well-drained soils. The region's fog-cooled nights are ideal for this varietal.
This Pinot Noir presents aromas of dark cherry, exotic spice, green tea and a slight earthiness we call forest floor. The wine is silky on the palate, beautifully balanced, with a long finish. The Pinot Noir's firm structure suggests excellent aging potential, 10-15 years.
We made this Pinot Noir in small lots, using traditional techniques —fermenting in open-top tanks and hand-plunging the caps during primary fermentation. To accentuate the outstanding fruit flavors, we added 20% whole clusters to the each fermenter. The Pinot Noir aged twelve months in French oak barrels (40% new) from coopers Meyrieux Traditional House and Remond.
Review:
"I loved the nose on the 2016 Pinot Noir River Road Ranch. This is a complex, nuanced Pinot Noir with plenty of spiced red fruits as well as subtle bay leaf, bouquet garni, spice, and new leather aromas a and flavors. With a very Côte de Beaune-like vibe, drink this medium-bodied, elegant, incredible satisfying Pinot Noir over the coming 7-8 years."

Rich aromas of baked apple, almonds and brown sugar foretell the mouth-filling flavors. A full, silky texture on the palate leads to a lingering, clean finish. This Chardonnay will age beautifully for another three to five years.
Review:
The 2016 Chardonnay River Road Ranch is redolent of honeydew melon, fuzzy peaches and spiced apples with touches of almond pastry and beeswax. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers a lot of ripe, rich fruit, with just enough freshness and a nice, long, savory finish. 997 cases produced. - Wine Advocate 90 Points
The epitome of cool climate Syrah. Intense and inviting, earthy, peaty but with concentrated fruit flavors of plums, blackberries, blueberries and black cherry all mixed together. Savory yet sweet, this wine just lingers on the palate. Paired with a rich lamb stew, smoked meats or your favorite Fall holiday meal, this wine will shine and develop beautifully for the next 5-7 years.
Winemaking: Trione Cabernet Sauvignon Block 21 2011 is a classic Bordeaux blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot and 2% each of Cabernet Franc, Petite Verdot and Malbec. The 2010 growing season was moderate, thus promoting slow ripening and full flavor development. We hand-harvested and fermented each variety separately, then moved the wines to barrel, where they aged twelve months. Once we determined our blend, we returned the wine to barrel for an additional twelve months, to 'marry' the varietals. We used tight-grained French oak barrels (45% new) from coopers Taransaud, Vicard and Bossuet.
Winemaker Notes:
Complex, rich aromas foretell rich flavors of black currants, allspice and a hint of clove. The wine is full bodied, with velvety texture, smooth tannins and an extensive finish. Beautifully balanced, this Cabernet will age for ten more years.
Alcohol: 14.25 percent by volume
Review:
This is a standout wine from the vintage, made from a selection of the Trione Cloverdale Ranch. Blended with smaller percentages of Merlot, Cab Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec, it sings in robust red and black cherry and currant, as well as more luxurious waves of chocolate and vanilla. There's a forwardness to the texture, making for a wine that's both big and happy. Wine Enthusiast 91 Points

Aged 18 Months in French oak barrels (45% new)
Our Block 21 Cabernet is a single vineyard selection from the Trione Cloverdale Ranch, located on the western flank of the Mayacamas Mountains, in the northern portion of Alexander Valley. The vines, planted in 2001 with Bordeaux clone 337, grow in clay and sandy loam soils underlain with a high percentage of gravel. Cabernet Sauvignon grown in this ideal terroir develops deep, concentrated flavors and fine, smooth tannins.
Aromatic entry filled with hints of clove, allspice and nutmeg. The impression on the palate is soft, with silky tannins and lingering hints of mocha and cedar cigar box. Also present are the fruit profiles of plum, currant, blueberries and boysenberry. The finish is long and persistent which shows the beautiful balance of tannin/acidity/oak in the structure. This wine is showing the benefit of barrel and bottle age and is drinking perfectly now and will age gracefully for the next 5-10 years.
Review:
"The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Block 21 has a medium ruby color and ripe red and black fruits on the nose accented by vanilla, tobacco, dried herbs and pencil shavings. This is a fresh style that's approachable right out of the gate. - Erin Brooks"

"The estate’s top wine is the 2016 Lirac Secret de la Grange, a 90-10 blend of Grenache and Syrah that never sees oak. This full-bodied blend is fabulously concentrated and lush, with ripe fruit flavors of raspberries and stone fruits, an intriguing hint of almond paste and a rich, long finish tinged with licorice. It should drink well for up to a decade. - Joe Czerwinski"

Deep, intense hue. Aromas of fresh black fruit a little meaty, with dried herbs smells. On the palate, the richness of the tannins harmonizes with the smoothness of the wine. The finish is long, with spices aromas, licorice. A typical wine from this specific terroir called "Les Garrigues".
