Product Description

Lancel Creek Vineyard is perched above the tiny hamlet of Occidental on the remote Sonoma Coast. This secluded, two-acre site was prepared, planted, and is still tended by Ulises Valdez. The pale, off-white Goldridge soil provides just enough nutrients and moisture for these densely planted vines to ripen a small amount of intensely aromatic and flavorful Chardonnay. The vineyard faces the Pacific Ocean, a mere five miles to the west. The combined influence of the cold Pacific and the warming afternoon sun produces a wine of incredible richness and sublime balance.

Soil types: Goldridge, fine sandy loam.
Age of the vines: 15 years

Review:

Flirting with perfection, the 2016 Chardonnay Lancel Creek Vineyard offers a touch more zip in its crushed lemon, white flowers, mint, and honeysuckle, aromas and flavors. Rich, full-bodied, and concentrated, yet just incredibly pure, this is a heavenly Chardonnay that's getting up there with the crème de la crème in the vintage. Tasting like a Grand Cru Chablis on Steroids, it's going to continue drinking beautifully for over a decade. It's a wow wine and should be sought out by readers. Winery: Ferren Wines

Ferren is a winery dedicated to tiny lots of artisanally made single-vineyard Chardonnay and Pinot noir wines from the far Sonoma Coast of California. Each of the vineyards in the portfolio is a jewel of the true Coast, has been hand picked based on its potential for producing profound, age-worth wines, and is farmed to the highest standards of sustainability and wine quality.

Date Founded: 2013

The wines are made using traditional Burgundian methods without fining or filtration, and fermentations are carried out exclusively by native flora that arrive on the grapes from the vineyards.

SILVER EAGLE VINEYARD

Silver Eagle Vineyard rests atop Stoetz Ridge, the land mass that divides the remote Sonoma Coast from the Russian River Valley. This vineyard experiences both the cooling ocean breezes of the nearby Pacific, as well as the warmth of the interior valley. The wine made from this unique confluence of climates is extraordinary: the Pinot noir a rare balance of explosive wild berry, mouth-watering acidity, and rich, polished tannins; the Chardonnay a fascinating juxtaposition of briny minerality and candied citrus.

Our brilliant vineyard manager Ulises Valdez owns this vineyard, and has built his home on this spectacular site.

Review:

"The 2017 Chardonnay Lancel Creek is powerful and resonant, yet also retains striking translucence. Lemon confit, honeysuckle, wild flowers and lightly honeyed notes all grace this exquisite Chardonnay. Even with all of its obvious texture, the Lancel Creek is translucent and light on its feet. The 2017 is rich but not overdone in any way. What a beautiful wine it is. - Antonio Galloni"

"The Silver Eagle Vineyard is owned and farmed by Ulises Valdez. The 2016 Chardonnay Silver Eagle Vineyard has a gorgeous nose of honeycomb and beeswax, crushed stone, toasted hazelnut and lime peel with a core of Golden Delicious, quince, apricot and peach. Medium to full-bodied and intensely flavorful in the mouth, it's balanced by very juicy acidity and a touch of texture, finishing very long, honeyed and layered. Yum! 110 cases produced. - Erin Brooks”-

Review:

"Buttery, yet balanced by a lithe freshness and filled with apple pastry, pear tart and quince paste flavors, loaded with spicy richness. The finish turns unctuous and creamy, showing powerful toasty accents. Drink now through 2025. 100 cases made. - KM”

Morambro Creek Chardonnay 2016
Our Vineyards
“Our family vineyard is located in the picturesque and historic Padthaway valley, 300 km south of Adelaide. Our rich, fertile terra rossa soils, environmentally friendly viticulture, low yield and exceptional fruit is how we consistently produce outstanding wines. Small parcels of the highest quality fruit are selected from our family vineyard and handcrafted to create wines with amazing depth of flavour, style and balance…” ~ David Bryson

Winemaking Notes
Fruit was harvested in the cool of the night and gently pressed. The juice was fermented in French oak barrels (35% new, 65% aged). Various components underwent: a wild ferment, malolactic fermentation and extended lees contact to give the wine further complexity and flavour. Individual parcels were selected and blended, then filtered to produce this Chardonnay without compromising the purity of the fruit in both flavour and aroma.

Tasting Notes
Pale straw in colour. Concentrated citrus and white peach fruit flavours are complimented by delicate yeast and subtle spice aromas. The palate is clean and fresh with vibrant fruit flavours, mineral characters and a good lingering finish.

Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

The 2016 vintage was stellar due to warm summer growing conditions and cool temperatures in the fall, which extended hang-time and developed complex aromatics and flavors. Winemaker Paul Golitzin describes the wine's texture as luxurious, with layer upon layer of rich and concentrated crème de cassis, blackberry and black plum fruit coating the palate with a deep, memorable impact. Nuances of violet, anise, leather, dark chocolate, black truffle and minerals can also be found in this incredibly pure wine of great power and finesse. It will drink well on release and over the next 2-3 decades.
- Paul Golitzin, Director of Winemaking

2016 marks the 38th vintage of Quilceda Creek since its founding in 1978. Since the beginning, our family has been singularly focused on the pursuit of world-class Cabernet Sauvignon.

Review:

"The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Colombia Valley is a beautiful wine and has a more classic profile than the more sexy, massive 2015. Beautiful notes of creme de cassis, lead pencil shavings, graphite, dried herbs, and loamy earth all flow to a full-bodied, incredibly pure and perfectly balanced Cabernet Sauvignon that has no hard edges, a deep, concentrated mid-palate, good acidity, and a great, great finish. It reminds me of the 2002 with its uber classic, balanced yet broad and powerful style."

Paul Golitzin, Director of Winemaking, comments:
The 2014 Quilceda Creek "CVR" Columbia Valley Red Wine is a Bordeaux-styled wine filled with satisfying layers of black and red fruits, smoke, spice and minerals. The "CVR" is an exciting preview into the 2014's which are historic wines in the making. This blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec was aged 20 months in 100% French oak. Approachable now, this wine will best be enjoyed over the next 15 years.

Review:

"The entry-level 2016 Columbia Valley CVR is a beauty and well worth purchasing, particularly as it drinks well right out of the gate where the top cuvee benefit from 2-4 years of bottle age. Full-bodied, ripe, and sexy, with terrific notes of kirsch, black cherry liqueur, lead pencil shavings, and graphite, it has plenty of tannins as well as terrific balance and elegance."
