Moving to the Gigondas, the base 2020 Gigondas is a brilliant wine that will evolve for 15 years if well stored. It has lots of red and black fruits, some peppery, violet, and mineral nuances, medium to full-bodied richness, and terrific balance. It's a worthy addition to any cellar.

Chateau de Saint Cosme Gigondas Le Claux is made from 95% Grenache, 5% Syrah.
Château de Saint Cosme is the leading estate of Gigondas and produces the benchmark wines of the appellation. The property has been in the hands of the Barruol family since 1490. Louis Barruol took over from his father in 1992 making a dramatic shift to quality and converting to biodynamics in 2010.
Château de Saint Cosme Gigondas Le Claux is the estate’s oldest vineyard and sits near the entrance to the winery. “It was first planted in 1870 following phylloxera. My uncles thought it wasn’t producing enough fruit and planned to uproot it in 1914,” says Louis Barruol, but “World War I interrupted that plan.”
The 1.8-hectare Le Claux—meaning “Clos” in old French—is a field blend of predominately Grenache. Louis Barruol believes 10% of the vineyard is from the original 1870 planting. Vines are replaced by massal selection and the average vine age is 60-years. The wine is made with whole cluster fermentation from indigenous yeasts, is aged in 20% new 228-liter barrels, and bottled without fining or filtration.

Entirely crafted from Grenache Noir, some of which was planted in 1880, the 2021 Gigondas le Claux from Chateau de Saint Cosme reveals a delicate, perfumed bouquet of violet, licorice, dark berries and smoke. The 2021 Gigondas Le Claux is at eye level with the Hominis Fides from the same vintage. Powerful and refined, it bursts with intense ripe red fruits, followed by hints of blueberry and traces of cloves, cedar and licorice. This outstanding 2021 red is built around a massive tannic structure. Hence, don’t even think about opening a bottle before 2030, as it would be a terrible waste of what eventually will merge into a substantial Gigondas of pedigree and class.

The 2021 Gigondas Le Claux is elegant and refined, with medium-bodied richness and depth as well as ultra-fine tannins. It has an almost Pinot Noir-like quality in its ripe red fruits, spring flowers, camphor, and forest floor aromatics, and it has good concentration as well as length on the finish. As always, this single vineyard release is all Grenache that wasn't destemmed and was brought up in demi-muids. Unquestionably one of the top estates in the Southern Rhône (not just Gigondas), Château de Saint Cosme is run by the incredibly talented and driven Louis Barruol. There are a number of smaller cuvées, all of which are impeccably made, but clearly, the focus is on the Gigondas releases, which are not destemmed and are brought up in larger barrels. The Classic Gigondas is always roughly 60% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and the rest Mourvèdre and Cinsault, and the three single vineyards are all 100% Grenache. Readers can expect to see the current Côtes Du Rhône whites (Hominis Fides Blanc and Le Poste Blanc) released under the Gigondas appellation starting in 2023.

Extremely primary but highly promising, with a long, spice- and mineral-tinged finish shaped by youthfully firming tannins. Made with 100% whole clusters; raised in barriques, one-third of them new.

Despite the vintage's challenges, the 2021 Gigondas Hominis Fides is a remarkable wine in the making. Evoking aromas of dark cherries, crushed strawberries, violet, spices and lead pencil mingled with delicate stemmy notes, it's full-bodied, dense and concentrated, with velvety tannins framed by bright acids and a long, structured and layered texture that concludes into a long, ethereal finish. While reasonably approachable now, this wine will benefit from being tucked away for at least 5-10 years to reach its full potential.

Louis Barruol describes the microclimate of the vineyard Malleval as “very cold” which allows the grapes to retain acidity and showcase the floral aromas of the local Sérine variety. I love the interplay of richness, fine tannins and lively acidity on the generous, but not expansive palate. Very long, refined finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Le Blanc du Chateau des Landes Bordeaux Blanc is a very fruity style of Bordeaux Blanc AOC. It has great aromatic intensity with white peach and citrus aromas.
No oak for this wine. The wine was aged on the lees for a few month in stainless steel tank.
Malolactic fermentation was completed as well in the process .
Excellent as an aperitif, it also goes very well with poultry and salads. If you have a chance to have access to fresh oyters, it is a great match as well.
The first vintage of this wine was made in 2018 as Nicolas Lassagne wanted to create an easy drinking wine that will be perfect as an aperitif in the summer time or to compliment salads and seafood in the winter time.

