Chateau de Mus Languedoc Red Blend Gold Label is made 70% Syrah, 20% Grenache and 10% Mourvedre.
This wine has a nice dark ruby color, with aromas of red fruits and some florals and spicy notes. The tannins are soft and juicy, giving the wine a great richness and complexity.
Chateau de Mus Languedoc Red Blend Gold Label is made from grapes coming from several parcel planted 15 years ago on gravel soil, similar to the terroir found in the Graves' region of Bordeaux.
In order to achieve perfect ripeness, harvest were conducted quite late in the season as the producer is looking for a nice concentration of aromas and sugar. Then, the vinification was traditional, meaning the fermentation was done in concrete tank followed by a long ageing process, during 6-8 months. The Syrah and the Mourvèdre were aged in Oak barrels while the Grenache was aged in stainless steel tanks. The wine is a blend of 70% Syrah, 20% Grenache and 10% Mourvèdre.
This wine will be a great companion to grilled meat, grilled vegetables and cheese.
The Chateau de Mus is located in Murviel-Les-Beziers in the Languedoc region. It is home to a gorgeous Renaissance-style castle.
The Julien Family has been working hard in the vineyards, in the cellars, but they also have a restoration project for the chapel and the castle located on the property. Today, Yannick and Brice are representing the 5th generation of winemakers in the Family.
Date Founded: 2004
Dating back at least 800 BC, the Château de Mus represents one of the largest archaeological sites in Hérault, illustrating the prehistoric, Celtic, Roman, Greek and Etruscan ages. The estate was named after an ancient fortified place called « Murus » («city wall» in Latin), built up on a promontory over the Orb river. At MUS, a Romanesque church was built in 1070 (today its restoration is in progress) such as one of the six first castles of the area. Twice destroyed during the crusade against the Cathars in the 13th C. the former mansion was replaced in 1848 by a Renaissance-style castle, prefiguring the great times of the “wine chateaux” in Languedoc.
The JULIEN'S bought the CHATEAU DE MUS in 2004

This Pinot Grigio is grown at the foot of the remains of what was once the stunning villa of the della Scala family, one of the most influencial families in Verona from the early 1200's to the late 1300's. The much admired ruler of Verona, Cangrande I della Scala, summered at this villa. Cangrande I was a great warrior, diplomatic prince and an important patron of the arts. He championed the works of Dante, Patrarch and Giotto. He created beautiful architecture throughout the city in the ornate, gothic style of his time. Sometimes, the best things come from tough experiences. Our Black Label Reserve Portteus Syrah embodies this ideal. In one of the tougher growing seasons in recent memory, I was not sure what would come of the vintage. Within 6 months after harvest, I knew I had something special with this wine. Month after month, it evolved highlighting what these almost 20 year old Syrah vines could produce. The color is an incredibly deep and glass coating purple, the nose erupts with aromas of bacon fat and a subtle bouquet of wisteria . lilac. Viscous and dense, you will get mouth-filling notes of swiss chocolate and white pepper. Sit back and savor each velvety sip with a coffee-cocoa spiced rack of lamb and chocolate cheesecake. Decant for at least an hour to release its aromatics and enjoy this Syrah easily through the next decade.
Another stunning effort is the 2012 Portteus Vineyard, which is located in the Rattlesnake Hills AVA. Exhibiting layers of smoked plums, liquid smoke and serious minerality, this full-bodied, layered and rich Syrah has notable underlying structure and tannin, with a firm, compact and focused feel. Fermented with 33% whole cluster and aged 16 months in 50% new French oak barrels, it comes from the second oldest Syrah vines planted in the state. Give it 2-3 years in the cellar and enjoy bottles through 2025. This Walla Walla estate is owned and run by Justin Wylie. He excelled with his 2011 and 2012s. -Wine Advocate Jeb Dunnuck 93 Points

Aromas of tart blueberry and lush red cherry dominate the nose, while firm tannins and full body lend structure to this inky, pigmented wine. The palate features notes of dark fruit, fresh cut wood, and dried tobacco.