Chateau de Mus Languedoc Red Blend Gold Label is made 70% Syrah, 20% Grenache and 10% Mourvedre.
This wine has a nice dark ruby color, with aromas of red fruits and some florals and spicy notes. The tannins are soft and juicy, giving the wine a great richness and complexity.
Chateau de Mus Languedoc Red Blend Gold Label is made from grapes coming from several parcel planted 15 years ago on gravel soil, similar to the terroir found in the Graves' region of Bordeaux.
In order to achieve perfect ripeness, harvest were conducted quite late in the season as the producer is looking for a nice concentration of aromas and sugar. Then, the vinification was traditional, meaning the fermentation was done in concrete tank followed by a long ageing process, during 6-8 months. The Syrah and the Mourvèdre were aged in Oak barrels while the Grenache was aged in stainless steel tanks. The wine is a blend of 70% Syrah, 20% Grenache and 10% Mourvèdre.
This wine will be a great companion to grilled meat, grilled vegetables and cheese.

The Julien Family has been working hard in the vineyards, in the cellars, but they also have a restoration project for the chapel and the castle located on the property. Today, Yannick and Brice are representing the 5th generation of winemakers in the Family.

Winery Philosophy: The Julien's Family is dedicated to producing modern wines using traditionnal grape varietals. In order to achieve this goal, they believe in clean and fully ripen fruit, destemming, temperature controlled vinification, as well as sustainable viticulture.
Dating back at least 800 BC, the Château de Mus represents one of the largest archaeological sites in Hérault, illustrating the prehistoric, Celtic, Roman, Greek and Etruscan ages. The estate was named after an ancient fortified place called « Murus » («city wall» in Latin), built up on a promontory over the Orb river. At MUS, a Romanesque church was built in 1070 (today its restoration is in progress) such as one of the six first castles of the area. Twice destroyed during the crusade against the Cathars in the 13th C. the former mansion was replaced in 1848 by a Renaissance-style castle, prefiguring the great times of the “wine chateaux” in Languedoc.

Pago de Carraovejas Ribera Del Duero is made from 90% Tempranillo, 6% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Merlot

The 2022 vintage was characterized by cool winter months and extremely low rainfall, reaching limits that had not been observed for years. Due to the good rainfall of the previous year, the vines had good accumulated water reserves, which allowed the vineyard to have a good phenological cycle and normal development. Budding and flowering were perfectly developed in each of the varieties worked, and a homogeneous and balanced development of the plants was achieved. The summer was excessively hot, with several episodes of heat waves, which were mitigated by drip irrigation. Veraison, which was slower than in previous years, and ripening began in early August and the berries developed very uniformly. Harvest began on September 12 and ended on September 28.
Pago de Carraovejas 2022 is the most honest reflection of the valley to which it owes its name. An environment in which the vines climb the slopes to form a unique landscape. On the surface, its tertiary soil of limestone marl, clay and sandstone outcrops force the vines to self-regulate and give their best. Plots that converge in an orography marked by its unique mesoclimate. The vineyards are distributed from the middle zones to the moors that exceed 900 meters in altitude; from the gentle undulation that descends towards the stream, to the plots that exceed 30% slope. South- and north facing slopes, each with its own personality, create the profile of the Carraovejas Valley.
The grapes for Pago de Carraovejas 2022 were harvested by hand after an initial selection of bunches in the vineyard. Subsequently, in the winery, a double selection was made: first by cluster then by berry. Gravity must production allows maximum respect for the raw material. During the fermentation process, indigenous yeasts and lactic bacteria from our own estate were used. The wine was aged in French and American oak barrels for 12 months. The entire process was marked by precision and care in every detail. For greater protection, the wine contains sulfites. Finally it was clarified with natural egg white and bottle in spring of 2024.
Review:
A concentrated, dense Ribera del Duero, but there is a lot to like if you enjoy plushness, with its lush blackberry fruit and dark chocolate. Fine-grained and full-bodied on the palate, but fresh and still pretty tense, with chalky tannins. Drink from 2025.

Pine Ridge Vineyards has farmed the Stags Leap District since 1978, and its estate Cabernet is a benchmark for the appellation's signature of plush fruit framed by silky, fine-grained tannins. The 2023 comes from the warm volcanic benchland that makes Stags Leap one of Napa's most prized Cabernet sites.
